I need a few minutes to get myself together before we leave.

Anger burns through me over Kimber’s story and her call with Jo, and I don’t want to chase her while I’m pissed.

She revealed a lot of triggers that I had no idea about, and hair pulling happens to be something I tend to enjoy.

But I realize now that it might set her off after the discussion we had.

I want us to enjoy ourselves, so I won’t take the chance.

When I step out of the bathroom I expect to find her by the door waiting impatiently. Instead I find her on the bed, a purple slip-on in place of the bikini she has lying beside her, and she’s snoring.

Frowning, I step over and sweep the swimsuit onto the floor. She was so adamant about needing an escape I figured she wouldn’t be able to rest until we went out.

But now, she looks at peace. Sleep seems to offer a type of comfort that being awake doesn’t, and I wonder if nightmares plague her. My eyes drift to the bedside table and I scowl, snatching bottles off the counter.

I thought I tossed all the shots into the bathroom trash after pouring the liquid down the sink so she couldn’t dig them out to drink.

Alcohol is a vice, and she leans into it far too often.

I’ve noticed how she seems to be drunk more often than I expect, and the amount of liquor that she’s slammed down tonight makes me worry. It’s bad for her health.

I circle the bed and lay down beside her, propping myself on my elbow so I can watch her. All the fears from before seem to be gone, her body fully relaxed. Maybe the alcohol helps calm her down a little too well.

I bite my lip. Addiction isn’t something I’m terribly familiar with. It hasn’t plagued me, and I’ve never been close enough to anyone with an addiction problem to know how to help. This is foreign territory.

My phone buzzes on the side table behind me, and I eye Kimber for a moment to see if she stirs before rolling over. I frown at the caller ID before answering, keeping my eyes on the sleeping girl. “What?”

“Wow,” Callie says on the other end, and I half expected it to be Jo. I only answered because of the S no sleeves or jewelry or anything else.

“Nobody asked you asshole,” she snaps, and my brows lift. “Mind your business.”

“So sorry,” I tell her sarcastically, getting up from the seat. “If they’re old, scratching at them won’t make them go away.”

She scoffs, but her eyes are unfocused as she looks off the rooftop.

There’s already a safety bar all around the area, and a few workers standing around.

She’s not going to chuck herself off the edge at least, even if she’s staring hard enough I almost think she wants to. “No. Nothing will make them disappear.”

“You don’t have to make them disappear,” I say, passing her on my way to the stairs. “Those scars mean you lived through something. Pretending they aren’t there means you’re pretending nothing happened. You survived something.”

She shakes her head, looking up. It’s twilight, and up here if you squint you can make out some of the stars against the night sky. The creases around her eyes disappear as her gaze softens and she admires the stars. I follow her gaze, but it just looks like another night to me.

“Living and surviving are different,” she says with a sigh, and she sounds so sad I almost step over and try to engage her again. “Don’t you ever dream of something better than just making it to the next moment? Survival is the bare bones of life. Sometimes it’s not enough.”

I study her, watching as she bends, picks up the fruity drink from downstairs, and chugs the entire thing. It’s sort of impressive, and she slams the glass back down on the concrete like it didn’t affect her at all. “There’s got to be something you’re looking forward to.”

“Yeah,” she agrees, eyes going back to the sky. “The next dream.”

“Kimber will be fine,” I say, reaching over to stroke her hair. She’s so peaceful right now I don’t even want to wake her up. Not yet. “I’ve got to go, Callie.”

She sighs in her sleep when I lean over her later, watching the way her eyes flutter but stay closed as I run my fingers over the thong.

I don’t know if Kimber dressed like this to seriously go run through the woods or if she made a conscious commitment to staying in for the evening before she tossed this outfit on.

Her thong matches the nightgown, which laces on both sides, and I’ve already loosened it so it’s hardly doing anything at this point.

Kimber didn’t stir when I snaked an arm beneath her side, cupping her breast to tease her nipples through the thin material. This isn’t one of my designs; I leave myself a mental reminder to remedy that when we get back to town.

Pushing aside the thong, I trace her pussy with my fingers and find she’s already wet. Breathing in her scent, I lean over and nip her ear, earning a soft whimper. “Naughty girl. What are you dreaming about tonight?”

She stays asleep, and I slide a finger into her down to the second knuckle. It’s not enough to give her much of anything, but it does tease her and she lightly grinds back against me.

Kissing down the side of her neck, I graze my teeth along soft skin. I don’t need to hunt her to claim her. “I’m going to ruin you, Dreamer. You won’t just forget his name; you’ll forget he ever existed at all.”

She moans in her sleep when I start finger fucking her, needing her body open and responsive so I can toy with her. I pinch her nipple between my fingers until she whimpers, sucking on her throat to mark her again. She never complained in the past about that and I’m not about to stop now.

Kimber shifts in her sleep, granting me easier access to her pussy, and I add a second finger as her head rolls, exposing the front of her throat to my teeth. I briefly lift my head to kiss her lips, but I don’t want her waking up while I prep her.

Fuck it, she can stay out through the whole thing and I’ll wake her up after.

Reaching behind me, I grab the toy. She’s spent enough time admiring the different toys I make for the shops, it would be cruel to not use them on her. Removing my fingers I run the wide head of the dildo over her entrance, coating it before I start working it inside her.

She moans, and I grin to myself. Even asleep she’s so vocal for me. “Good girl. You can take all of this, and then you’ll take all of me.”
