Chapter 11

Chapter Eleven

Evelise

I come to feeling groggy, my face aching, and I realize we are still driving. Nausea hits, so I lean forward, and my body evacuates everything in it. The concussion has fucked with me, but it’s also the morning sickness I’ve been battling.

“What the fuck, Evelise? What are you doing?”

“I’m hurt; you knocked me out. I don’t feel so good.” I turn toward him in the driver’s seat, focused on the road.

“Do you know how much this car costs? I swear you’re going to pay the cleaning bill.”

“Okay, pull over and let me out. I’ll pay.”

“Never. I must marry you. I need the money.” The car begins slowing down, and I think he’s finally changed his mind when he pulls into a no-name motel off the side of the road.

He drives around to the back, and when he parks, it’s in front of a door with curtains that move slightly. Someone is in there.

Justin pulls the gun and points it at me. “You’ll listen, or I’ll kill you.”

He won’t; he said he needed me alive, but he could kill my baby if he shot me. I nod my head and wait for him to come around the side of the car to open my door. Justin grips my arm tight and drags me toward the motel room. The door opens, and there’s Paris.

“What the hell, Justin? You were supposed to take her to that man Kurti; he’ll kill you.”

“I can’t, I need her money. I’m in too deep with the Albanians. They’ll kill me before Kurti can even get to me.”

“No. You promised that you were done with her. You said we could be together. I won’t help you with this.”

“You have to let me go. Judge will kill you both for taking me.”

Paris whips her head back, her wide eyes boring into me. “Listen here, bitch. I didn’t want you here. The detective and that other guy said they would take care of you. I’ve been trying to get rid of you for years.”

“What other guy?” It’s important to learn as much information for Lucian as I can.

“Damn it, Paris. Shut the fuck up and sit down. We will be together, but I need to marry Evie. Her inheritance will solve everything. You don’t have enough, but she does.”

“But you promised. You said we could have a baby. You said we’d be rich and wouldn’t need her. I’ve put up with her for so long now,” Paris whines as she advances on Justin. He shoves me to the bed.

“I told you the only way I’d have money is through her. For me to gain access, she needs to be my wife. You’re just my mistress. I never loved you. You were a willing hole for me to bury my desire in because Evie never let me touch her.”

I try not to gag at his crass image. Paris doesn’t like it either. She attacks, smacking him across the face, sending his head whipping to the side.

“That’s it, bitch.” He holds up the gun between them, and she smacks it out of the way.

“Don’t you threaten me, Justin. I know all your secrets. I know how you and the guy got the knockoff chemicals and set up the MC. I know how you had Evie’s parents set up to be kidnapped and her grandmother killed before that asshole Judge got in the way. I know it all. You can’t get rid of me.”

“The fuck you say.” Justin pulls the trigger. Paris’ eyes get big as she looks down at her chest.

“Why would you do that to me?”

“You knew too much.” He fires a couple of more times before facing me. I don’t realize I’m screaming until Justin yells at me. “Shut the fuck up and get ready, I’m going to rape you.”

He advances on me as the door explodes inward. Lucian stands there, raising his gun as Justin raises his. Multiple discharges ring in my ear, and I scream again. As the air settles, my frenzied voice is the only sound. My hands cover my ears, and my eyes are shut tight.

“Sweet cheeks.” His soft words, then his hands on my face, are the only warning I need. I jump for Lucian, holding on for dear life.

“You came for me,” I say repeatedly.

“I did, baby. I’ll always come for you.”

“Wait…” I pull away. “Did he shoot you?” I search for bullet wounds but don’t see them.

“Nope, he didn’t get his gun up to fire before I did.”

“But I heard a couple shots.”

“That was me, Evie.” I turn my head to see Loco standing there.

“You’re okay? I was so worried about you.” I look around for Rusty and don’t see him. “Where is Rusty? Is he okay?”

“He’s fine. He’s outside keeping people back.”

Looking at Lucian, I say, “He was supposed to take me to a man named Kurti. He shot Paris.”

“Stop lying, you bitch,” Justin moans from the floor.

Finally, I’m calm enough to take in the damage to him. He’s shot in the shoulder, and blood runs from his crotch area.

“Why isn’t he dead?” I ask, wanting him no longer breathing so he can’t come after us anymore.

“He will be soon enough. Judge shot him in the crotch,” Loco chuckles.

“It’ll be okay, baby. Let’s get you to the clinic and checked over.” Lucian lifts me into his arms and carries me out of the room. “Rusty, you know what to do,” Lucian instructs, and when I look over to Rusty, he nods his head at me before his gaze focuses on Lucian.

“Yep, Prez, it’ll be taken care of.”

