Chapter 14

“You still haven’t talked to her?” Zaki asked Shadow in regard to Kemi.

It had been weeks since he’d met his mini me.

He was extremely grateful that he had another son but he hated how much time he missed.

Thanks to Kemi, he couldn’t get the last five years of his son’s life back.

Lil Sawyer treated him as if he’d raised him his whole life.

Kemi had taught their son just about everything she knew about him.

“Nah. Fuck Kemi.” He thought about her, getting angry. The same way she came to have him kill her father, she could have come five years ago. He was trying to forgive her, especially after everything she told him but it was hard.

“Give her some slack, you know how Worth was. That nigga scared me and don’t no nigga walking this earth put fear in my heart.”

“Pussy ass nigga.” Shadow frowned.

Zaki shot him a bird. Shadow wasn’t tripping because it was the truth. Worth and his daughter were deadly and extremely dangerous. He was surprised his son was as loving as he was. Then again, he didn’t know how Kemi raised him.

Promise walked in the room with two trays in hand. Pryce was strapped against her. Sawyer was ahead of her with drinks in hand. Promise sat their food on the table. Lil Sawyer sat the drinks on the table as well.

“Thanks y’all for the food.” Zaki held out his fist to Lil Sawyer. He bumped fist with Zaki. Then his dad pulled him into a hug.

“You helped P cook?”

“No, I watched my brother. He was crying. He a crybaby.” He frowned, causing everyone to laugh.

“Nephew, he’s a baby. That’s what babies do. When he gets big like you, he won’t cry so much but until then, you got to take care of him.” Zaki held out his fist again.

“Did you take care of my dad?”

“Of course I did. I always will, he’s my brother,” Zaki truthfully stated.

Him and Shadow weren’t biological brothers but no one could tell them that.

They stayed in trouble at an early age to the point their mothers tried to separate them.

They stopped when they realized they were wasting their time.

“Okay, I’ll take care of him.”

“No matter what happens, I want you to always look after your brother. You hear me?” Shadow asked him, and he quickly nodded. Shadow held his hand out. Lil Sawyer slapped hands with him.

“Daddy have you talked to my mommy? I miss her.” Shadow looked at Promise. She walked out, leaving them alone.

“No, son, I haven’t. I think she’s working. I’m sure she’ll be back soon. Until then, you can stay with me, Promise, and your brother.”

“Okay!”

Shadow kissed the top of his head. He had to find Kemi for the sake of their son despite the loose ends she had to tie up. He also wanted to make sure she was alive and well.

“Goodnight, Dad. I’m going upstairs so Promise can read me a story.”

“Okay, Goodnight, Daddy big dude. I love you.” Shadow pulled him in, kissing his forehead.

“Good night, love you too.” Lil Sawyer rushed out the room.

“I’ll look into finding her.”

“Appreciate it.”

They finished eating while watching the game. Zaki sparked a blunt, taking a few pulls from it. Then, he passed it to Shadow.

“We still double dating this weekend?”

“As far as I know. Lola been tripping on me, though. Janet told her we was still fucking ‘cause I wouldn’t give her no money.”

“Damn, I can’t even believe you still be talking to her.”

“Nigga you know damn well I don’t be talking to that crazy-ass girl. She be randomly reaching out but I blocked her, and she DM’d Lola. I been trying to get out the doghouse all week.” He sighed at the thought.

“She’ll come around.”

“Shid I hope so, I’m about to head that way so she don’t think no crazy shit.” Zaki stood.

Shadow walked him to the front door. They slapped hands then Zaki walked out.

Shadow locked the doors. He walked upstairs to their floor.

He walked into Lil Sawyer’s room to find him sound asleep.

Shadow walked into his room where Promise was in bed.

Pryce was beside the bed in his basinet.

Shadow went in the bathroom to handle his hygiene.

He walked in the room with a trail of steam following him.

“Has Kemi called you?”

“Why are you asking me that?” Promise frowned.

“I’m just saying.”

“You’re just saying what, exactly?”

“Y’all was on y’all sister wives shit so I was just making sure.” He dropped his towel, stepping into a pair of white briefs.

“Boy fuck you and your wife!” Promise spat, causing him to smirk.

“You want me to fuck you, P?” He climbed in the bed, grabbing her foot and yanking her towards him.

“No, get off me.” She laughed as he kissed all over her face and chest.

“You said fuck my wife.” He pecked her lips before climbing off of her.

“Not me the other one.” She climbed under the covers while he got in on the other side.

“But I love you, my spoiled baby.” Shadow reached across the bed, pulling her into his arms. They were chest to chest.

“I wouldn’t keep nothing from you.”

“I know, baby, go to sleep while we can.” He kissed her lips. He nodded off first. He was always at peace when he was under Promise.
