Chapter 15 Coming Back to You
I took a cab to Shen Zong's place.
I pressed the doorbell for a long time before the door finally opened.
When he saw it was me standing there, Shen Zong froze for a second. Then wild joy exploded in his eyes.
"Baby, why are you here?"
I took a deep breath. "I have something I want to say to you."
The air went quiet for a moment.
I looked at Shen Zong and spoke slowly. "After I went back that night, I thought about a lot of things. A big part of why we ended up breaking up was because of me."
"I'm sensitive, twisted, and my pride is too strong. I've lacked security since I was little. I overthink every unknown thing and don't dare to risk it. The moment I learned about the gap between us, my first instinct was to run and hide."
"After the breakup, I thought I could forget you quickly. But I found out I couldn't do it any more than you could. I like you far more than I ever imagined. So Shen Zong... let's get back together."
"Okay." His voice carried a smile, but his eyes turned red. "Baby, no matter what happens from now on, don't ever tell me you want to break up again."
"No matter what we face, we'll solve it together."
"Mm-hm."
After we got back together, Shen Zong became even clingier than before—he stuck to me constantly, insisted on holding me while we slept, and even planned to follow along whenever we went out.
Once his injuries healed, he pulled me into it without restraint until the middle of the night.
The warm light above kept swaying. My voice broke apart under his movements.
"Shen Zong, enough... enough already. Are you ever going to stop?"
He leaned down and kissed the tears from the corner of my eye, then smiled.
"Baby, don't cry. I'll switch to a way that makes you feel good right away."
The next second, Shen Zong parted my legs and buried his head between them.
The next day, noises from the living room woke me up.
"Mom, Dad, keep it down. She's still sleeping."
"Not today. You'll scare her like this. Next time."
"Shen Zong, you little brat. Your mom and I just got here and you're already trying to kick us out? Looking for a beating again?"
I curled under the blanket. My chest felt wrapped in warm honey.
After they left, Shen Zong tiptoed back into the bedroom.
He found me sitting on the bed, smiling at him.
"Shen Zong, so that's how you are with your parents."
He walked over in a few steps and hugged me, resting his chin on my shoulder.
"Baby, believe it or not? Even though I'm the youngest at home, my parents basically raised me with beatings."
"I believe it."
Most people who grew up surrounded by parental love have a really warm relationship with their parents.
The way Shen Zong interacted with his proved exactly that.
As we talked, my gaze suddenly landed on the trophies displayed on the bookshelf.
"Shen Zong, do you have any more races coming up?"
We had been together for a year, and I always knew how much he loved racing.
For all kinds of reasons before, I had never been able to watch him win in person.
Now I wanted to make up for what I missed.
He went quiet for a second before answering. "I do, Baby."
