Chapter 9
PAIGE
In everything Remi does, it’s with a practiced patience and easy confidence.
Kissing is no different.
Which means that kiss was … holy shit. That kiss has Paige’s head spinning.
She didn’t know kisses could feel that good.
Now she understands why people enjoy doing it so much. If she knew it would feel like that she would’ve started kissing women years ago.
Or … maybe it’s not women, but kissing Remi that made it so good.
She’s not sure, but she’s not going to question it.
Remi’s pupils are blown, a dazed expression on her face that makes Paige’s heart skip a beat. It’s a heady feeling to see Remi as affected as she is.
“Damn!” There’s a wolf whistle behind them.
Remi and Paige both jump, startled, and whirl toward the voice. Both brides are standing two feet away. They both changed into more comfortable outfits. Casey’s in a white mini dress with a lace bodice and flats. Dakota’s in a black floor-length sleek jumpsuit with a lace top.
“That was …” Dakota shakes her head softly, her face one of awe. “I didn’t know you could dance like that, Remi.”
“Yeah, thanks for stealing the spotlight from us.” Casey winks.
The corner of Remi’s mouth tilts up. “Just a little payback after you stole my date.”
Dakota laughs, poking her wife in the side.
“Seriously? We’re still not over that?” Casey asks with a small wince.
Remi grins. “Well, since we’re at your wedding, I think it might be time to retire those jokes.”
“Thank you,” Casey says.
“Oh, come on, they’re so fun,” Dakota protests. Casey gives her a playfully unamused look, and Dakota kisses her cheek. She turns to Paige then. “Paige, right? Thank you so much for coming. I’m so excited to meet you.”
“No, thank you—you both—for letting me attend your wedding. The ceremony was beautiful. You both are stunning.”
“You’re so sweet. Thank you,” Casey says.
One of the bridesmaids—a short, attractive redhead—appears at Casey’s side and apologizes to Remi and Paige before whispering something in her ear.
“So sorry,” Casey says. “They want us to cut the cake.”
Dakota clicks her tongue. “I’m sorry for not being able to talk to you more, Paige. The four of us will have to grab dinner soon.”
“Absolutely,” Remi says, then wraps her arm around Paige’s waist. Her body melts into Remi’s side.
“Congratulations, you two,” Paige says, mentally kicking myself for not saying it already.
“Yes! Congrats,” Remi says.
The brides thank them before their bridesmaid leads them through the crowd. Remi pulls back to face Paige, yet her hand doesn’t leave her hip. She studies her face. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah. Of course.” Paige frowns, confused. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
“I’m just checking.” Remi’s eyes drop to her mouth, then snap back up. “I just … I want to make sure that was … okay?”
“Remi”—a small, shy smile finds its way to Paige’s lips—“that was more than okay.”
“Good.” Remi licks her lips and nods, seeming to mull over the words. “Because it was more than okay for me too.”
“Good.” Paige holds her gaze.
“Good.” Remi’s eyes don’t leave Paige’s mouth.
Is she going to kiss me again?
Paige wants Remi to kiss her again.
Remi closes her eyes, holds it for a moment, then shakes herself. “Would you … would you like a slice of cake?”
Paige wants to say screw cake and kiss Remi again and again until her lips are swollen and all the little old ladies here judge them.
“Sure,” Paige says instead, mentally trying to calm down her libido.
* * *
The night is magical. They spend half of their time on the dance floor, bodies pressed together. The other half they’re at their table, hands on one another’s legs, as they talk and laugh.
“You know, I’m not sure they’re convinced we’re dating,” Remi says with a nod to the other couple sitting at their table. The pair is deep in conversation.
“You don’t think so?” Paige asks.
Remi’s thumb strokes the inside of Paige’s wrist. “Nope. But I know something we can do to really sell it.”
Her throat clicks. “What would that be?”
Remi leans forward, tilting her head to the side. Her mouth hovers an inch from Paige’s. “I could kiss you again,” she whispers against her lips.
“I think that would be very convincing.”
The corner of Remi’s mouth quirks. “Let’s see.”
Paige meets her in the middle. Their lips collide with far more heat than is appropriate for an audience. Remi’s tongue sweeps into her mouth and Paige sucks on it, eliciting a groan from Remi.
Remi’s hand trails up Paige’s thigh and squeezes, her pinky dipping low between Paige’s legs, awakening a fire in her core. Reluctantly, they pull away before things can escalate further.
They’re both breathless as Remi rests her forehead against Paige’s.
“Definitely convincing,” Remi says, despite the fact the couple is no longer there.
“Definitely,” Paige rasps, the word throaty as a needy ache fires across her skin.
Then they’re kissing again.
The reception winds down, and Paige doesn’t want to leave. Once they walk out the barn doors they’ll be “off” and this magical night will be over. Remi must feel the same way because they stay for as long as possible.
Dakota and Casey are sent off in their car. Remi and Paige stay to help with cleaning up, even though one of the girlfriends of a bridesmaid—a dark-haired and quiet, masculine woman—insists they don’t have to.
Eventually, they can’t put it off any longer, and they make the short drive to their hotel, no longer touching now that they are “off.” There’s a thick silence in the air as neither one is sure what to say, while sexual tension still crackles between them.
Remi pulls into a parking spot. “Ready to head inside?”
Paige glances toward the large hotel building. It’s a big-name brand that should have an abundance of spacious rooms—enough that they shouldn’t have to accidentally touch again. She turns back to Remi’s waiting face, her soft blue eyes, and those gorgeous freckles dusting her nose and cheeks.
Shit.
This is going to be a long night.
