36~ The small family

ADHYAY

Everything feels so surreal these days. Akriti confessed her love for me, her treating Amayra nicely and our marriage.

In just six days we will tie the knots of marriage together, and shall claim each other as lawfully wedded husband and wife.

It is just like a dream come true! I have loved Akriti for as long as I can remember and now us getting married is dreamy.

I am glad I never gave up on my love for her.

The circumstances in which we are getting married are not good but our undying love for each other has the power to overcome all the problems that come in our way. If Akriti is with me I would leave everything else. I don't care about anything as long as I get to see her smile everyday.

It is just a matter of six days and then I will get to see and pamper her with love every day. Akriti shall never feel alone, I will be present to support her at every step of life. I will strive to be the man she deserves and a husband who loves his wife unconditionally.

With a smile I buttoned up my shirt and checked my appearance in the mirror. Complying to Akriti's wish of meeting Amayra today again, we are going to the orphanage. With what Akriti told me, I can already conclude that she will be the more loved parent among us.

Stuffing my phone inside my pocket, I grabbed my car keys.

"Mom I am going", I announced as I descended downstairs. My mother yelled from the kitchen, "How many times I have said not to use the word going!"

I rolled my eyes and muttered a quick sorry before going out of my home. It is a matter of a few days and then it will be Akriti's home too. My parents are so eager to welcome her in the house, one of the reasons is to maybe mock me in front of her or reveal my little stalking events to her.

Adrija, the troublemaker of my life, of course had to tell my parents about how I once followed Akriti to her college and ensured she had reached her hostel safely.

Even though I didn't do anything wrong, I still feel a bit embarrassed about what I did back then.

That day I had no intention to follow her but I did because Adrija had told me how Akriti mentioned to her that a boy from her college was after her.

But whatever it may be, I am happy that everything is falling back into place.

Just one thing remains and it is the most important one, her mother's surgery.

It has to be successful or else I will lose Akriti even after having her.

I have known both of them since I was six and I know how much Akriti loves her mother.

She won't be able to live without her and I without my Akriti.

I do not want Akriti to again slip into her sad life.

She has become vibrant after so long, she has started to smile, share her life with me and tell me her aspirations and it will hurt seeing her broken.

Akriti deserves so much happiness and colours in her life.

My only wish for her is that she becomes so famous as a person and as a writer because she deserves every bit of it.

She didn't have an easy life. Living without a father's hand on your head is full of troubles.

And the worst thing is that she had a father, but her father betrayed her.

I can't even imagine how heartbroken her mother would have been and what was Akriti's fault in it?

How could he leave a newborn alone? Didn't he feel bad?

He didn't and that is the reason why he married another woman and had a son with her.

I am grateful that my dad isn't like that.

He always wanted to have a daughter and unfortunately his first child was a son.

But we were blessed by the twins after five years.

My dad loves Hrishika more than he loves me and Hrishit.

On the other hand, look at Mr. Chaudhary who threw his daughter as soon as she was born.

It's ironic how opposite two men can be.

Shaking away my thoughts, I opened my car and drove to Akriti's home.

If I get lucky today, I won't have to see that tissue paper.

I don't know why he is so obsessed with my Akriti that he is always there with her whenever I go to meet her!

Day before yesterday when my mom and I went to present Akriti and her mother the gifts according to the ritual, Tushar was hanging out on the balcony trying to have a look of Akriti.Even my mother noticed that and found it awkward.

I took the lift and rang her apartment's bell. After a few seconds, the door was opened revealing my beautiful Akriti who smiled gleefully at me.

"Hey", I whispered as I checked her outfit. She manages to look beautiful in everything and even this plain blue jeans and maroon turtleneck sweater. Her hair was left open, hiding her small shoulders and she had kohl rubbed beneath her eyes, which only lured me to grab and kiss her.

"Hi, I was waiting for you. Come inside", she softly said and held my hand, guiding me inside her apartment. I smiled at her mother who was watching television, sitting on the sofa and I touched her feet. She patted my head with a glamorous smile.

Akriti handed me a glass of water which I took gladly from her soft hands.

Our fingers brushed giving birth to sparks.

Unwantedly, I broke the contact and gulped the water in one go, not breaking eye contact with her.

She gulped as her cheeks turned brighter making her look more alluring.

I love when she blushes because of me, I love the fact that I am the only man who has made her feel like that and I love that I saved myself for only her.

"Mumma I will return in an hour, if you need something, call me okay?

" She softly explained to her mother who nodded with a small laugh.

That's the beauty of their mother daughter relationship.

All these years, her mother took care of her and now Akriti is taking care of her mother like she did years back.

Together we went to the parking lot hands in hands, grinning at each other.

I opened my car's door for her and helped her settle in when she muttered a shy thankyou.

Her rosy cheeks are the best thing I saw today.

I never imagined that one day I will have to witness a shy Akriti who is usually so confident and bold.

