Chapter Twenty-Six
It was three in the morning when Logic’s vibrating phone pulled him from his deep slumber.
Without sitting up, he peered around the room, allowing his eyes to adjust to the darkness.
Making a pallet sounded like a good idea, but after fucking Tyler in multiple positions on the hard floor, his knees and back were on fire.
Logic ran his hand up her back as she snored lightly on his chest. Her wig was fucked up, and Shane was probably going to kill them, but it was worth it.
Did she cum every time they fucked? No, but Logic got a thrill out of trying to pull it out of her.
By the time they took their second shower, Tyler was sore, her lips were swollen, and she finally tapped out when he tried to fuck her on the kitchen counter.
Logic’s dick stiffened at the thought of sliding back between her thighs, but his phone vibrated again, alerting him of the missed call.
Bzzzzz bzzzzzz
This time Logic reached for it and was surprised to see so many text messages and calls.
It seemed like everyone who had his number was trying to reach him.
Shifting Tyer to the side, Logic sat up and called Spice since the last call came from her.
As the phone rung, a wave of uneasiness washed over him.
“Lo.” Her cracked voice sent a chill down his spine.
“What’s wrong?” Logic asked, shifting Tyler from his chest to the floor so he could stand up.
The move caused Tyler to open her eyes and roll onto her back.
The concerned look on his face had her standing to her feet.
She didn’t bother asking him what was going on, Tyler started handing him articles of clothing while collecting her own.
“P-Pepper didn’t come pick up Sage. Sh-she made a mistake and butt dialed him. Her and John were talking stuff about you, saying the only reason they came back was to get money from you a-and they were saying mean things about Sage.”
“Let me talk to him,” Logic sighed, hating that he knew it would come to this. He wasn’t stupid enough to think Pepper came back because she missed them. Her shaky ass needed money, and if she thought Logic was going to give it to her, she was out of her fucking mind.
“Sage got mad,” Spice incoherently explained. “H-he left out the house and got in the car with Joey.”
“Imma fuck him up, put him on the phone,” Logic urged, slipping into his shoes.
“He got into it with some dude at a party about a girl,” she cried, sending Logic’s heart to the bottom of his feet.
“Spice,” he pleaded, stopping in his tracks. “Put Sage on the phone.”
“It was a big fight, Lo. They started shooting and Sage-
“Sage what?” Logic barked as his mouth watered. “Put him on the phone.”
“Sage was shot three times,” she sobbed, knocking the wind out of him.
Like someone hit him in the stomach, Logic stumbled back and fell against the wall.
His legs felt like noodles, and he lost the ability to speak.
His blood ran cold as he tried to wrap his mind around what he heard.
Sage was at home. There was no way he left to go to a party.
He didn’t do shit like that. His little brother wouldn’t do some shit like that.
“Oh my god, Lo,” Tyler belted, running to Logic’s side as the phone slipped out of his hands.
“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” Logic’s fist pounded against the bedroom door as tears streamed down his face.
“Hello, hello,” Ms. G spoke into the phone after taking it from Spice, who had completely fallen apart. “Lo,” she pleaded. “Pick up the phone, baby.”
Hearing the voice, Tyler bent down to pick up the phone while Logic assaulted the wall.
“Hey, umm this is Tyler. Can you tell me what hospital yall are at? I’ll bring him.”
“We’re at Detroit Receiving.”
“Ok, we’ll be there in a minute.” Tyler ended the call. “Logic.” She shook him. “Come on, you have to go.”
“I can’t see him like that.” He shook his head. “Fuck,” Logic cried.
“You have to. Lo, they need you. We have to go,” Tyler pleaded, cupping his face. “Come on, let’s go.” She pressed her forehead to his. “They’re yours, right?”
“Aight.” Logic sniffed hard and wiped his face.
“Aight.” He picked himself up from the ground.
Picking up his keys off the floor, Tyler followed Logic out the door, locked his house, and jumped into the driver’s seat.
???
Detroit Receiving Hospital was in shambles.
The shooting at the party brought in four shooting victims, several teens who were hit by the reckless driver, and a few more who were trampled in the stampede.
The emergency room was packed from wall to wall as concerned parents and guardians bombarded the staff with questions about their loved ones.
Doctors in white coats walked around delivering heartbreaking news to families, while others prayed that those same doctors didn’t approach them with the same news.
No one was able to tell them how their kid went to a party and ended up in the morgue.
