11. Lisette
Chapter 11
Lisette
I stumbled into the kitchen and froze.
There was a man—not a pumpkin headed man—standing in the kitchen. “Hello?” I said, my voice barely shook as I spoke.
The man turned around, and I realized he was wearing the same clothes as Nolan—and my scarecrow. Instead of a pumpkin, he had dark hair that was cropped short, firm chin and orange glowing eyes. His smile lit up his face as he saw me. “Morning, Lisette. I worked really hard to form this face. Are you happy?”
My lips parted as he walked towards me. “Your eyes are orange.”
He winced. “I tried, but I’m not perfect. I think I can do this at will. It is very tiring.” He reached out and caressed my cheek.
“I guess you don’t have to do that all the time. Like when you sleep? Where did you sleep?”
“In the pumpkin patch like I have done for days.”
I groaned. “You can sleep on the couch, you know.”
His hand slipped down to my waist. “What about your bed?”
A flame of desire blooms in my core. “Are you making me breakfast?”
Nolan grinned. Even in human form, his grin was still goofy. “Yes. I did what you did yesterday. I just finished making your plate.”
I sat down and he placed a plate in front of me. “You’re a very quick learner,” I mumbled.
His fingers played underneath my chin and tilted it up. “I can learn all sorts of things.”
I blinked as I looked into his eerie orange eyes. Was this an innuendo? I swallowed. “Good to know.” I tore myself from him and he walked to his chair.
“I practiced eating earlier. It is okay and pretty enjoyable.”
“Are you that stuck in your…pumpkin form?”
His face shifted, and he looked past me, lost in thought. “I think it’s because I’m not used to it. I am pretty sure I can lick some things in that state.”
I blinked. What did he mean by that? Maybe my mind was in the gutter. “What?”
“It may be that the longer I am humanoid, the more my body will require more human things, like food.”
“I guess you will have to shift later and try new things in both forms.”
An absolutely wicked grin spread across his human face. “I can think of a few things.”
“Later on, I can work on the porch and you can work the food stand?”
He nodded. “I’d love that.”
“At least the good thing is today is my first day officially back at work. Yesterday I was trying to get things together because I didn’t expect to have a few days of coma life. Work’s going to suck.” I smiled at him. “At least I have you. Cause I wouldn't be able to catch up without you.”
Nolan reached out a hand and touched the back of my hand. His fingers lightly caressed mine and my heart throbbed in my chest. Was there something sick and insidious out about developing feelings for a monster I might have created? “I’ll help you in any way you need.”
I smiled tightly and returned to eating. “Pass me the syrup,” I asked. Nolan handed it to me, and our fingers grazed as we touched. Another wave of desire and nervousness coursed through me.
“Even though I am human-like, I can still smell that. Is that desire? Like my erection shows mine?” he muttered without looking at me.
I tore my hand away from our touch. My face burned with embarrassment. “Can’t I have a private moment?”
“Your perfume is not private. It’s a flag.”
“Maybe I hit my head somewhere.”
His eyes darkened with rage, and his flirty grin was gone. “You did. He hit you.”
I frowned into my plate. I didn't trust myself to look at him. “No. It’s a joke. Like this isn’t me normally. This is…”
“You do realize you can move on, right?”
My head snapped up. “What?”
“You aren’t moving on. You’ve been stuck in your disappointment, fear, and sadness. And I volunteer to help you with that.” With that last statement, he grinned at me again and my stomach flipped again.
“Do you only think with your dick?” I snapped.
He blinked. His goofy and sultry grin faded. “I can’t help it, Lisette. Seeing you awakens something primal and unknown within me.”
I blink a few times. Unsure of what to say, I opted for silence instead. I ducked my head again and continued to eat. After everything was gone, I washed my plate and grabbed my laptop. After placing it on the small table, hands grabbed my hips and pulled me around. My body smashed against Nolan’s hard and muscled body and he grips the bottom of my chin hard. His soft lips crash into mine. At first, I stiffened, and it took another moment to relax into the feeling. His tongue tapped at my lips and I opened them, welcoming him into my mouth. Nolan moaned as his tongue explored my mouth with promises. Promises he wanted to explore with me. He pulled away and skipped to the stand. He shook his head around, and in an instant, his pumpkin was back.
I slumped into my chair, my body reeling with the feelings inside me. My body was lit with desire for a monstrosity.
