Chapter 1

Powerful, confident, and fierce were the best words to use when describing Nala Carter Dlamini.

She was a woman on a mission. She walked alongside her twin brothers.

Daniel’s men opened the door for them. They walked in on a wedding.

Every head in attendance turned to gawk at them.

Carter was dressed beautifully in a white dress that stopped in the middle of her thighs.

A matching white veil was on her head concealing her identity.

Carter smiled on the inside at the sharp intakes and whispers.

She felt like Maleficent when she cast a spell on Aurora.

However, she came for blood not magic. Nobody moved as she neared the altar.

Everyone was shocked at the audacity of her.

She pulled her gun from in between her thighs.

Before anyone could react, she placed her gun to London’s face and pulled the trigger.

“Ahh!” Pure chaos broke out as London fell at the altar. Carter swung her pistol in Serg’s direction. She put two bullets in him. She turned as her brothers opened fire on everyone. The doors to the church opened and more of their men ran in with guns blazing.

“Come on, we gotta get you out of here!” Ben demanded over the gunfire. Carter nodded as she watched the Walsh’s bloodline be wiped out.

“Come on, Nala.” Daniel urged her forward. The trio walked towards the side doors. Ben opened the door. He walked out with his chopper in hand. He opened the black door on the black truck and Nala climbed inside.

“Go to the house. We’ll be there,” Ben demanded, and she nodded. He closed the door and Ben’s driver pulled away.

Carter’s face contorted into a wicked smile.

London was gone but she didn’t feel better.

She wanted Nautica, no she needed him. She placed her hand on her stomach and her daughter started kicking like crazy as if she knew her mother was up to no good.

However, about Nautica Dlamini, it could get like that with whoever.

She arrived at her brother’s home and went inside, heading to her bedroom.

She stood in her closet mirror, staring at her reflection.

She was seven months pregnant with Nautica’s first child.

She wished she could share the experience with him but life wasn’t fair.

She was so mad at Nautica and even herself because she felt like if he wasn’t so upset with her, he wouldn’t have let his guard down with London. She was the real threat.

She removed her veil and unzipped her dress.

She walked into her room and started the fireplace.

She watched as the orange flames grew. She tossed her clothes inside.

Then, she walked in the bathroom and took a quick shower.

Afterwards, she got dressed in a black jacket that fit her body and grey sweats.

She put a pair of socks on her feet before heading downstairs to the kitchen.

Carter opened the refrigerator and pulled out her plate that Sherry, Ben’s chef, put up for her. She stuck it in the microwave.

Beep, beep

She grabbed her plate and sat down, stuffing her face. The sounds of footsteps approached letting her know her brothers were back.

“Everything straight,” Daniel informed her.

“Thanks,” Carter said, and they nodded in unison.

“You know we’ll do anything for you. You need to slow down now, Nala. You’re pregnant.” Ben cut into her like she knew he was going to. He was the oldest out of the three.

“I am, I promise,” Carter said, truthfully. For months, she had left a trail of bodies behind her as she looked high and low for London and Serg.

“You better,” Daniel added, causing her to suck her teeth.

“I heard y’all, damn. Can one of y’all drive me to the airport, please?”

“My wife just called, I’m out.” Daniel kissed the top of her head.

“Come on, you ready?” Ben asked. She stood and threw away her plate. They walked outside, getting in his truck. He pulled off while she fastened her seatbelt.

“Don’t be acting like you trying to get rid of me,” Carter sassed.

“It’s time to go sis. You got me coming out of retirement doing shit I’on do no more.”

“Thank you, bra.” She hugged him tightly.

“Always,” he assured, making her feel better about dragging them into her drama.

Her phone vibrated in her purse. She grabbed it to see it was a text from Amari. She rolled her eyes after reading it.

Amari: We need to talk, now.

“What’s up?” Ben asked as he glanced in her direction.

“Nothing. Amari texted. I’m sure he knows what happened.”

“You didn’t tell him?”

“Nah.” She texted Amari back, letting him know she was on her way back to Nashville.

Carter walked in her home. She sat her purse down as the doorbell went off. She looked on the screen to see Amari, Nyke, and Greer. She opened the door and Greer greeted her with a hug. Everyone walked off, leaving Amari and Carter alone.

