Chapter 8 #3

I stop as Dr. Walsh says my name, waiting for his next words. I’m so angry I’m practically vibrating. The woman on the bed, our scent matched omega, is losing a baby because some assholes raped her.

“I’m going to sedate her so she doesn’t wake up and panic.

She needs a ton of fluids, antibiotics, and blood work to see what’s going on inside of her.

I’m also going to do a transvaginal ultrasound to determine how far along her miscarriage is once I have her cleaned up.

I need to have some things delivered here while I work.

Also I didn’t think to bring thick pads or changes of clothing. Will you order it for her?” he asks.

“Absolutely, Doc. Please let me know if you find that you need anything else.”

“I will. She’s going to be bleeding for a while. It’s her body doing what it needs to,” he says. “It’s better if she’s not awake during this. I’m glad you found her in time.”

“Could she have bled out?” I ask, taking a deep breath to calm myself. The doctor has mentioned twice that he’s going to sedate her, and I think he may be just as frazzled to see how rough she looks.

There’s a living horror vibrating through my body, and nowhere for me to direct it. I didn’t call the police not because I forgot, but because I want to personally deal with the people who hurt my scent match.

It doesn’t matter that we’ve never met before, every nerve in my body is screaming for me to keep her safe.

“If you hadn’t found her with how fragile she is? Yes, it wouldn’t have been long before she died from infection and dehydration,” he admits.

Swallowing hard, I walk out of the room, my hand grabbing Troy’s despite the blood on it. He doesn’t say a word as we walk into the kitchen, and we passed Silas in the hallway already bringing the items Dr. Walsh asks for.

“I ordered what she needs,” Lyle says, putting the phone on the counter. “I’ll get you and Troy clean clothes. Troy…stay the night with us?”

“I plan to. I don’t think I could leave knowing she’s here. I’m at a loss right now on what to do.”

Sleep isn’t going to be happening tonight, not when I want to sit my ass in the hallway and watch her.

“Exactly what you’re doing,” Lyle tells him. “We wait for her to wake up and see what she can tell us.”

I hip bump Troy to the sink to wash his hands, and Lyle leaves to get us clothing while I scrub up to my elbows with soap. There was so much blood that can only be vaginal blood since it's so thick along my skin, it makes sense she’s having a miscarriage.

I just didn’t have all the pieces of the puzzle to be able to determine that, and I’m even more grateful for Dr. Walsh. He’s seen a lot of shit as the personal doctor for the Accetta family, I’m happy to have him in our corner now.

“How am I supposed to leave her in the morning?” Troy asks brokenly as he half-heartedly scrubs his hand.

“You remember what you told her. We are the best people to take care of her right now. Go to practice, work off the anger we all feel, and then come right back here to us. Dr. Walsh will stay with her for as long as needed, and maybe we’ll finally know her name tomorrow.”

“I don’t even know my omega’s name,” he breathes, shaking his head. “I take back what I said.”

The change of subject is so fast I have to take a second to shift gears. “About what?” I ask.

“I want the heads of the men who did this, East. She was so broken. The way she begged to die, no one should ever feel like that. What the fuck has she gone through?”

“All things we won’t know until she trusts us enough to tell us. This will all take time.”

“I’m going to be gone for days soon,” he rasps. “I’ll miss all of that time with her.”

When alphas find their scent match, it can be an instant change of their body chemistry. All they care about is their omega, and nothing else matters. Lyle, Silas, and I have been waiting a long time for this, but so has Troy, even if he doesn’t realize it.

“We’ll tell her about you,” I promise. “If she’s not awake while you’re here, we’ll make sure she understands why.

You have to play to stay in Savannah. If you wanted to throw away your career, we’d understand, but I don’t think it’s your time yet, Troy.

You fucking love hockey. That girl is going to have a long recovery from whatever the fuck happened to her.

“You’ll have time to be a part of it.”

As he dries his hands, I notice they tremble, but I don’t comment on it.

“It just means more video calls, Troy. We’ll make sure you get to talk to her, okay?”

We’re all getting ahead of ourselves. She could want nothing to do with us and reject our asses. I wince as I catch the clothes that Lyle tosses at me with my clean hands and strip so I can change.

“We can’t overwhelm her,” Silas says, leaning against the wall as he watches Troy and I change.

“Always reading my thoughts,” I murmur. “You’re right…I’m just quietly freaking out.”

“Really? You seem like a pillar of calm,” Troy grunts sarcastically.

“Are we planning to hole up in the hallway?” Lyle asks knowingly.

“Yeah. I’m going to do some digging on this girl,” I decide.

My gun and holster is in my hand as I walk in my sweatpants to the living room to lock it up in the gun case.

“I don’t know if I’ll find anything, but at the very least, I may be able to discover who those guys are.

I’m going to pull property deeds for ranch houses near the warehouse. ”

“Your brain is so fucking sexy,” Silas says, though there’s no humor in his words as he grabs some water bottles before disappearing down the hallway.

“I just need something to do,” I grumble, following my pack. I firmly think of Troy as pack, even though we’re still dating. Things are going to get really fucking complicated but we meant what we told Troy months ago.

We are end game, even when things get rocky and complicated as fuck. The door is closed to the bedroom as I sit next to Troy, and I glance at Silas with an unasked question in my eyes.

“He has to remove her clothes to treat her,” he says softly. “He wanted to preserve her modesty.”

Lyle checks his phone for the order he placed for clothing and pads and smiles grimly. “Our order is coming in the next five minutes. This virtue they call patience is for the goddamned birds.”

“Amen,” Troy grumbles as I open up my computer to begin my search.

“To answers and maybe some justice,” I sigh, my fingers beginning to click over my keys.
