Chapter 2 The Call He Answered

"I'm sorry... I didn't know that online friend was you." I apologized to Xu Yan.

"Online friend?"

Xu Yan smiled. "So an online boyfriend doesn't count as a boyfriend?"

I looked at him. "Do you... want it to count?"

"It counts."

My phone rang. It was Xu Jiaqing calling on voice.

I accepted it, then looked up at Xu Yan. "Please continue..."

Xu Yan said, "Your Prince Charming is calling. Aren't you going to answer?"

I pulled out my phone. The passcode was still the one I changed to his birthday back when we were online.

Xu Yan watched me unlock it, and his brows furrowed slightly.

Another voice call notification popped up from Xu Jiaqing.

While I hesitated, Xu Yan reached over and answered it for me.

Xu Jiaqing sounded a little stuttery. "Were you in class just now? I'm free tonight. Do you... want to come over for dinner?"

Xu Yan leaned against the wall, slowly buttoning his collar back up.

I broke into a cold sweat.

He glanced at me, then spoke calmly. "Go ahead. I can drive you there. I'll even cook a few of your favorite dishes while I'm at it."

"..."

After a short silence, Xu Jiaqing asked uncertainly, "Brother? Why... why are you with Tian Wan?"

Xu Yan replied coldly, "Tian Wan wasn't paying attention in class, so I pulled her aside for a private talk."

"Right now? Then five minutes ago, did you... I mean, have you gotten a girlfriend? My mouth felt weird earlier."

I couldn't help pressing my lips together.

Five minutes ago, Xu Yan had been kissing me.

Could what Xu Jiaqing said be true? Did he and Xu Yan really share some kind of Synesthesia Link?

Xu Yan reached out and wiped the cold sweat from my temple, then asked Xu Jiaqing in return, "That's something I should be asking you. What were you doing alone at home? You almost made me lose composure in class."

"Brother..."

Xu Jiaqing clearly panicked. "I-I didn't do anything. Don't overthink it. Just give the phone back to Tian Wan. We're all college students now—do we really need to be so strict about classroom discipline? I messed up too. She was only because of me..."

Before he finished, Xu Yan hung up.

"Annoying."

His expression darkened as he turned around. "Didn't you want to go to Xu Jiaqing's place for dinner tonight? Let's go. I'll drive you."