“I’m sorry. I know I should’ve said something but I knew you would try and talk me down.”

Amari’s expression remained stoic. She sighed, awaiting his response. Over the past few months, Nautica’s brothers had become like her own. She was grateful for them.

“I’m glad you and my niece are okay. I can’t be mad ‘cause you handled the business. They saying it was a massacre.”

“I had to kill them all. In order to eliminate the snake, you got to cut off its head. What better way than a wedding?” She smirked, causing him to laugh.

“You wild, sis. I’ma need you to let me and Nyke handle the business going forward. My brother would lose his mind if something happened to y’all.”

“How do you know? Your brother didn’t even like me like that.” As of late, she wondered what Nautica would have thought about all that she had been up to with child.

“You and I both know that’s not true. Even when y’all were friends. He respected and loved you, too. I know you have brothers but you have me and Nyke, too. Call me if you need me,” he said before walking off, leaving her to her thoughts. She walked in the kitchen to find Faith cooking.

“Heyyy, baby! How are you?” Faith cooed.

“Hey, Fay. I missed you! I’m okay, how are you?”

“Can’t complain, it’s good to see you.”

“You too, I keep telling you that you might as well move in instead of staying in Nautica’s big empty house.

” Faith stopped what she was doing and looked at Carter.

It had been over two hundred days without their favorite person.

They both were struggling. Faith walked over and cooked every day for Carter. She’d even spent a few nights.

“I can’t. I feel like that’s too final.”

“I get it.” Carter gave her a warm smile. Nautica had two mothers plus Faith. Everyone was hurting without him.

“I’ll be back.” Carter walked out of the kitchen. She headed upstairs to the second floor of her home. She followed the sounds of everyone’s voices. She walked in to find Ayla there as well.

“Hey daughter-in-law, you look so pretty!” Ayla gushed as she greeted Carter with a hug. She cradled her stomach.

“Hey, Ma! Thank you. Why you didn’t tell me you was coming, so I could have been here to greet you?”

“I had lunch with my nephews and niece first. I wanted to surprise you.” Ayla watched as Carter walked towards the bed in the middle of the room. Nautica lay there resting. Carter stroked his curly fro that had grown over the past few months. His beard was cut to perfection along with his hair.

Nautica had been in a coma for months. It had been rough but they still had hope that he would come back to them.

Carter had been gone for five days. It was the longest she had ever been separated from Nautica since he’d been shot.

The doctors were surprised that he hadn’t checked out.

The bullet was in his brain and would be for the rest of his life if he survived.

The doctors assured them there was brain activity. Carter felt that he would come back to her at any day, that’s how much faith she had in God.

“Where’s Baby Amaya?” Carter asked Greer. Amaya was Greer and Amari’s daughter. Carter sat down beside Ayla.

“With Amy. Honey, she always got my baby.” Greer playfully rolled her eyes, causing them to laugh.

“I get it ‘cause I sholl can’t wait to meet Granny princess. I know I’ma have to fight my sister over her too.” Ayla lovingly rubbed Carter’s stomach.

“Oh don’t forget Nova Kanu. Chile I ain’t never talked to that lady so much in my life since I been pregnant,” Carter said to Ayla and Greer.

Carter chilled with her in-laws for hours before walking everyone out.

She grabbed her cleaning supplies. Then, she started the process of cleaning their room.

Afterwards, she undressed and got in the shower.

Once she was clean, she got dressed in pajamas.

She grabbed two buckets filling one with hot water.

She filled the other one with soap and water.

She undressed Nautica before cleaning his body.

Carter’s mind traveled back in time to the night they were supposed to meet.

She often blamed herself thinking if she had been there a little earlier, then he wouldn’t have gotten shot.

Thanks to the security cameras, she was able to see that London was involved.

Once she realized the room that Nautica was found in was under Sergio Walsh, she was livid.

London had played him same as she had. London had deceived him with the intention of harming him.

Carter had originally deceived him to distribute her drugs until her father found out about them.

An arranged marriage was what her father wanted, in exchange for wronging her family by living with the enemy.

She didn’t tell Nautica in fear of losing him and their friendship.

From the beginning, he’d always had her back.

She always had his back and always would.
