Chapter 39
CHAPTER
THIRTY-NINE
ALISA
Worry and anger churn in my stomach as I glare down at Mitch Ancherson. We don’t know yet if he’s responsible for Troy’s disappearance but the man can’t stop grinning. He doesn’t appear particularly concerned that we kidnapped him out of his office.
My alphas gagged and hog tied him before using the service elevator to the garage. It dropped us off further away from our vehicle, but Silas jogged out and went ahead of us to bring it around. They’re very organized, and Mitch is very much fucked.
He’s simply too dumb to know it yet.
My pack is keeping it together, but I can feel Lyle and Silas’ fear. I’m struggling not to let it amplify mine, but it’s really fucking hard.
“I thought interrogations happened in police precincts,” Mitch says. The gag is now gone, as are the zip ties. In place of the ties is thick, chafing rope that is looped through two rings built into the concrete floor.
This warehouse is my pack’s slaughterhouse, and it’s ironic that I added my own blood to these concrete floors months ago. For such dapper gentlemen, my silver haired daddies don’t fucking play well with scumbags.
“You’re special,” I tell him. “You’re not an angel, and you’ve already fucked with my pack once before.”
“That wasn’t personal,” he laughs. No one else cracks a smile and Easton makes a show of bringing multiple carts with different tools closer to our prisoner. “Come on, you’re not scaring me. You’re upstanding members of society. Lyle is running for fucking mayor!”
“And?” Lyle asks. “Are you trying to tell me there are people in our government who don’t do bad shit? That’s what you should be laughing at, Mitch, not us. What did you talk to Troy about?”
“You expect me to answer questions like this? My wrists and ankles are bound like we’re in some kind of fucked up dungeon.”
“Alpha, his shoes,” I whisper, moving over to the carts Easton rolled in.
My voice is liable to begin cracking from the emotions inside of me, and I know my alphas are paying close attention.
Silas pulls off Mitch’s fancy shoes and socks without hesitation, showing me another reason why I love him.
“We’re in a hurry here, so let’s go for pain without too much bleeding. ”
I pick up a pair of jumper cables and Easton smirks at me as he drags out two car batteries from the bottom of the cart.
“Your brain is so sexy,” he breathes. “Know how to use those?”
“Lars showed me,” I reply. I don’t have a license, but I can jump a car and change its tires. Figures my vehicle education would be a bit ass backward.
“What is that? I can’t see!” Mitch says. Easton’s body is in the way, and I don’t see any reason to tell him he’s a better door than a window. “I didn’t do anything.”
“Are you sure?” I ask, digging deep for the things my brother taught me when I was thirteen. He was jumping a car for one of my father’s men and figured he’d show me how. It’s something I haven’t thought about in a long time and seems bittersweet to do so now.
Easton nods as I place the clamp around the correct terminals, watching as I work.
“Do it,” he says, watching as I clamp it on Mitch’s big toe. “I’m going to go get a jug of water while you contemplate your life, Mitch. For now, nothing will happen even while you’re hooked up. It’s up to you if that changes.”
“It’s just a little spark,” he scoffs.
My lips twitch because these belong to high powered vehicles. My alphas don’t back down when it comes to getting themselves good toys.
“So what did you talk about?” I ask. “I’ve been wanting to practice skinning a man alive. You made the mistake of fucking with a mafia daughter’s scent match, asshole.”
“I’m so scared. You’re too tiny to do anything to me,” he snorts.
“He came up to tell me he didn’t ride some girl’s dick and cheat on you.
As you saw at my little party, even good men will fuck someone else with incentive.
They could have fought against the drugs.
I was testing them for a friend and you all failed beautifully. ”
No. I blink slowly, only knowing one person who enjoys her fucked up drugs in Savannah.
Easton moves the clamp to the battery because we weren’t fucking with him, and moves Mitch’s feet so they’re both flat on the floor.
It’s a tight fit due to the rope, but he manages it.
I take the water from Easton and step back, making sure I’m not going to step in it before pouring the water on his feet.
Easton pushes the battery so that it’s in the puddle and shrugs, moving to the cart to grab the heavy gloves to disconnect the battery when we’re ready.
Mitch screams as his body convulses and I watch with a sigh.
“It’s frustrating when people don’t listen, isn’t it, baby?” Lyle asks.
“It is,” I say. “He’s going to be a dick about this.”
“Of course he is,” Easton says, opening one of the clamps to disconnect the flood of electricity.
“You motherfucker!” Mitch screams.
“Talk, or I’ll do worse,” I threaten.
“I didn’t do fuck all to Troy! I told him he was fired and he left, that’s it.”
