37. Doll
Here I was standing on the feminine aisle. I’d visited this aisle at least once a month in search of pads, but that wasn’t why I was standing here today. The last few weeks, I had been feeling like complete shit. According to Flo, my period was late by three weeks. I had been praying that it was gon’ come up, but it never showed. As much as I didn’t want to be standing here right now, I had to get a pregnancy test to confirm what I already knew. I was pregnant.
Pregnant by a man that didn’t know the first thing ’bout being in a relationship. A man that I didn’t even know if he wanted children.
I grabbed the Clear Blue test off the shelf and made my way to the self checkout at Walmart. I didn’t want to go to a cashier ’cause I didn’t want ’em all in my business. I know I was a grown ass woman, but it was just some ’bout going in a store and buying a pregnancy test. It was like I was putting myself on blast for fucking. Shit had me feeling as if someone was gon’ yell, “Look, she been fucking!” It was stupid, but that’s the thought that be running through my mind.
After checking out, I left out the store and crossed the parking lot to my car. I sped to the house to pee on that stick. When I pulled up at the apartment, I sat in the car and called Scar. He didn’t answer the phone. I thought ’bout leaving him a voicemail but didn’t want to alarm him.
Getting out the car, I went into the apartment. I went straight to the bathroom and peed on the stick. I placed it onto the counter and sat there on the toilet for the entire three minutes. Soon as I picked the stick up, it read positive .
Grabbing my phone, I dialed Stoney’s number to see if she knew if Scar was at the hotel before I made the trip to his house to deliver him the news. Her phone rang straight out to the voicemail. I sat there for another five minutes staring at the test, waiting to see if Stoney was gon’ call back. When I never received a call, I got up and went by the hotel myself to see if he was there.
I grabbed my work keys and went into the building, heading straight to the elevator. I took it up to his penthouse suite and stepped off. My heart dropped to my feet when I saw him standing there with Chante. That bitch had been nowhere to be found ever since we came back from the resort. I thought he was done dealing with her ass, but I guess not. She dropped down to one knee and opened a small box.
“Scar, will you marry me?”
I didn’t even wait ’round to find out what his answer was. I hopped back on the elevator. He locked eyes with me as the door shut.
To be continued.
