CHAPTER SEVEN

– KAREV –

Lea hangs her head and the sight of it feels like a punch to the gut. I know Sevrin is right, and we’re doing this for her own protection. Still, it fucking bothers me.

“Let me show you to my room,” I rumble and hold out my hand.

She rises to her feet without accepting my hand. I release a sigh and open the door. Triton follows us as we walk through the hallway. Coming to a stop in front of my room, I unlock and open the door.

“Make yourself at home. Bathroom is over there; clean towels and shit are in there. My closet if you want a change of clothes or nap in my bed. The sheets are clean, only slept in it once,” I ramble and watch Triton’s hands flare up with red lightning.

He’s adjusting the spell to lock her in my room for now.

Deep down I know she wouldn’t kill any of my brothers, or Prez’s old lady for that matter.

Knowing who she is and looking at the situation with Blondie through her eyes?

Yeah, if the tables were turned and a fucker wanted to lick my fated mate’s cunt? I’d rip him apart too.

Triton walks out of the room. Lea’s standing near the bed and looks so fucking defeated.

“I’ll be back once I’ve discussed some shit with my prez,” I tell her.

No reaction at all. Releasing another sigh, I close the door. There’s no need to lock it due to Triton’s spell. Walking back to church, I find Sevrin sitting at the table.

“Close the door, this is only you and me for now,” he rumbles.

I do as he says and take a seat while I admit, “Her reaction to Blondie is one I’d have as well if the tables were turned.”

Sevrin crosses his arms over his chest and stares me down.

“Still doesn’t give her a get out of jail free card.

We don’t know shit about her, and clearly you can’t trust your own judgement.

You’re her mate and it’s already clouding your reasoning to see she basically committed plain murder of an innocent. ”

He’s right. I know he is, and yet I don’t want to admit it.

So, instead of continuing this discussion, I start another one by giving him some background information. “You know about my half-sister.”

He frowns at the shift in conversation and rumbles, “The one you mentioned a few days ago when this shit started about the coins? The one you have a picture of in your bedside table, so if anything happened, I should track her down and make sure she’s safe? That one?”

I shouldn’t feel agitated, but I do. There’s a reason I joined this MC when I moved away from my family.

One of them is the twisted shit that broke our family bond.

Adding a picture in my bedside table was for insurance.

I was the only one who has her back...until a few days ago when I made Heart, the vice president of the Nowalk, Maryland chapter, claim her.

“There’s a reason I only told you about it when I had to,” I start.

Sevrin waves his hand and states, “Because she’s human,” as a reason for understanding why I haven’t mentioned her until I had to when she was attacked.

“She’s human because her brother killed her in the fucking womb,” I snarl.

My prez’s eyes go wide. “Say what now?”

“Some supernaturals don’t find their fated mate, and instead they have a marriage forged for the sake of alliances and strong bloodlines.

” I shrug. “There’s no love, as it was with my parents.

I was barely eighteen when my father fucked the maid and got her pregnant.

She carried twins full-term, and when they were ready to be born something went wrong.

The maid died during childbirth. When they cut her belly open in an effort to save the babies?

One was fully fucking shifted and ripping his sister’s head off, almost succeeding too. Floraline shouldn’t have survived.”

Sevrin gapes at me. “Motherfucker. That’s why she’s human? So, she was born a hellhound...well, she once was a hellhound, but her brother stole her powers before she was born?”

I nod. “Yeah. Her own brother took her power to make himself strong enough to survive. I’m pretty damn sure he would have eaten his way out of his mother’s dead body if we hadn’t cut open her belly.

I wouldn’t have believed it if I wasn’t there to witness it with my own damn eyes.

Needless to say, my father banned both of them from our lives for different reasons. ”

“Floraline because she’s human,” Sevrin states. “Understandable when she’s not part of the supernatural world.”

“Yes, and the vicious hellhound because it was a bastard. A lower class one who should never have been born. A fucking disgrace according to my father.”

“Because he raised an alpha.” Sevrin rubs a hand over his face.