Lucian gently places me in his truck’s passenger seat, but instead of heading to the clubhouse, we go straight to Lach’s practice in town. He’s been asking me questions about my injuries and what happened.

“Baby, don’t you ever keep a secret like that from me again. You shouldn’t have gone off the property today,” Lucian growls without taking his eyes off the road. I realize he’s pissed, but he can’t force me.

“Lucian, you can control only so much. I need some control, too. I wanted to surprise you. I was having a mini leather jacket delivered to give you as a gift, along with a t-shirt I made, too.”

“Babe,” he grits out through clenched jaw.

“Don’t you ‘babe’ me.”

“I’m going to spank that ass of yours if you don’t stop arguing with me.” From the back seat, we hear multiple groans.

“Prez, please.” Loco shakes his head in exasperation.

“Come on, cuz, really.” Lach does the same.

We pull up to the practice, and Lucian turns toward me. “Don’t you move.” I stay put as the guys get out of the back.

There is still a lot of police and sheriff activity down by my shop, which frightens me, but also reminds me of something important. When Lucian lifts me into his arms, I search to see who else is around.

“Lucian, I don’t trust Chump. He knew that the detective was going to tranq Rusty and Loco.”

“They both said something about that. I’ll take care of it.”

“Okay.”

Lucian carries me into the practice and straight to the back. An open door reveals that Lach is waiting, his white coat covering his cut already.

“Loco, guard the door.”

“Got it, Prez.” He leaves, and I’m laid on the table.

Lach checks my face where I was hit. I explain about the nausea and vomiting. He then moves a machine close to us and clicks some buttons before telling Lucian to lift my shirt and pull my jeans down a bit.

“You need a female partner before any other exams start,” Lucian orders.

“I have a nurse.”

“No. You aren’t looking at my ol’ lady’s pussy. You got it.”

“Judge, be realistic. To get another physician out here quickly could cost us extra.”

“I don’t care. If Torch has his way, Ruby is already pregnant or will be soon. You’ll need her.”

“I’m not fucking hiring just any female doctor.”

“I will then.”

“Fine, I don’t care.”

“Oh, you will soon enough.”

“What the fuck does that mean?”

“I have an application on my desk right now for a Dr. Neighbors.”

I watch as the blood drains from Lach’s face.

“You wouldn’t fucking do that to me,” he bites out.

“Oh, I fucking would. She’s overly qualified for the position. She wants to open her own practice. She’s applying for a lease of an office not far from here. She’s the best physician for my girl.” Lucian smirks at Lach.

“She’s already here?”

“I don’t know.”

“This town isn’t big enough for two doctors.” Lach keeps fighting it, but even I realize that Lucian has already told her yes and plans to help her. I’m going to have to talk to him later to find out who this woman is.

“You’re a general practitioner, she’s an OB-GYN. She has done all the demographic studies. How a woman must drive over twenty minutes to Foster or an hour to Smithfield. Did you ever think of that?”

“I’ve delivered babies before.”

“Yes, but how many of those weren’t your patients but needed your help in an emergency. Besides, now that I know Evie here is pregnant, I’m glad I already signed off on the lease.”

“Fuck, Judge, you can’t do this to me.”

“Yes, I can. You need to get this shit settled once and for all.”

“No.” Lach turns his attention back to me. “Okay, Evie, this is going to be a little cold. If I can’t get a clear picture, we’ll have to wait until you go to Foster, where the practice there will have a probe available. I don’t think Judge would let me insert one into you.”

“Okay.”

He places the Doppler device on my stomach and presses harder until something finally shows on the monitor. “Okay, there is a baby, but we’re too early to get any more information. I’m going to refer you to Dr. Edgemont in Foster. She’s good and will check you out more in-depth.”

I look at Lucian, who shakes his head. “She’ll be seeing Dr. Neighbors. I’ll message her myself right now.”

“The fuck you say. That woman isn’t stepping foot in my practice and using any of my equipment.”

I sit up and take Lucian’s hand before I pat Lach’s. “How about you let me go home and rest, and if I have any problems, I promise that I’ll have Lucian take me to Smithfield.”

“Okay,” Lach acquiesces.

“I’ll still call her.” Lucian is so stubborn.

“Get dressed, Evie. If you need me, you know how to reach me.” He then points at Lucian. “You get the fuck out of my practice; I don’t want to speak to you for a while.”

Lucian helps me get dressed, and we leave with Loco tagging along.

“You piss off Lach again?” Loco asks. He must know what’s going on.

“Yep.”

“You told him.”

“I can’t keep her hidden much longer.”

“What did you do, Lucian?” I turn to look at him.

“What I had to. Don’t worry about it, it’s club business, baby.”
