Chapter 49
CHAPTER 49
Hunter
I wasn’t supposed to be here.
I told myself I’d stay away.
That giving her space was the last good thing I could do.
But I couldn’t.
I needed an excuse to be near her.
So here I am. Working the event as security.
The second she stepped into the room in that dress, I felt it again.
That pull. That crack in my resolve.
She looked like danger wrapped in beauty.
Like she didn’t need protecting at all.
It’s been two weeks since I left.
Two weeks since I told myself she’d be safer without me.
And the worst part? I’ve still been watching.
Every security update.
Every shift report. I’ve tracked her habits.
Rerouted patrols around her building.
I haven’t stopped protecting her.
Samuel’s still out there.
No sightings. No noise.
He’s one of the best at staying hidden.
And that’s what makes him dangerous; he’s the kind that disappears until it’s too late.
Which is exactly why I’m here. Just in case.
