Chapter 13
THIRTEEN
PYRO
Fuck me. I wasn’t intending to go so far with Carina, but damn it, I couldn’t stop myself. Taking her, being inside her, fucking her, it was something I won’t forget.
I definitely didn’t expect the two of us to complete the mating bond that seals her life to mine.
I certainly don’t regret it because it was the best damn thing I ever experienced. Sex is something I’ve enjoyed since the moment I knew what my cock could do. It was a simple act that we all did to get off and relieve tension.
With Carina, it’s different. Something entirely out of this world.
Carina is beautiful in every way possible. I’ve seen the tattoo on her arm of my dragon, but the one aimed at her pelvis surprises me. It’s the same dragon, and its fire aims for her pussy.
My dragon seemed pleased at seeing it.
Hell, I’m pleased by it. By all that is Carina.
This morning, I didn’t want to leave her in bed by herself. I wanted to stay curled around her. Unfortunately, I had no other choice. The club was meeting this morning to go over some things Boot found, according to the intel he saw throughout the night. The asshole never fucking sleeps.
Grabbing a cup of coffee from the bar, I make my way toward the room we hold church in. It’s a sacred space to my brothers and me. No one, not even prospects, unless invited, is allowed in here. Only those who wear the patch get past those doors.
I step into the room to find most of my brothers already in here. I take my place next to Fire and nod to the others. “This better be worth getting out of bed at this hour of the morning.”
None of us is an early riser unless we have to be.
“Prez wouldn’t have called us in here if it weren’t,” Flame remarks, grumbling.
“We know,” Fire grunts and takes a sip of his coffee.
Heat is the last to come in, along with Boot.
I glance at Heat as he throws himself in his chair and lets out a rough breath. “Let’s get this the fuck over with. Boot, tell everyone what you found first thing this fuckin’ morning,” he says and takes a large gulp of his coffee.
“I was able to trace the call Kinley made to Heat,” Boot announces.
“Where?” Fire demands.
“Her call came from Shiverborn,” Boot announces and goes on to explain that it bounced around several areas in the general area before he was able to zero in on an exact location.
“Where in Shiverborn?” I feel all eyes turn to me. I know myself that my voice isn’t right. My brothers in here know of Shiverborn, and that’s where my mother lives, along with her cult.
“That part I couldn’t quite get a read on, but I know the call was near Trent Peak,” Boot says and pulls up a map on the large screen on the far wall.
“There’s a shit ton of caves surrounding and on Trent Peak. They could be in any one of those caverns.”
“We can go there, make a launch party out of it, find her, and finally bring her ass back where she belongs,” Brimstone grinds out.
“If they’re there, it won’t be easy. You have to have permission to be on those peaks, meaning they have permission from my mother.” The hatred I have for the woman fills my voice, and each person in the room feels it. “Luckily, because I share her blood, I can go without her permission.”
“You’ll need us with you, brother,” Heat points out. “Pyro, you can’t go alone. You of all people know that.”
Oh, I know it. If I go alone, my mother is sure to trap me there.
It’s one of the reasons I’m fucking glad Carina ended up giving up going there for her article.
It’s not something I’d want to keep her from doing, but I also really don’t want her there without me.
If I had it my way, she’d never go there cause I sure as fuck don’t want to go anywhere near Shiverborn.
“We go to find them, and we do it right, bring Kinley back where she belongs,” I tell Heat and look around the rest of the table. “I suggest Inferno and Clay come with me, with three others who could ride. We’d get there faster. Get in and out, hopefully without detection.”
“I’ll be one of the riders,” Brimstone declares.
“I’ll also be going,” Heat announces.
“Same here,” Fire states, pounding a fist on the table.
“Y’all need more men with you,” Shooter pipes up. “Y’all shouldn’t go without more men. What happens if those assholes have more manpower or the backing and protection of witches?”
“I don’t blame Shooter for his concerns. It’s a real thing for us to think about.
“Well, you might want to hold off on going to Shiverborn for right now,” Boot says, eyes on his computer.
“Why?” Brimstone demands.
Boot’s eyes come to me, then look to Inferno, then back to me. “There’s someone at the gates looking for her.”
“What?” Inferno and I say at the same time.
I get up out of my seat, already heading for the door. No one should be here. No one should know where she is.
“I don’t know who it is, but they’re telling the prospect they’re here for Carina,” Boot says, pulling up the feed to the cameras set up at the gates.
Immediately, I recognize the dragon within the man. Without having to see him in person, I can tell exactly what he is. My own dragon doesn’t sit well with me at the knowledge that another dragon is here to see our mate.
“The dragon mark,” Inferno growls.
“Don’t let him on the property,” I tell Boot and leave the room, knowing my brothers are following me.
I don’t give a damn who this fucker is. He’s not getting anywhere near Carina.
“What’s going on?” my mate asks from the bar where she’s sitting with Evelin and Herja, drinking coffee, looking like she just got out of bed.
I like the sight of her in one of my hoodies and leggings. I don’t need the hoodies, but I wear them to fit in around the area. The last thing I need is for her to know another dragon is here for her. She could very well leave me for them.
“Stay in here and don’t try to follow,” I order without stopping my pursuit of the doors.
“What the hell?” I hear Carina snap and call out my name, but I’m on a fucking mission to get rid of the asshole who showed here.
No one is going to take Carina from me. They’ll be in for the fight of their lives if they so much as try.