The second Logic and Tyler walked through the emergency doors, a stillness washed over the room.
The pounding in his ears blocked out all the low whispers as he dodged sympathetic glances.
Logic recognized a few people from around the way, but he didn’t have time to stop and talk.
He was sure that their being there meant their kids were at the same party, so he silently prayed that God protected them too.
Random bystanders secretly snapped pictures of him while others gave him reassuring smiles.
“Lo,” Al called out, standing near a set of white doors. “We back here.”
“Aht aht, how they get to go back there, and we been standing here waiting to hear something about my lil cousin?” A woman dressed in a long night shirt, slippers, and a robe questioned as Logic and Tyler headed in Al’s direction.
“Probably cause he got money,” another man simpered. “You know they treat people with money different.”
“That’s fucked up! I wanna talk to somebody in charge!” she spat as Logic and Tyler walked past her like royalty.
“Bitch, pick yo titties up before someone trips on that saggy shit,” Tyler spat as they stepped through the white doors that closed behind them.
Al didn’t speak. He didn’t know what to say because nothing he said was going to make the moment any lighter.
He couldn’t say that everything was going to be ok because they didn’t know.
Did he have faith? Yes, but having faith meant believing that God was going to do what was best and sometimes those decisions weren’t meant to be understood.
The second Logic turned the corner, the brim of his eyes pooled with tears. His sisters were holding onto Ms. G for dear life as Duce and Pearl stood close to them. When the twins' eyes landed on their big brother, they jumped up and raced over to him.
Crying, the twins buried their faces into Logic’s shirt as he rubbed their backs and kissed the top of their heads.
No words were spoken as he silently gathered his composure.
He knew they needed to hear words of reassurance, but he had none to give.
Logic didn’t know Sage’s condition, and as soon as he opened his mouth to ask, he heard a loud commotion coming from behind him.
Turning around, he spotted Pepper being led down the hall by John and a nurse who was struggling to hold her up.
Pepper was crying, stomping her feet, and asking God to spare her baby’s life.
Without warning, Spice pulled away from her brother and charged the dramatic woman as if she wasn’t her mother.
“This is your fault,” Spice screamed, grabbing the neck of Pepper’s shirt. “You did this to him,” she cried, trying to claw at her mother’s face.
“Spice, no,” Pearl pleaded, running over to contain the child since everyone else was in shock. Spice was crying and swinging on her mother while Pepper tried to escape from her grip. When John reached out to touch Spice, Logic snapped out of his trance and ran over to them.
“Lo-” John’s eyes doubled in size as Logic’s large fist met the side of his face, and it didn’t stop there. He kept swinging.
“Aye bro, chill.” Al and Duce tried to hold Logic back while Tyler and Pearl held onto the twins, who were still trying to attack their mother.
The chaotic, emotional scene had Ms. G reaching for pearls she didn’t own. Security guards and police officers stormed the hallway, demanding that the family stop before they started arresting people.
“Logic,” Tyler pleaded. “You’re hurt, but you gotta stop so they’ll stop,” she begged from the other side of the hallway. Shugg was bending her fingers back, trying to get to her mother, and Tyler was tempted to let her wild ass go.
“Is this the family of Sage Peterson?” The doctor’s voice stopped everyone in their tracks. Logic spun around to face them. Quietly, he searched the doctor's face for an answer to the only question he had. Breaking loose from Al, Logic approached the doctor, standing inches away from his face.
“I’m his brother.”
“And I’m his mother!” Pepper screamed. “The hospital called me! His mother!”
"They called you because you were the last number he dialed." Logic bursted her bubble.
“Ma’am, if you can’t control yourself, we’re going to ask you to leave,” an officer warned.
“Just let me check on my baby, the only one who loves me, and then I’ll leave,” Pepper spat, fixing the collar of her stretched out shirt.
“Mr. Peterson was brought in with three gunshot wounds,” the doctor explained.
“One to the chest, one to the abdomen, and one to the leg. He lost a lot of blood and coded on the table three times. Mr. Peterson suffered a collapsed lung, bowel perforation, and the bullet to the leg nicked his femoral artery.”
“Oh my god,” Pepper cried out, falling into John.
“We’ve done everything we can do,” the doctor confirmed. “Right now he’s breathing with the help of a ventilator, and if he makes it through the night, we’ll move forward with scheduling surgeries.
