Chapter 19

Case

Where's Lyla?

The sun shining brightly through the window wakes me up and I groan. It’s too fucking bright for this shit. Fuck!

Rolling over, I pull the blanket up and throw it over my head. Taking a deep breath my eyes snap open and I jolt out of bed, stumbling a bit. Lyla. Where is she? Grabbing on to the wall I steady myself and wipe the sleep from my eyes. Fuck, I need something for this headache! Shit!

Leaving the room I walk down the steps and into the kitchen.

Opening the cabinet I get what I need and grab a bottle of water, chugging it down.

Now, where the fuck is my phone? Looking around the living room then the foyer I don't see it anywhere.

Bending down I grab my pants from last night and check my pockets.

Bingo! Pulling it out, I light up the screen and see all the missed calls I have along with numerous voicemails.

Hitting the button, I put it on speaker and listen as I sit on the couch.

“Case, please call me back or meet me at the house. Please let me explain. You deserve the truth, even if it ruins what we had just please hear me out.” She pleads and I growl but the voicemail doesn’t end.

I can hear the rain pouring in the background while she’s driving.

“Oh my god!” she screams and my heart drops as commotion and glass shattering rings out.

What the fuck? My hands begin to shake and anger radiates through my chest and limbs the more I listen.

“Someone? Anyone? Please help me!” she cries out, then I hear footsteps crunching against the gravel or maybe it’s glass.

I’m not entirely sure. “No, no, no!” she yells and my hand grips my phone tightly.

Someone ran her off the road? Was that the accident from last night? No! It can’t be!

Getting up from the couch as I continue to listen to the shuffling of the phone, I grab my keys and leave the house.

A door screeches open and she screams. .

“No, let me go.” and he laughs. I clench my jaw as I ball my hands into fists around the phone.

“I told you Angel, we weren’t finished yet!

” he growls at her and the line goes dead.

Someone took her! That fuck Kenneth! He is the only one I know that calls her Angel.

That fucking note he left called her just that.

How the fuck am I going to find him? I’ve got nothing to go on.

“Fuck!” I roar, dropping my phone and pounding my fists against the roof of my car.

“He took what is mine! That sick motherfucker. I’ll kill him.

I’ll fucking burn his body alive if he hurt a hair on her perfect little head.

So fucking help me god!” I yell, picking up my phone then get into my car, starting her up.

I have no idea where the fuck I’m going but I need to see if her car is still at the crash site.

I need to see the damage. So I pull out of the driveway and head toward the highway, trying to remember exactly where the accident was last night.

I do remember that it was before the exit toward home so maybe if I drive two exits down and head back to the house I’ll see something.

Anything at this point. I don’t know how finding the crash site is going to help me but I have to do something.

Driving up then down the highway I finally see the track marks.

I put my hazards on and pull over, getting out of the car quickly.

I follow the tire marks in the grass then see the glass and her belongings in the ditch.

Climbing down, I slide in the fresh dirt and my hand gets cut up in the leftover glass.

I stand and shake my hand out, wiping them off on my pants.

I look around and see her purse and phone laying in the rubble.

When I passed here last night they must’ve taken her car, that's the only thing I can think of.

Picking up her stuff, I head back to my car and plug in her phone.

I scroll through her contacts to see if Kenneth is in there but he isn’t.

Fuck! Who else would know about this guy?

What was her friend's name? Shit! I’m really not good at this.

But then something dawns on me. I grab my phone and scroll down and hit call.

“Hello, Mr. Knight. How can I help you?” Colette asks.

“Hey, Colette. Your girl Mercedes is missing. Do you know about a man named Kenneth?” I ask and she gasps.

“Wait. How do you know Mercedes is missing?” She asks and I take a deep breath.

“Lyla is my step sister. I didn’t know she was Mercedes until last night. We got into an argument. I stormed out and she never came home. She left me a voicemail of her getting into a wreck and the man who calls her Angel took her.” I tell her.

“Come to the house. I will help you get her back.” She says ending the call.

I place my phone down and get back on the highway.

Hope fills my chest as I head to Velvet Veil.

I really hope she has the information I need.

Otherwise I’m afraid Lyla will be gone forever.

She can’t be. I don’t accept that fate for her or for us.

I need to find her and I’ll use every resource I have to do so.

But first, let’s see what the Madame has for me.

Pulling up to the house, I get out and walk right through the front door. Colette is pacing the front room I assume waiting for my arrival.

“Oh, thank god. Come with me.” She says walking towards her office.

I follow behind and enter the room shutting the door behind me.

I take the seat opposite her and she hands me a folder.

“Normally, this goes against the NDA you all signed and I could get into legal trouble showing you this but I really don’t give a shit.

” She states and I nod, opening the file.

“Did she tell you about Kenneth?” She asks me and I shake my head.

“No. Like I said over the phone. I just found out last night that she was Mercedes. So you can imagine my shock that I’ve been sleeping with my stepsister but that doesn’t matter.

He left her a note that’s how I know it is him.

On top of the voicemail and him calling her Angel. ” I answer and she nods.

“Very well. He’s dangerous and obsessed with her but it’s not my story to tell. I will leave that for her. Everything you need is in that file but you didn’t get it from me. Understood?” She says sternly and I nod.

“Thank you Collette. I appreciate it,” I say, getting to my feet.

“Bring our girl home and please Mr. Knight. Stay safe. He’s not stable and I’m not sure what he is truly capable of.” She says, her face litters with concern and fear.

“I will. Again—thank you. Once she is home safe I will call you.” I tell her and she nods, showing me out.

Leaving Velvet Veil, I get to my car and open the trunk taking out the small safe and placing it on the passenger seat of my car. I open the folder and look through the photos of him. He’s the guy that grabbed her at one of my games. I knew something was off about him. Fuck!

Shutting the file, I start my car and enter his address into my GPS. It’s time to get my girl and teach this motherfucker a lesson.