But again, that is what I love about her.

"I am so excited to meet her, she's so cute and soft.

I just want to keep her close to me and give her so much love and kisses", Akriti chirped making me laugh at her excitement.

Just like I said, the cold Aadhya is long gone and now the Akriti I have is a sweet and cute soul who loves Amayra a lot.

"There's no one who could do that to me", I stated as a matter of fact and Akriti instantly muttered, "I can if you want to".

Hear rushed my cheeks as we both took in what she said. Bewildered, I snapped my neck to have a look of her while she, embarrassed by her words, peeked out of the window, trying to avoid my gaze.

"You can?", I said, deciding to tease her a bit more. She scurried away and glanced a shy look at me, her cheeks dark red which made her look like a tomato.

"Of course Adhyay, isn't what husband and wives do?", she said after a moment of pin drop silence. I was shocked with the sudden change in confidence and carefully looked at her. Her lips curled into a slight smirk.

"I can give you a kiss if you want to", she continued, making my jaw drop. What the hell did she just say? I roughly applied the brakes of my car, stopping at the corner of the road so as to not disrupt the traffic.

"I don't think you will be able to do that", I boasted even though my insides were shaking with the thought of her lips on my cheeks or on my lips. She really said that, didn't she?

She smiled and leaned towards me slowly and steadily. She was so slow that even a snail would get embarrassed seeing her actions. When she was just a few inches away from me, my heart pulsated at a faster rate as heat crawled up to my ears. She is doing it, she is going to kiss me!

I closed my eyes, feeling her warm breath fanning over her neck when she pulled away. Feeling no advancements from her side, I opened my eyes and found her giggling.

"Aww you are so cute Adhyay! Look at your red ears, aww", she cooed and pulled my cheeks infuriating me. I slapped her hands away and angrily started the engine of my car.

I really thought she was going to kiss me but this woman was teasing me! I will make sure she gets the same thing she did with me. She will crave for my touch but I will never lay a finger on her until she apologises.

"Are you", she started and poked my shoulder with her index finger, "angry with me Adhyay?"

I snorted and decided to ignore her but all of it flew out of the window as I heard her sweet laughs filling in my car. My lips unwantedly curled into a smile as her laughs echoed inside.

"Aww Adhyay", she cooed, making me grumble in response. I hate her for this.

After I had parked my car at a perfect place, we made our way inside the orphanage along with the chocolates and different things we had bought for the kids yesterday. Akriti loves these kids as much as I do and it is visible on her beautiful face.

"ADHI! AKI!"Amayra's toothy voice made us both chuckle as she ran towards her, the other kids following her. I still can't decode how she is always the first one to know my presence.

Giggling, Akriti took her in her arms and kissed her cheeks, making her laugh loudly, Amayra sloppily kissed Akriti's cheeks and wrapped her arms around Akriti's neck, not wanting to go.

"People have forgotten me", I stated with a false sad tone as I witnessed Amayra indulging Akriti in her cute talks. Both of them looked at each other for a second and then bursted into loud laughter.

"Why are you jealous Adhyay?" Akriti teasingly asked kissing Amayra once again. Amayra bobbled her head up and down and hid her tiny face in Akriti's neck.

"Amayra, won't you come to your Adhi?", I coed and tried to take her in my arms but she shook her head and grasped Akriti more tightly. Akriti laughed at my futile attempts, teasing me.

"I no talk to you", Amayra angrily stated and hugged Akriti tighter, not wanting to part from her. I pouted and said, "I am crying then Amayra".

She looked up at me and then at Akriti who let her down with a smile. Amayra tucked my pants and mumbled, "no cry pwease". Her eyes were teary which made me troubled. I shot a confused glance at Akriti who shrugged her shoulders.

I picked her up and said, "I am not crying baby, but why are you crying?"

She sniffed and said, "y-you don't lobe mee".

Wiping her tears with my palms, I kissed her soft cheeks and said, "Who said that? I love Amayra more than anyone in this world."

She looked up with eyes which screamed that she didn't believe me and softly asked, "mowe than Aki?"

I looked at Akriti with a bewildered expression. She only smiled and actioned me to say yes. I scrunched my eyebrows but she blinked her eyes to say that it was okay to say it.

"Amayra I love you baby and I love Akriti too. How can I compare the two?" I softly asked and Amayra shook her head.

"Okay tell me, do you love your Rabby more or Taffy?", I asked, taking reference of her favourite soft toys. She cocked her head upwards as if trying to think about the answer and the said, "Bowth"

I smiled in victory and explained, " Just like that I love you both"

She nodded and hugged me, wrapping her soft arms around me. She looked up at both of us and said, "I lobe you both"

Akriti and I smiled at each, celebrating the joy of our newfound small family, our eyes promising that we will do anything to protect each other and support our daughter at every step of life. We might have not given birth to her but that doesn't make her any less. She is ours, she always was.

Hey hey hey!
