Chapter 41

CHAPTER 41

S omething was wrong. My teammates were screaming and celebrating, but unease prickled down my spine. Crew and Jackson swung arm-in-arm, belting out the BU fight song, rallying the rest of the team to join. The team threw Gatorade like champagne, and Coach Grimes cracked a rare smile. My trepidation held me back from celebrating. Pushing a rookie off my arm, I went to my locker.

Maci texted before the game started, saying she would meet me outside the locker room afterward. Pulling up the tracking app on my phone, I furrowed my brows when her location wasn’t in the BU arena. Her little blue dot was moving like she was driving down Main Street.

I dialed Maci’s number and waited as it continually rang. It went to voicemail and my stomach sank. “Jackson!”

Jackson tore himself away from the team and crashed down onto the bench next to me. “You ready to celebrate?!”

Shaking my head, I showed him my phone. “Where would your sister be going?”

“Dude, did you put an air tag on my sister or something?”

I snorted, “Or something. ”

“Bold…but I have zero clue. You sure she isn’t meeting you at Hockey House?”

“No, we planned to meet here.”

Jackson’s face grew serious. “What the fuck do you mean?”

“I have a bad feeling about this. Things have been great for Mace lately. She wouldn’t flake on me, not tonight.”

“What do we do then?” Jackson undressed, his determination to help clear.

I rubbed my jaw and considered Jackson’s ability to handle my true colors. “Do you trust me?”

Jackson stopped and locked eyes with me. “With my life, man.”

“Come on, I know how we can find her.”
