Chapter 26

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

EMMETT

I step over the lifeless pile of bones, making sure to spit on him as I pass. Fuck this guy. Fuck anyone who gets in between Blair and me. Every single soul in this building will die by my hand. Anyone who chooses to stand in my way will die.

The alarm system blares throughout the building, causing the hazard lights to flash. Fuck ! I shouldn’t have shot him, alerting everyone to the danger lurking was a mistake that could cost me. But the demon that was caged inside has broken free, and he's out for blood.

Surprisingly , no guards come barreling towards me. Instead , I’m met with a quiet, empty hallway. Doors line the hall and as I walk down, I see they’re numbered.

Ten …

Eleven …

Twelve …

Quickening my pace, I walk until I’m standing in front of room thirtee n. This is the fucker who thought he could purchase my little obsession to satisfy his own sick desires. Boy , was this motherfucker wrong.

Turning the doorknob, I swing the door open and point the gun inside. I freeze when I look into the room and find it empty. Unable to waste a single second in my search for Blair , I walk further down the hall, where I’m met with nothing but a dead end.

I pull out my phone and dial Grimm's number. The ringing seems like it goes on for an eternity before he finally picks up.

“ What’s up, baby?” He greets.

“ Grimm , Travis was right. James is kidnapping the students. They’ve got Blair ; I need to find her. I’m sending you my location. Find James and bring him to the shed behind his house. Wait for me there,” I inform him.

“ Yes , sir. How long will you be?” He asks, his tone steady, a contrast to my frantic state.

“ I’m not sure. But Grimm , do not kill him. He’s mine.” I demand.

“ Affirmative . Drop the pin; I’m on my way.” He says before ending the call.

I pocket my phone and continue my way through the building, every step heavy with urgency. Rounding a hallway corner, a creeping unease settles in my spine, and the faint echo of footsteps behind me grows louder. My grip on the gun tightens as I whirl around, more than ready to dispose of whoever is trying to get in my way now.

But before I can react, a familiar pressure against the back of my skull sends a jolt within me and pulses through my head. As I collapse to the floor, darkness clouds my vision, and a single thought consumes me. I’m too late. If something happens to my little obsession, it'll be my fault. I didn't save her in time.

FUCK .
