Chapter 10 #2
“I was here with my friend, but she ditched me for some guy.” I add a little whine to my voice to really play up a drunk-bimbo act. “But I wasn’t ready to go home yet.” I glance over my shoulder at him and bite my lip in a seductive way.
“Is that so?” I nod like a bobblehead. He looks up and around the room before leaning down and whispering in my ear.
“Come with me, baby. It’s a bit loud in here.
” He nods to the back door, making me smile and nod my head with excitement.
Oh, this is too easy. He probably thinks I’m just so dazzled and amazed by him that I’m melting into a puddle of pure awe.
Cue another eye roll, please.
He gives me a wicked smirk before grabbing my hand and pulling me along.
I resist a little, making it seem like I’m stumbling from all the alcohol in my system, but it’s all a part of the job.
He tosses open the door, and I’m barely through the frame before he is shoving me up against the wall, face diving in to kiss and suck at my skin.
So gross. I attempt to push him back a little because no way in hell do I want his hands or lips on me like this.
“Someone might see us.” I look around, like that is my actual concern.
Well, it is, but not in the way he might think.
“No one will see us. It's fine, baby.” He steps into my space again, hands gripping my hips. “Now show me how wet that cunt of yours is for me.” One of his hands reaches for the hem of my dress, making me press once more on his chest.
“Can we at least move closer to the shadows?” I don’t bother waiting, slipping from his grabby hands as I head further down the alley. The place smells like trash, but I can’t focus on that. I have a feeling I won’t be able to take my work home today.
“What’s wrong, baby?” he says from behind me, making me smile to myself. The idiot doesn’t even realize he is being led into the shadows for more than a good time. “Did you think you could just tease me and not give me a taste of that pussy of yours? Do you know who I am?”
Well, this is going to be a lot shorter than I wanted. “Do you always ignore when a girl says no, or is it just when they are 16?” I ask once we are far enough away. His head jerks up from my chest to my eyes.
“The fuck are you talking about, bitch?” he sneers, but I just widen my smile.
“Miguel Cruz.”
“So, you know who I am. You know not to fuck with me. I don’t know what game you’re playing at, bitch, but I think it’s time you get on those knees of yours and suck my dick to apologize. He grips his junk, and this time I don’t hold back the gag.
“Yeah, that’s not going to happen, but you can answer a question for me. How does your father know Wesley Shaw?”
“You stupid fucking cunt.” He jerks forward faster than I thought he could and backhands my face.
My head snaps to the side before colliding with the brick wall behind me.
I feel my skin break open at impact, causing anger to flare in my veins.
“You really think they can send a pretty little thing like you to get information from me. I’m going to teach you a good lesson before sending you back to whoever you work for.
” I’m already reaching for my thigh when he grips my hair and yanks my head back.
I yelp at the sudden pain of the stupid glued-on wig, and it rips at my actual scalp.
“You hit like a bitch,” I hiss. When suddenly I’m tossed forward, I’m ready this time.
I stumble forward a few steps before swinging around, blade in hand, and striking out.
My blade slices across his chest, cutting open his shirt, as blood starts to bloom and drip down his exposed skin.
He stares down in shock, giving me the opening I need.
I lunge forward and stab him in the neck.
His eyes fly wide open as he starts to choke on his own blood.
A feral smile lights up my face as blood leaks down my arm.
This time I’m leaning in. “I just wanted information, but you had to be difficult and ruin my fun-filled night. You deserved far worse, but as they say, karma’s a bitch.
Yanking the blade out, he reaches up to cover his wound, but he has already lost too much blood.
In the next second he drops to the ground in a loud thump of flesh; I sigh in annoyance.
Why are they always ruining my fun?
Fuck! I didn’t even get the information I needed!
“Well, this blows, but I better get to work.” I lean down over the still-warm body and rip open the rest of his shirt, surveying my new canvas.
I start at the top-left corner, tracing the K, then the A, but before I can get to the R, the back door of the club swings open and bangs against the wall, making me freeze.
“Miguel?” Shit, I know that voice.
“Cut the shit, asshole. We need to head back soon.” And that one sounds familiar too. Were these two the two guys I couldn’t make out in the corner? I know X said they might do business with Miguel's dad, but their buddies?
Oh, maybe I will kill O.
I hear footsteps before O calls out for Miguel again, this time closer.
Shit. Time to put my acting skills to the test. I quickly slip off my holster and hide it under a pile of trash.
My heart is breaking at leaving them out here all alone and in the cold.
I’ll come back for you, babies; I promise.
Okay. Ready, set, go.
I draw in a shaky breath and force my mind back to the night I turned sixteen.
The memories hit like a tidal wave, rushing in without mercy, and a sob tears free before I can stop it.
I clap a hand over my mouth too late—blood smearing across my skin, mixing with the fresh tears spilling down my cheeks.
Just like I knew they would, footsteps thunder toward me.
And the moment they’re close enough to hear it, I unleash a scream.
“No! No! Please! No!”
“What the fuck?”
“Fuckkkkk.” I hear shuffling and I start to kick and sob louder. “Hey. Hey. We’re not going to hurt you. We need to know what happened. "Who did this?” I don’t say a word, just continue to kick and scream that I don’t want to die.
“Fuck Harris; shut her up. We don’t need witnesses.
” I scream louder knowing exactly what is about to happen.
I’m starting to think this was the wrong move.
Just as the thought to fight back and get the hell out of dodge crosses my mind, the butt of a gun strikes me over the head.
I crumble like a ragdoll. My vision goes blurry and my head pounds as I slump to the ground.
"Shit, I’m sorry, sweetheart, but until we get some answers, you are coming with us.
” There is a long pause as my vision starts to fade.
“O, call Roman and let him know we have a problem.”
Roman? Could it be Roman Shaw?
Well, maybe this night isn’t ruined after all. That’s the last thought I have as arms lift me from the cold ground and against a warm chest. The scent of wild earth and sandalwood fills my nose, giving me a sense of calm right before everything goes black.
