Chapter 74 Lennox
LENNOX
Something I was learning in my first-ever war was nothing ever went as planned.
Not that anything in my life ever went according to plan, but still, once it would be nice.
Our first attempt at killing Keziq had been a failure. We didn’t even get to attempt to kill her, that was only part of the problem.
I had called everyone together early this morning to discuss strategy since we didn’t get anything accomplished yesterday.
I wasted no time jumping right in once everyone arrived, Hecate included. I had a feeling I was going to need the original witch today.
“What’s the plan for killing Keziq? How do we cut the thread between her and Luka?”
Hecate and Luce shared a look, but neither said a thing.
“Speak.” I didn’t care if I was being too harsh. I needed answers and I needed them fucking yesterday.
“Does the spell require Ichor magic?”
“Yes.” It was Luce who finally spoke.
“Fuck.” I slammed my fist on the table. “Then we need a new spell. One that won’t put your life at risk.”
“That is the least of your worries girl,” Hecate spoke slowly, her red eyes turning toward me. “There is something else the witch heir isn’t telling you.”
“Luce?” I was getting sick of all her fucking secrets.
“Should you tell her or I?” Hecate raised a brow, causing the wrinkles in her forehead to deepen.
“Luce?” She remained silent, her arms crossed over her chest, looking anywhere but at me. Maybe she was still pissed at me about what I said last night, if she needed to have it out we could, but right now I needed her to be an active participant in this conversation.
“Her magic has not yet returned.”
Our collective gazes flew to Luce, who openly glared at the original witch.
“Is that true?” Kara was the first one to speak. “Your magic hasn’t returned?”
The only confirmation from Luce’s was the subtle dip of her chin.
“If Hecate wasn’t here, would you have even told us?” I kept my voice as calm as possible, struggling to hold down my emotions that threatened to rise to the surface.
“It could still come back, it just hasn’t yet. There’s nothing to tell.”
Magic not coming back after that many hours was a big deal. Her magic should have been fully restored by now. “Luce—”
“I don’t even know how she knew.”
“I know everything, girl,” Hecate cut in. “And I hope you wouldn’t have kept this information from your friends considering they need you for their plans to come to fruition.”
“Shit,” Luka swore. “You can’t do the spell.”
My stomach dropped. Every last drop of hope I had coming into this tent this morning dissipated.
“No, she can’t, but I can.” Hecate’s voice was firm.
“I didn’t think your magic could still work that way.” Luce didn’t move, but her eyes tracked the original witch. “That’s what the stories say.”
“There is some truth to those stories; my magic works differently now that I’m no longer a part of this realm, but I can still help.”
“How?” I pressed.
“I can help Luciana complete the spell, by pushing my magic into her.”
“Is that even possible?” Kara asked.
“Yes, it’s been done many times before, never to a spell this caliber, but there is no reason it should not work.”
I should have questioned it more—taken the time to think this over. But we didn’t have time. “How soon can we do it?”
