Chapter 1 Rowdy
Harmoni was in the kitchen cooking when I crept up behind her.
She felt my presence and turned around, startled.
I hated that I would have to kill the woman I loved, but to be set up and used was some unforgivable shit.
I looked at her with hate and disgust in my eyes, causing her smile to fade. I lifted my shirt, exposing my gun.
“I already know everything. Now, I want you to tell me, and I want you to think carefully about how you respond because your life depends on it,” I spat.
Tears rolled down her face, and she grabbed her stomach.
“I wanted to tell you about the baby, but I was scared that you would leave me. I only slept with my ex once, and it was before we were official, so I really do believe the baby is yours. I know in my heart that this is your son, Rowdy.”
Son? What the fuck was she talking about? A baby, and it is mine? I pulled my gun off my waist and walked closer to where Harmoni stood.
“You think I’m a fool, huh? You’ve been plotting on me from the jump, so you and that hoe ass nigga could set me up. Jokes on you, though. Your little game is coming to an end sooner than you expected, and that nigga ain’t around to save you!”
“What are you talking about, Rowdy? You are really starting to scare me!” Harmoni cried.
We were now face to face, and although I loved her, it was taking everything in me not to slump her ass. Part of me wanted to hear her out, but another side said to just end it all now. I knew she would only lie, and that would make me even angrier.
“You can keep the pregnancy lies for Jakari. Yeah, I know you and that nigga been plotting on me, but y’all didn’t think to tie up all the loose ends.
Diamond’s dumb ass told me everything, and before you think about telling lies, I already have the proof,” I told her as I pulled out Diamond’s phone and showed her the pictures.
After powering Diamond’s phone back off, I slid it into my pocket while Harmoni stood there looking dumb as hell. I was just a second away from doing what I came there to do.
“How do you know Diamond and Jakari? I’m really so confused, and you pulled a gun out on me. What the fuck is going on, right now? I’m not even mad at you for doing all this. I’m lost, and I just need you to tell me what all of this is about.”
“Harmoni! You playing a dangerous game. I’m really about to leave you stiff and stankin’ in this bitch!
If you were anybody else, you would already be dead.
I’m being nice and trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but if you gon’ continue to play in my face, I’m about to show you who the fuck I really am!
Look me in my eyes and tell me that you and that nigga didn’t plot to take me out!
Tell me you don’t know nothing at all about what I have going on in these streets! ” I barked.
“I promise you, I didn’t even know you knew that nigga. I don’t have any dealings with him. He doesn’t even have my number. He is my ex, and Diamond is the girl who jumped and robbed me. She’s obsessed with me and stalks me. How are you even in contact with her?”
“I’m asking the fucking questions! Prove to me that you don’t deal with that nigga. I got the number! Dial it and talk regular or see what the fuck happens to you!” I spoke through clenched teeth.
I took out my burner phone and called off the number to Harmoni. When she dialed it, no contact came up, which meant she didn’t have his number saved into her phone. Still, that didn’t prove shit to me. The phone was on speaker when Jakari answered.
“Yeah?” he answered.
“Hey, this is Harmoni.” She spoke in a calm tone.
“What’s up, Moni? Is everything straight?
I thought you hated me and never wanted to hear my bitch ass voice again.
I’m glad you called, but look, I got some real shit going on, and I’m trying to make something shake in a little bit of time.
Can I call you later? A nigga really in a fucked up spot.
Like some life or death type shit that I’m handling. ”
Harmoni looked at me with her brows raised, and she let curiosity get the best of her.
“Please don’t call this phone back. You can talk to me now while we’re already speaking. What’s going on, Jakari? Although we are not together and will never be together again, I still don’t wanna see nothing bad happen to you, and you sound really fucked up right now.”
“Man, Moni, it’s some street shit that just went too far.
Like I’ve always said, I would never put you in my business again when it comes to that shit.
Just know you were right about everything, and I should have been went legit a long time ago.
