Epilogue
FLYNN
I ran my hands through my hair, annoyed once again that here I was, stressed out about who could possibly be at my door.
It wasn’t as if this were new. It was just different.
Or perhaps, something that would never become routine.
It couldn’t. If it did, it would destroy so fucking much.
And well, probably piss off more than a few people in my family.
And I was Flynn Cage, I did not piss off my family.
If anything, I was the mediator. Much like James, I was the one who made sure my family didn’t implode.
And we sure as hell had gotten close more than a few times.
I let out a sigh as my phone buzzed, and I looked at the screen.
L:
I’m here.
I slid my phone into my back pocket and went to the door, trying to act casual. It wasn’t as if she could see me through the mahogany door, but with the way that I swore she could see through everything other than the facade I tried to keep on, maybe she could.
I opened the door and stared at the woman standing underneath my porch light, her hair tucked under a knit cap, glasses perched on her nose, and her eyes wide.
“You’re late.”
She rolled those gorgeous gray eyes of hers and pushed past me.
“There was traffic. And I’m not that late. If I were going to be, I would have texted you. Because I like to be on time, and I don’t leave people waiting for hours by forgetting to mention that they weren’t coming.”
Guilt stabbed at me, and I closed the door behind us a little harder than I’d meant to.
“I didn’t ghost you.”
She turned and stared at me. “Yes. You did.”
“Our plane literally malfunctioned, and we couldn’t get into the air.
I tried to call you, to text you, even tried to email you that I wasn’t going to be here on time, maybe not even for the entire evening, but I couldn’t get ahold of you.
I’ve apologized multiple times, but I didn’t purposely stand you up. ”
She pulled off her jacket, and laid it on the end of the couch, before toeing off her shoes.
I was already barefoot, in black joggers and a white tee, as I’d quickly showered after work and hadn’t bothered dressing for dinner.
She set her purse by her coat, then turned to me.
I shook my head and moved forward without saying a word. When she tugged on the bottom of my shirt, I helped her slide it over my head, then undid the buttons of hers.
“How much time do we have left?”
“Less than an hour.”
“I wasn’t late.”
“I could have already made you come by now if you had been on time.”
“Jerk.” She slid her hand down and cupped me over my sweats. I groaned, leaning into her touch.
“Wicked.”
“I thought you liked it when I was wicked.”
“Why don’t you get on your knees and show me how apologetic you are for being late.”
I was only teasing, not expecting her to actually do it, so when she slid to her knees and pulled down my joggers, I groaned.
My cock sprang out, and she caught it at the base, squeezing slightly.
“Luna. You don’t have to do this.”
“I want to. I never get to taste you.” And then her mouth was on me, licking at the slit and causing me to nearly come right then and there.
Her shirt was open, her lace covered breasts begging for my hands, so I leaned over slightly to cup her, even as she hollowed her cheeks and continued to suck me down.
“You’re so damn good at that,” I growled.
She pulled back, letting me go with a gasp. “Well, I know you like licking pussy, so I figured I would return the favor.”
She winked as she said it, causing me to grin as I slid my thumb over her plump lips. She opened for me, and I pushed my thumb into her mouth, watching her suck it, just as she had been sucking my cock a few moments ago.
My twin brother’s wife’s twin sister did not do dirty talk. She didn’t curse often, and she looked like a prim and proper chemistry professor.
And yet, here she was, on her knees, sucking my cock again.
She bobbed her head, and I tangled my fingers in her hair, tugging slightly because I knew that’s how she liked it.
I shouldn’t know exactly how she liked that edge of pain. Just as she shouldn’t know how to cup my balls with one hand and move her other hand around to play with my taint. We were learning each other far too quickly, and that was a problem. Because what we were doing right now? Beyond wrong.
There were boundaries when it came to who you could fuck, and the twin sister of your sister-in-law who happened to be married to your twin brother, was on the list of never fucking.
And here I was, pulling her back because I was ready to come, then pulling her into my arms.
“I need to fuck you,” I whispered against her lips.
“Then do so.”
