Property of Heart (Kings of Anarchy MC: Maryland #2)
CHAPTER ONE
– HEART –
Instead of getting dressed I should drag my ass to bed and get some rest. We just got back from a run and the ride from Sevrin’s Maryland chapter in Lexmore Beach to our town, Nowalk, is about five hours. A long five hours.
I didn’t have a bitch warming my back like my prez, Fatal.
Norie, his old lady, has a blood connection to Sevrin.
She’s his niece and the main reason she went along with us.
Karev, Lexmore Beach’s vice president, along with two of his club brothers, Shock and Levan, followed us home.
They packed some guns when we got here and left to head home about an hour ago.
My body might be tired, but my brain is still bouncing around with shit.
I have no clue why, other than the fact that over the past few months there’s been a huge change with Fatal claiming an old lady.
Maybe that’s what’s got me thinking with the reason for living or some shit, who knows?
I slide a few of my knives into their sheath on my belt, put my gun in my shoulder holster, grab my keys along with my phone and shove them into my pocket.
I shut the door and lock it. There’s a party tonight and I don’t want anyone ending up in my room. Not that it happened in the past...but it is why I always lock my damn door. Stepping into the hallway, I bump into someone and mumble an apology.
When I glance at the person I bumped into, all I see is huge tits.
Balloon-like tits. The kind that don’t bounce, and you can easily use them as a coaster for your beer.
Some like it, and I don’t judge. Though, I prefer the more natural look even if they are saggy or teabag-size for that matter.
They’re called fun-bags for a reason, not fuckin’ skippy balls.
“You didn’t see me there...now you do, don’t you,” she croons and flutters her eyelashes.
I stare down at her and wonder how she can fuckin’ flutter that shit while it looks like she glued a damn fur coat to her lashes. Dammit. I really should have gone to bed.
She tries to reach for me with her...yeah, fake as fuck nails...when I hold up my hand and grunt, “Not interested.”
Her shoulders sag, she pouts and is about to say something when my phone starts to ring. Thank fuck. I pull my phone from my pocket and spin away from the chick to head outside. Glancing at the number, I notice Karev is calling.
“Miss me already?” I chuckle, knowing the guy left here over an hour ago.
“Heart,” Karev grunts, his voice sounding tight. “I need to ask you a favor, from one Maryland VP to another, no questions asked.”
The fucker was in a good mood when he left, so whatever happened between then and now must be fuckin’ serious. No matter what Kings of Anarchy chapter a brother is from, we stand strong together.
It’s why I instantly reply, “What do you need, brother?”
“It’s my half-sister, Floraline. She called and I have no fucking clue what’s going on.
The call was cut off before she could explain.
I have her location and it’s in the middle of fucking nowhere.
Well, nowhere being Green Ridge State Forest. I’ll message you the coordinates. Can you let me know when you find her?”
“Floraline?” I murmur.
“Yeah. Floraline Callister, but she prefers Lina. Oh, and whatever you do, don’t give her a knife.”
Don’t give her a...what? “Come again?”
He releases a sigh. “I don’t have time for this, Heart.
I’m on my way back, I know your weapon of choice is a knife, and I also know that if you give one to Floraline shit won’t end well and she knows it.
I have no clue what trouble she got herself into, but we don’t need to bury bodies ’cause it’s been a long day already. Understood?”
Karev ends the call and I receive a message shortly after with the coordinates. I fire off a message of my own to let Fatal, my prez, know I’m leaving to do a favor for Karev. Just in case things go south, or if I need backup.
I swing my leg over my bike and fire it up. The direction of the coordinates are easy to follow. It takes me fifteen minutes to get there, and when I do, I notice a dark SUV and two bikes. All are abandoned. I park my bike further into the forest on the dirt road.
As soon as I kill the engine, I hear male voices, arguing and calling out for a cunt to get back. I pull out my phone and thumb off my coordinates to Fatal, letting him know where I am and if I contact him again, I’d need backup asap.
Something hits my back and I palm my gun as I spin around. I’m hit again but this time it’s right in the fucking eye.
“Motherfucker,” I growl, and grumble, “Going to poke Karev in both damn eyes when he gets here.”
“Oops. Sorry,” a female voice whispers and sighs in relief before she adds, “When is Karev gonna be here?”
Oops? What the actual fuck? I rub my eye and blink a few times to make the burning and what feels like sand exit my eye.
“Not soon enough,” I grit and put my gun away. “Get your ass on my bike so we can get the fuck out of here. And what the hell did you throw in my damn eye?”
The woman steps out of the bushes. “A dirt clod. I was trying to draw your attention and didn’t want to yell in case those assholes come back here. We should go. Now.”
I want to rip the cunt a new hole, but my words get stuck in my throat like the clod in my eye when I catch a glimpse of her standing before me.
The moonlight gives me enough light to see she’s a redhead.
Her hair is a wild mass and there are leaves and tiny branches stuck in there.
Those fucking eyes. They’re hazel if I have to guess, yet they seem gold.
“You’re not going anywhere,” an angry voice snarls from our right.
“What did you get yourself into?” I ask under my breath and quickly shoot off the message to my prez.
I shove my phone back into my pocket and palm my gun when she says, “Nothing. Seriously. Why the hell does everyone always blame me for shit? One moment I was in the back of my vintage shop, the next I woke up in the back of a van with a splitting headache. They also took my friend, and...I don’t think he’s alive anymore. ”
The question “why” is on the tip of my tongue when one of those fuckers steps closer and snarls, “Hey, dipshit, I’m talking to you. Why don’t you run along so the cunt can come back to us.”
I step in front of Lina and aim my gun. “Did you just call me a dipshit?”
“He called me a cunt. So, feel free to shoot him,” Lina snaps.
Two fuckers step onto the road and another one from the other side.
One is aiming a gun at me, and the others each have a knife in their hand.
Fuck Karev, he’s not here and I’m not sure I can kill ’em all before they are on us.
Which is why I reach for a knife and point it at the ground while I offer it to Lina behind my back.
At this point, I know I’ll be burying bodies anyway. So, I might as well let her have a little fun and help out. The knife is gone from my hand when the first guy takes a challenging step forward.
“We have no beef with you, man. She’s the one who has something she has no right to. We just need to have a little chat, so we know where she stashed it,” the idiot explains while he waves the gun as if it’s a damn dildo he wants up his ass.
“Heart, he’s right. We have no beef with you. We just want some information from the girl,” Digby, a fucker I recognize, states.
Digby’s father owns a pawn shop one town over. Lina mentioned she was in the back of her vintage store, which means she might have stumbled upon something that landed her ass into this shit.
“Just want some information, eh?” My voice stays calm, but on the inside, I’m getting really damn pissed. “It doesn’t seem like it from my point of view, and I’m guessing her friend wasn’t asked nicely either. Which makes me wonder...where the hell is her friend?”
Digby sighs. “This has nothing to do with you, or the Kings. Respect and all, but she’s in the wrong here.”
“She’s a fucking thief,” the other guy who is holding the gun snarls and takes a step forward.
I have no clue if Lina throws the knife first or if the fucker fires the gun...
but all hell breaks loose right then and there.
Three guys dive into the bushes while I squeeze the trigger.
I manage to hit one while Lina runs forward and goes to town on the guy with the gun.
The gun in question is in the dirt at his feet because she threw the knife in his shoulder.
The darkness and the forest allow the fuckers the perfect getaway.
Except for the one Lina is slaughtering.
No wonder Karev told me not to give her a knife.
Holy fuck. Instead of being sane enough to get a little freaked out about her killer instincts...
I’m actually more than a little turned on right now.