“So, for Alora to insult and dump Drexel because he told her he was a powerful hellhound, which he clearly isn’t? I’m pretty sure it tore up a shitload of anger from his past.”

Sevrin jumps up from his chair. “Wait a fucking moment. This Drexel guy your mate mentioned is your half-brother? Are you sure?”

“No, of course I’m not one hundred percent sure.

But do you really think there are a load of hellhounds with ego issues who are called Drexel?

” I grumble. “I kept track of both children as they grew up. I lost track of Drexel after a few years. All while Floraline came looking for her biological family herself when she was fourteen. We’ve kept our contact long distance because I can’t tell her anything about the supernatural world.

Though, I made sure to keep in touch. Which is why she reached out to me when she was in trouble. ”

Sevrin sinks back into his chair. “Thank fuck she did. Wait. Does this Drexel know you’re his half-brother? Or the fact that his half-sister is still alive and human?”

This is something I haven’t talked about in ages.

“I don’t think he knows anything about his past. My father made sure when he simply dumped him on the doorstep of a couple who couldn’t conceive.

Werewolf shifters. I kept an eye on him the first few years, but when he was twelve, he killed the couple and disappeared. ”

“Yeah, sounds like this fucker has a real charming personality,” Sevrin sarcastically states.

“I probably need to call Heart, let him know there still might be some possible blowback. Fuck. I really want to keep her out of this shit, but what if he finds out? She lives five hours away. You and I know about her, but what if he somehow finds out? Humans will be defenseless against that fucker,” I snarl.

Sevrin slowly bobs his head. “Agreed. Though, I think it’s too soon to reach out.

We need to make sure the fucker making waves for your mate’s family is the same Drexel.

If so, then we’ll fill in Heart, and think of something to make sure he puts his old lady on lockdown.

In the meantime, I’ll shoot Swade a message.

My niece’s father knows there’s more than just the human world.

I won’t give him any details, just letting him know to be alert for anything, and make sure he reaches out to us if something’s up. ”

“Smart.” I get to my feet. “I guess I’ll go check on my mate.”

“Good luck with that,” Sevrin snickers. “I had enough issues with mine when we were thrown together for the first time. Well, I handcuffed mine and shoved her in the basement. At least you gave her some wiggle room.”

I flip the fucker off and head for my room.

Triton falls in step beside me. “Let me know if you need me to expand on her living space. I mean, if you want to take her into the kitchen tomorrow morning for instance.”

I’m about to reply when the whole clubhouse starts to shake.

“What the hell is that?” I rumble.

Triton winces. “Your mate knocking on the magical walls I put in place.”

I jog the rest of the way to my room and swing the door open.

Lea is standing in the middle of the room and is...

fuck. I throw a glance in the direction of the bedside table to make sure...

and yes, now I know she’s indeed holding a picture of my half-sister.

There’s red smoke wafting from her and she looks furious.

Holding my hands palm up, I gently tell her, “Calm down.”

“Brother, those are two combined words you never want to say to a woman,” Tritan whispers from beside me.

Ignoring the fucker, I want to tell her whose picture it is when she snarls, “Who is this woman to you? And why have you written heart on the back of it? Are you in love with her?”

“Oh, fuck,” Triton grunts.

Again, I ignore him and step closer to Lea for her ears only. “Heart is the name of what we consider a fated mate of the woman in the picture. Heart is the vice president of the Nowalk chapter, he claimed my half-sister a few days ago.”

“Half-sister,” she muses and glances at the picture again.

The smoke disappears around her and a tiny smile tugs her face. “What’s her name?”

I release a sigh and throw a look over my shoulder at Triton before I tell her, “I’m going to explain everything. Triton, mind giving us a little privacy?”

“No,” Lea squeaks.

Now I’m the one glaring at her. “Why the fuck do you want him here?”

Lea places her hands on her hips. “Because I really need to pee and that idiot only gave me the use of your room, and only your room...which apparently doesn’t include the bathroom.”

Motherfucker.