I crushed my mouth to hers as I slid my hands under the soft linen of her pants, letting my thumb and fingers play against her wet slit. She gasped into my mouth, her hand gripping my cock as she jerked me off.
We were quick, and fast, stripping one another as we practically fell onto the couch, our hands roaming, our touches frantic.
I reached for the condom that I had left in my pocket and sheathed myself before we made a mistake. Then Luna was on her back, her breasts full, her pale nipples tight, and I swallowed hard.
“Are you sure about this?”
“Never. But please.”
And with a nod, I grabbed the back of her thigh, pushed her leg up so her knee was at her shoulder, and positioned myself at her entrance.
Her pussy was plump, swollen for me, and I wanted to lean down and taste her, but we didn’t have time. We never had time.
This was so fucking wrong.
Luna’s gaze darkened as she reached forward and brushed her fingers along the scar on my leg. I swallowed hard and told myself to ignore that.
The scar didn’t hurt anymore, and neither one of us needed to think about that moment. So I arched my hips, filling her in one stroke, thrusting hard and fast, going balls deep inside that sweet cunt of hers.
She gasped into my mouth, and I smiled against her. It wasn’t sweet, it wasn’t gentle. Because that wasn’t what we were to each other.
This was a means to an end. A tease and a taste that had gone on far too long.
I didn’t know what this craving meant.
This would be the final time. We were just two people who needed to scratch an itch, and soon we would find people that wouldn’t be a problem. Where the fallout of whatever the fuck this was wouldn’t break our families.
She arched into me, her breasts pressing against my chest, and I leaned down and took one nipple into my mouth.
“Flynn.”
My name on her lips nearly sent me to the edge, but I shook my head and slid one hand between us, flicking my fingers over her clit. She came then, hard and fast as her body shivered in my hold, her cunt squeezing my cock.
I moved faster, my balls tightening, and then I was coming, burying my face into her neck, afraid to look into her eyes and see what both of us tried to forget.
We were not for each other. And to think so would break one another.
And as I finally came down from my orgasm, my cock twitching as I filled the condom, both of us fought for breath.
She slid her hand up and played with the barbells in my nipples, smiling against my cheekbone.
“You always surprise me with this,” she teased.
I let out a rough chuckle, knowing my weight was probably too much for her, and yet I wasn’t moving.
“I do my best.” I kissed her neck, knowing it was far too intimate for either one of us, and pulled back.
“I need to take care of the condom. And then we need to go.”
She nodded, her face pale. “I took a ride-share here. My car’s in the shop.”
I nodded, having known this already. “I’ll take you. It won’t be suspicious.”
I pulled out of her, and she whimpered. I looked down at her pussy, at how warm and soft and swollen she was, and slid my hand over her, cupping her sweetness.
“Did I hurt you?”
She smiled, though it didn’t reach her eyes. “No. You’re just really fucking big. So it takes me a moment to get used to you not being there anymore.”
I wanted to take that as a compliment, but I was afraid I’d hurt her. So I took her lips with mine, a gentle kiss that should have meant nothing but still scared me.
“I’ll be right back.”
“I need to get dressed anyway.”
We scrambled off one another, that awkwardness settling in.
We didn’t talk about this, or what it could mean, or what it should mean.
Luna Blair was not for me.
Nor could there be anything that came from this.
I couldn’t help but admire the roses and thorns tattooed between her breasts and cupping them, just like I had cupped them earlier with my hands. And when she turned, I found myself wanting to lean down and lick up her spine, over the vines that covered her skin.
She was one of the most striking people I’d ever met in my life, and I knew we needed to stop this.
Because nobody in our family knew that we did this. Or when it had started. Or when it needed to end.
This was a mistake, and we both knew it.
By the time we were dressed and sitting in my car, Luna looked as if she had just gotten off work and didn’t have a care in the world.
She was fiery, and all magic, and a fucking amazing person.
She annoyed me to hell sometimes, but I figured she did that on purpose.
Or maybe I just needed her to.
“Thank you for the ride.”
I smirked.