I know you don’t wanna hear about it, and I’ve hurt you real bad with this, but my son’s life is on the line.
All the shit I’ve done is catching up with me, so if we never talk again, just know that I love you and always will.
Take care, Harmoni, and I’m sorry for everything I've ever done to cause you pain. You and my son were the only good things I got outta life,” Jakari said before I snatched the phone and ended the call.
I blocked his number and then deleted it from her call log.
“What did you do, Rowdy, and why? What does he mean his son’s life is on the line?
You see that I don’t talk to him at all.
I have been nothing but honest and faithful to you.
The only thing I hid was the baby. I found out I was pregnant after those girls jumped me, and I had to go to the hospital.
Remember that time you went missing? I told you from jump that I was just getting out of a relationship, so the first time you made love to me was almost a week after I slept with him for the last time.
We weren’t officially together when I fucked him last,” Harmoni looked into my eyes and spoke.
“You still pushing this baby shit? I still can’t trust or believe you.
You mean to tell me this nigga that’s been killing my people, taking my work, and at war with me is the same nigga you dated for five years, but you had no clue of who I was and that this wasn’t a setup? ” I asked in a harsh tone.
“I don’t have to lie. I don’t get involved in street bullshit, and as far as my pregnancy, all my papers and ultrasounds are put up in my office.
You really came here to kill me, though?
I thought you were a businessman, not some street-ass hood nigga.
No matter how outlandish it may sound, I didn’t know shit about you and Jakari, and now I wish I had never met either one of you fuck niggas!
Get your gun and get the fuck out of my house,” Harmoni spat as she looked at me with disgust and rage in her eyes.
Harmoni was no longer afraid; now, she was pissed off.
She turned the stove off and stormed to the back of the house.
In a matter of seconds, she came back with papers from the doctor and ultrasounds.
She was indeed pregnant. That explained why she had been getting thicker, the mood swings, and her never having a period.
I had been so caught up and consumed with revenge that I couldn’t fully pay attention to my girl.
My head was all fucked up, and I didn’t know what was true or not.
What I did know was that I believed her about her ex.
I now knew she didn’t plot to have me killed, and she was really pregnant.
I couldn’t even get excited, though, because the baby might belong to a nigga that I may have to kill.
“You taking too long to move the fuck around. You wanna flash guns and threaten me? By the time I make it to the closet and come back in here, if you not gone, I’m going to give you what you came here for.
So, I guess you think it makes you a real nigga to pull a gun on me.
The woman you say you love. Everything makes sense now.
Diamond told you that I was messing with Jakari.
You also had tickets to the movies for two adults and a kid but lied about it.
You got your revenge by fucking my stalker.
Bitch, if you don’t leave my shit right now!
” Harmoni yelled as she stormed to the bedroom.
I heard her pushing buttons on the safe before I had a chance to explain.
I grabbed my keys and headed out. The look in her eyes said fuck around and find out, but I wasn’t ready to die.
Not today. I jumped in my whip and got the fuck out of dodge.
Today had been a fucked up day, and I had more questions than I did answers, but I knew Diamond’s bitch ass would have to tell me something that made sense if she wanted to keep breathing.
On the drive back to the cabin, I had a lot of time to think and process all the shit I was just told.
It was a wild ass coincidence that the woman I had fallen in love with was also the ex of my opp.
What was even crazier was that she was pregnant, and it could belong to this bitch ass nigga.
I had too much on my plate, and I was ready to flash out.
I now knew that Harmoni hadn’t set me up, but that didn’t make shit easier to accept.
I really didn’t know where I would go from here, but now I knew it was time to make muthafukas pay.
Once I arrived at the cabin, I rushed inside with a vengeance.
I needed answers, and I knew just who was about to give them to me.
I walked past the playroom first, and JJ was taking a nap in his beanbag chair that I had bought for him.
I closed the room door and headed to the back of the place.
When I walked into the bedroom, Diamond was in the same place, but now her mouth was duct taped again.
