Chapter 35
Apple kept his gaze on the screen. Wild and his team were moving toward the compound, their plans in motion.
Apple had his eyes on a feed ten miles away from the compound, tracking movement from a settlement where men who were soldiers for the compound lived with their women.
The compound only housed the highest in the leadership of the terrorists' cell.
The lowly men who fired guns and fought hand-to-hand combat weren't a part of the inner circle.
They were grunts who, in the grand scheme of things, didn't matter.
He hadn’t seen anyone leave any of the buildings in town, which was important. If the men left home and headed to work, Wild and his team would be in trouble. It was late, and they were probably asleep, tucked in for the night.
“Everything looking good here,” Squat said.
That made Apple feel better. Squat was watching the compound, looking for activity.
If there was activity, they would be ready for Wild’s team.
That would be difficult. If they slept, then Wild and his team would go in and take them down without any resistance.
They needed identity confirmation, otherwise they would just blow up the compound, make it look like an accident.
They would still catch the compound on fire, but first, they had to kill everyone inside.
Apple picked up his coffee and took a sip as he kept this eyes on the screen. At first he thought it was his eyes being tired, then he realized it was actual movement.
“I’ve got something,” Apple said.
“How many?” Sharp asked.
Apple counted. “Fifteen.”
“Shit,” Jay said.
“Just great. They’re up and moving,” Squat said.
“I’ll inform,” Sharp said before he started speaking on coms to inform Wild and his team they should expect trouble.
Apple wished he was there to help the SEAL team, but he was here, in Coronado. All he could do was keep Wild informed and give them any suggestions he could come up with. He just hoped they could provide enough help with overwatch to keep them alive.
