Chapter 29
CLUTCH - LOYALTY AND LIES
I grabbed my gun and ducked down, trying to assess what we were up against. The door opened behind me, and I heard Torch curse under his breath, and heard shouting from behind me.
Smoke was rising from the gatehouse, and I ducked beside one of our trucks. Ledger coming up beside me.
“What do we do?” he asked.
This had to be Razor. No one else would be stupid enough or cocky enough to hit us where we had the strategic advantage… not unless the person knew the compound layout and how we would react to a direct threat.
And we did. We reacted predictably. We pulled everyone into the clubhouse so all of us were under one roof. Then someone brought the fight to us.
“If this is Razor, he is going to assume we fortify the clubhouse and keep everyone inside.”
Torch crouched down beside us, “So what the fuck do we do?”
“We don’t know how many people are waiting for us if we all come running out guns blazing… but we don’t know what they have planned if we try to hold out in the clubhouse."
My mind was working through the different possibilities, none of them leading to a plan or a way out of this mess.
“Where’s Angel?” Looking around, I noticed he wasn’t with us.
Torch popped up trying to get a view of what was going on, and a bullet went flying into the truck window, glass exploding around us. “He’s guarding Mara like he is her personal kevlar vest.”
Ledger grunted beside me, “So the fuckers have someone who thinks he’s a sniper but can’t aim for shit.”
“We can’t use any plan that could be predictable; we can’t use anything Cypher might have on his network…”
Ledger swore beside me and fired off a couple shots in the direction of the threat.
Think, think, think…
What would Bex do?
She would think clinically, she would use their own tactics against them…
Shit… I looked up at one of the camera’s that was pointing in our direction…
I shot at the one camera, with Ledger grumbling “You are shooting in the wrong direction…”
“Lets get back inside, spray some bullets in different directions and then we go back into the clubhouse. I think I have a plan.”
Torch moved first shooting out the windows of a truck further into the parking lot, a shout came from that direction. Ledger moved to the front door shooting in the direction of the gates, and I followed, keeping my back to him and eyes in the direction of the last bullet that came our way.
When we all made it back into the clubhouse it was absolute chaos, Axel was arguing with Marisol who looked like she was about to shoot him.
Cypher tried to pull Meg behind him when the door opened and I watched as she pulled her arm away like his touch burned her yelling, “You don’t get to touch me anymore. ”
Cypher growled, “I don’t have time for this right now Meg. I am done with this petty shit, done with the distance... Nothing hap…”
She cut him off with a laugh, “Petty shit Cypher, fuck you. Do not touch me and do not worry about me. I do not believe a word that comes out of your mouth anymore, so save your breath.”
Then she stormed off to stand with Mara and the Doctors who were all huddled by the bar behind Angel.
“Fuck.” Cypher roared, pulling at his hair.
Angel saw me and moved our way, “What is going on?”
“Not sure, from what I can tell they hit the gate and are on the compound. I can't tell how many or who. But I have a feeling…. And I have an idea.”
Angel scanned the chaos of the room, looked back at his sister and then back at me.
“What are you thinking?”
“We need to act fast, disabling all the cameras is the first thing we need to do and turn off every phone, device. Anyway of tracking our movements.”
Cypher froze in place, his eyes moving to me, “You think I am compromised?”
I heard someone laugh in the background and then what sounded like Meg saying something like, “oh I bet he’ll believe Clutch about his little girlfriend…”
Angel Roared, “Everyone shut the fuck up.”
Then he gave a nod to Cypher who hesitated for a second, closing his eyes, when he opened them so many things were crossing his face. Like he was coming to terms with something or a realization had finally hit him hard. He moved to the table with his laptop and started working.
Angel looked back at me, giving me the floor, as Four moved up beside him. “Everyone turn off your phones or we put them all in one location. We give the women and doctors any of the vests we have for protection. Then we…”
I was interrupted by all our phones going off, a group message from the prospect at the gate.
“They have me and are coming in the front door, Razor wants an audience with the club.”
Everyone moved, backing the women behind the bar, pushing into a protective stance, guns drawn, tables flipped as protective barriers.
Then the door opened and Cage walked in, a look I wanted to wipe off his fucking face. He shot me a grin and said, “You shoot me and everyone behind me that you care about dies.”
I heard murmurs behind me and then in walked a few men I didn’t recognize, the five of them formed a line by the front entrance with Cage in the middle.
Then in walked a man dragging a small frame with him, a bag over their head. Then another man dragged what looked to be a woman with him. Then another. Then Razor walked in flanked by two other men I had never seen before, both with tattoos crawling up their necks.
Razor and the men dragging people with them wove in between the men already standing in a line. A vicious smile on his face. He scanned the room and I knew when his eyes landed on Mara because he winked at her and said, “Miss me baby?”
Angel growled, stepping up beside me.
Razor shot him a look laughing as he said, “Down boy. Before we get to a fun little game I have planned for the group…” He looked over the 3 people standing with bags over their heads, his hand gesturing to them dramatically, before he looked back at Angel.
“You know, you made it too easy to fuck with you. At first I was pissed you passed me over for VP. I thought I would fuck with you and then get gone… but you made it too easy… all of you.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Angel ground out.
Razor rubbed his hand over the scruff on his face scanning all of us, “I made friends over the years. People I helped, people who helped me. Made myself a lot of money too. I was going to walk away. But you were so blind, so stupid. That it made staying and messing with you, too tempting. You all have blind spots, you are all so arrogant thinking that the Dawnbreakers are untouchable… well think again… because I have touched all of your lives in one way or another… Some more than others.”
The fucker shot me a wink after that and I was ready to end things right there.
But it was Four who spoke up, “You are outnumbered Razor, I think we should just put an end to this right now.”
Razor laughed at him and then gestured to one of his men who stepped forward shoving the smaller body in front of him.
“You would say that Four… Four Smash… big bad Four who is the far better VP then me right…” Razor sighed and smiled at Four, “But I have a game planned and I think we will start with you.”
The room fell silent as Razor walked over and grabbed the bag over the smaller body's head, pausing to look at Four. “See this club spouts some pretty haughty shit, loyalty, brotherhood, protection… family. Blah, blah, blah… Ohhh…” His eyes locked on me for a moment, “I fucking loved Bex’s little speech, man did she have it right. I mean it kind of ruined a few things I had planned because she had us all figured out… but she was right… That is why I had to shut her up before I could plan my exit.”
I clenched my hand around my gun, working out how fast I could shoot, how many I could get to before they got to me. How fast my brothers would follow my lead…
Razor sighed and shrugged, like talking about hurting my wife was no big deal. Like all the hurt and pain he’d caused was just a joke.. Just another day. “But I digress, can someone give me a drumroll?”
Angel growled and one of Razor's idiot men actually put his gun in his waistband and attempted a drumroll sound, slapping his hands on his legs.
Razor scanned the crowd and his eyes locked on Four again, “For the club who has their heads up each other's asses, I thought a fun game of loyalty and lies… A game.. Or maybe an experiment. Let’s see how this plays out.”
Razor pulled the bag up and gasps echoed behind me, because standing there was Four’s son, Cal.
