Chapter Sixty Bennett
| Sixty |
Bennett
Bennett shut the door to his hotel room and flopped down on the bed, not even bothering to take off his shoes.
He fumbled in his pocket for his phone and pulled it out.
He set his alarm to go off in forty-five minutes.
But first, sleep. He’d arrived in Rome from Munich two hours ago and his talk was in three hours.
One more week and this would all be behind him and he could get back to the life he loved.
He hated touring. It wasn’t that he didn’t appreciate his readers.
Of course he did. But having moderators ask the same boring questions day after day was mind-numbing.
And trying to answer enthusiastically took acting skills he didn’t possess, but he did his best.
In what seemed like seconds later, his alarm went off and he stretched and got up.
After a quick shower and change he sat down and opened his laptop.
He went to the video footage of the house.
There was a queue of videos in the history.
He clicked on the first one. There was Savannah, making tea for Felicia.
He was glad the two of them were getting along.
Poppy had never liked Felicia and the feeling was mutual.
He turned the volume up as he unpacked, listening to them both.
But then he turned and ran back to the laptop, hitting rewind.
Savannah was asking about Isabel. That was strange.
He rewound further. Ah, it was because of the book dedication.
That made sense. He didn’t realize she was the jealous type.
He’d have to reassure her when he was home that he only had eyes for her.
He fast-forwarded through the next few videos.
Savannah and Finn. Savannah and Felicia.
No one bothering his office. He shut the laptop and went to his talk.