“Again,” I grunt. “I think we might need Doc.”
“He’s on the way.”
“I’ll die before I tell you anything else,” Mitch says. “Let me go, omega!”
His bark makes me dig my fingernails into my palms and shudder as I force it away. My alphas have been working with me to break out of barks because my brothers can’t control themselves, but it’s not exactly a comfortable experience.
“Ooh. So there’s more. I’m great at cross examination,” Lyle grins. “Go ahead, Easton.”
Doc enters the warehouse twenty minutes later, only to find Mitch is still refusing to talk. Without preamble, he begins to go through his bag and pulls out both a vial and syringe.
“I think I can be of some assistance.”
Easton removes the clamp again, watching as Doc walks over and rips Mitch’s shirt sleeve. He does it as if it’s no better than tissue paper, showing exactly how strong he is.
“It’s not magic or anything, but it’ll loosen his tongue a bit.”
The needle goes in smoothly, and Doc depresses the plunger to give Mitch the medication.
“What the fuck? You have some type of mob doctor?” Mitch asks, his chest heaving. He blinks heavily, shaking his head as he growls. “I’m not telling you shit! Troy is washed up and the fans won’t miss him when the season begins again.”
“Doubtful,” Silas laughs without humor. “Who did you get the drugs for the party from?”
I’m glad that I’m not the only one who heard he was doing someone a favor.
“No one. Just my supplier. She gets me all of my supplements. None of them have any extras, but she offers a little of everything,” Mitch says.
“I’d say drugging people to fuck indiscriminately is an ‘extra,’” Doc mutters. “Who is she?”
There’s no way this isn’t Avery. He said ‘she’! Silas squeezes my shoulders as my breaths get shorter and I realize I’m dangerously close to hyperventilating.
“I didn’t say it was a she,” Mitch says, backtracking as he turns his head to find Doc. His words slur as he talks, and he frowns hard as he realizes it. “What did you give me?”
“Just a little something to help you talk,” Doc shrugs. “Consider it a gift. No one in this room is going to allow you to lie to them without a fuckton of pain. Who gave you those drugs?”
“I don’t have a name,” he huffs out. “I speak to her and her assistant, okay? The company name is ROA Pharmaceuticals.”
“I’ll be right back,” Easton says under his breath.
“Do you know what that stands for?” I ask, my brows drawing together. The ‘A’ could be Avery, but what about the rest of it?
“No. But…”
This is taking too long.
Silas kicks Mitch’s stomach, probably feeding off my anxiety. His kicks are more like stomping and he stops as Mitch begins uncontrollably coughing.
“I suggest you not fuck with my patience,” I tell him.
Lyle hands out scissors and we begin cutting off his clothing as Mitch screams.
“Troy owes me! My investors are all going to pull out over his goddamned dick.”
“So you didn’t give them the photo,” I say, knowing that the possibility of that is very small.
“Fuck no. I don’t want that kind of heat. Stop. Dammit, why are you cutting my clothes?”
“You don’t need them,” Doc says. He picks up a brand and attaches something to it before he begins to heat it up with a blow torch. “Now, please, continue.”
“I need money,” Mitch pouts. “I’ve been helping the owner of ROA with some shipments. She pays me under the table, and I don’t ask any questions. Rory has no fucking idea. She thinks I’m working with some do-gooders to send hurricane relief items overseas. I think she’s scared of me.”
“You’re a dick who is indiscriminate with his bark. Of course she is,” I say. “Do you know what this person is selling?”
He’s silent up until Doc presses the brand into his skin. Then, the screams become louder and louder, until he finally gives us an answer.
“People! She’s selling people!”
I force myself to inhale the scent of burning flesh deeply, hating that I’m correct. Avery just needs to fucking die already.
“So you’re helping her.”
Doc lifts the brand, and a perfect set of lips reveals itself. Kisses of revenge. It’s almost poetic.
“What is she shipping them in?” Lyle asks.
“The port is right here. They’re large containers that go directly onto the ships and disappear. I don’t have any involvement past that. I have no interest in knowing more.”
“Where’s Troy?” I ask again. “I know who you’re working with. She’s one of the worst human beings in the world. It’s laughable that Avery is fucking everywhere.”
“I don’t know,” Mitch says again, swallowing hard.
“Then, we’re just going to have to jog your memories,” I shrug. I nod for Doc to continue, knowing we will do anything we need to in order to get Troy back.
Hold on, baby. I don’t think he can feel me through our half formed bond, but I send him every ounce of inner strength I have. Avery is fucking scary.
There’s no way to know why she’d have taken him.
TROY
