Chapter 33
Shadow walked in Kemi’s room. He was stunned to see her sitting up. Akio laid asleep beside her. He walked on the other side of her, taking a seat.
“Where are the boys?” She asked, hating the sound of her voice. She kicked the covers off, walking into the bathroom. Akio stirred in his sleep. He sat up, looking over at Shadow.
“Where is Kemi?” Shadow nodded his head to the door. The shower turned on, letting them know they had a minute to have the conversation that they needed to have.
“How did the sit down go?” Akio asked Shadow.
“There may be some pushback. Shit went sideways.”
“It ain’t nothing I can’t handle. I knew that was your intent from the beginning.”
“What about my sons and Kemi?”
“They’re safe. They always will be, whether I’m here or not. Hiroshi is dead. If she would have just told me the truth, he would have been gone.”
“She’s a handful. You equipped to deal with that?” Shadow needed five hands during their marriage but only had two.
“No disrespect, Shadow, but you ain’t got to worry about her ever again. She’s mine and it ain’t nothing I wouldn’t do to keep her safe,” he said, and Shadow smirked.
Kemi walked out of the closet dressed in a hot pink, two-piece shirt and short set. Promise walked in the room. Her face lit up at the sight of Kemi.
“Hey, Wifey!” Kemi smiled at her. Promise wrapped her arms around her.
“Get off me!” Kemi demanded as Promise’s grip tightened.
“No! Tell Shadow how you held my hand,” Promise taunted, causing Kemi to laugh.
“Shut up! You talk too much!” Kemi pushed her off with a frown on her face.
“Welcome to the family, nigga. I’m glad to have you, you see the shit I got to deal with.” Shadow stood and extended his hand to Akio.
“You a lucky man is what it looks like to me.” Akio slapped hands with him.
“Boy, please, this nigga ain’t having!” Kemi turned her lip up at Akio and Shadow who were amused.
“Get out of my house, Kemiya.” Shadow tossed his arm around Promise’s shoulder as they walked out of the room.
“I’m hungry.”
“What’s new, P?”
“You judging me?”
“Never I’ma just feed you like I always do.” He led her to the front door.
Shadow drove them to her favorite restaurant. They got out and went inside. They were sat right away since there wasn’t too many people waiting. Promise ordered their food as soon as their server walked up.
“Don’t you think it’s time for another baby?”
“I don’t know. I guess.” She shrugged it didn’t matter to her one way or another.
“You really don’t care?”
“No. I’m cool with that. I told you I would give you as many kids as you want. Plus, you’re a great dad.”
“I can’t believe my life at times, man. Kemi being alive with a child never even crossed my mind.
Then, I met you. The first time I saw you, I knew I had to have you in my world.
You were promised to me but you was gon’ be mine with or without the arrangement.
I got two sons, two crazy wives, this shit can’t get no better. ”
“You heard Kemi don’t make me call her and tell her what you said.” She laughed, making him laugh. Their server brought their drinks out. A short while later, their food was brought out.
“I’m glad she okay.” He admitted.
“Me too, she seems happy. Her and Akio are cute.”