“Excuse me, but you didn’t let me be on top this time, so I don’t think you can actually let your mind go that way.”
“I’m sorry that you didn’t get what you wanted.”
“I don’t think getting what each other wants is what this is,” Luna said, before she met my gaze, and turned away.
I cleared my throat and started the car, and we awkwardly made our way to my brother’s house for a family dinner.
Luna didn’t attend them often, but Scarlett was in town and wanted to see her sister.
So we would go and sit with the Cages, and I would pretend I didn’t know how she tasted. I would pretend I didn’t want her.
“How was work today?” she asked, the awkwardness settling in.
“We didn’t buy another company today, so that was something.”
“The Cages are taking over the world, and it’s a little scary.”
“So says the woman who probably knows how to make a very big bomb.”
“There’s no probably about it, but we don’t talk about that sort of thing.”
I looked over as she winked, and my lips quirked into a smile.
“It’s good to know not to piss you off.”
“You live and breathe to piss me off, Flynn Cage. But that’s okay.”
My hands tightened on the steering wheel, and I forced myself to relax. This was just us teasing. Just what we did.
“Hudson and Scarlett are going to be in town for a little while.”
“I know. It’ll be good to see my sister. I don’t get to make it up to Cage Lake often.”
“I don’t that much anymore either, not with Hudson taking over my job. Isabella too.”
I had been the one who took care of the businesses in Cage Lake since my father had done his best to destroy them. But now that Isabella and Hudson lived there full-time, I wasn’t needed.
I tried not to think about what that meant.
“Anyway, Scarlett wants to see me a lot, and we’re going to do a bunch of sister things. Mom’s finally coming down too.”
I looked over at her, surprised. “Really?”
Mrs. Blair was an agoraphobic, though she had been getting better ever since the shooting that had changed all of our lives. However, I wasn’t sure if she ever came down to Denver.
“It’s a big thing. And I’m glad. And well, I think Scarlett also wants to set me up with a friend.”
My throat tightened, and I nodded. “Oh?”
“She knows somebody that Hudson knows as well. And I don’t know. Maybe I should say yes.”
There was a discomfort in her tone, or maybe I just wanted to hear it.
Nothing good could come from what Luna and I were doing. I knew this.
We weren’t exclusive, and hell, we weren’t even promising each other another night.
This would be good. I knew that. And apparently she did too.
Then why did it feel like I was being stabbed?
“If Scarlett likes him, I’m sure he’s a good guy. Have fun on your date.”
“Oh.” Silence. “I guess I will.”
“I’m heading out with Theo and Luke in a couple of days, since The Teal Door is having that singles’ night. I don’t know exactly why I’m going, but I figured I’d support my brother and his best friend. You know?”
“You’re right. You should go do singles’ night. I’m going to go on this date, and maybe I’ll find that perfect person. Thank you for tonight, Flynn, but we both knew it was going to have to end sometime, right?”
I couldn’t look at her, because I heard the hurt in her words. Or was it anger? I couldn’t fucking tell anymore. “A clean break, you know?”
“Sure. Makes sense.” Her eyes widened then, and I turned back to the road, unable to look at her face any longer.
Headlights flashed and the car on the other side of the road had veered towards us.
“Flynn!”
I turned the wheel hard, but it was too late. Metal crashed against metal, and the sound of screeching tires filled the air as burnt rubber and oil and whatever the hell else filled my nostrils.
The SUV flipped once, twice, maybe more, I couldn’t tell. I reached out for Luna, trying to stop whatever the hell was happening, but it was a lost cause.
Luna screamed, and as my hand finally grasped hers, there was nothing.
My eyes cracked open as pain radiated through me, and I looked over to see Luna hanging from her seat, the seatbelt keeping her in place. The airbags had deployed and blood covered them.
I gasped in air, trying to catch my breath. “Luna. Luna!”
But there was nothing.
Her eyes were closing, and I couldn’t see if her chest was moving.
Somebody else screamed, and sirens echoed in the distance, and I reached for her again, trying to make sure that she was okay.
Because she had to be okay.
But there was nothing.
Just darkness.
