Chapter 12 The Fight
In the end, I couldn't resign.
My boss returned my resignation letter and passed on Shen Zong's message.
He had already arranged for someone to take over his position.
He would never appear in front of me again.
Shen Zong kept his word. For a long time after that, he truly stayed away.
I figured he had finally given up this time.
After all, in front of me, he had already lost every shred of pride.
One day after work, I suddenly received a call from his friend Qin Yue.
He sounded frantic.
"Chunian, come to the police station quick. Shen Zong got into a fight with your boyfriend."
I hung up and rushed over.
I never expected to see Shen Zong under these circumstances.
When I noticed a long-haired girl standing next to Wen Zeyan, I understood immediately.
I walked up to Wen Zeyan and apologized sincerely.
"Senior, I'm really sorry about today. Go get your injuries treated at the hospital first. I'll treat you to dinner another day."
As Wen Zeyan and the girl turned to leave, Shen Zong exploded.
He stared at me in disbelief.
"Chunian, you like him that much? He's seeing someone else behind your back, and you're still apologizing to him? Clearly he's the one who wronged you."
"I told you before he wasn't reliable. He didn't even care enough to make sure you got home safely at night."
"A man like that, how could you..."
Afraid he would ruin my friendship with Wen Zeyan completely, I cut him off and confessed.
"Shen Zong, you misunderstood. Wen Senior and I have nothing between us. He is not my boyfriend."
Shen Zong froze for two seconds, mouth open like he wanted to say more.
Luckily Qin Yue covered his mouth in time.
"Chunian, why did you lie to me back then?"
"I'm not his Stand-In at all, right?"
After we left the station, Shen Zong followed me the whole way.
When we reached the entrance of my building, he finally couldn't hold back.
I stopped and met his eyes seriously, my tone even.
"If I hadn't said that, would you have agreed to break up with me?"
Hurt flickered across his face, as if old pain had been stirred up.
He looked at me, voice rough.
"Why do you insist on breaking up with me?"
