Chance
“Lie still, cher,” Cap ordered as I struggled against the hands holding me down. “Let your brother take a look.”
I didn’t know what he was talking about. I didn’t even know where I was. When I opened my eyes, a bright light stung them, and I figured I probably shouldn’t go toward the light, so I squeezed them closed again.
I twisted and yanked at the hold on my wrists, making fire streak down my shoulder like I’d been stabbed with something hot.
“Get the fuck off me,” I mumbled, digging my heels in.
Where the hell was Rena?
Someone was on my legs.
“For Gods’ sake, Happ,” Ambrose bitched. “Knock it off. I have to stop the bleeding.”
Cool air rushed over me, and I shivered. They’d cut my damn trousers off.
Where was my mate?
I gagged as someone pressed on my hip.
“Fuck, no exit,” Ambrose said. “I’m going to have to dig for it.”
White-hot pain made my entire body involuntarily arch off the bed like it didn’t even belong to me.
When the darkness came, I welcomed it.
