8. Deja McCoy

DEJA MCCOY

The time had finally rolled around for me to do my stage set.

All night, I could hear the cheers that were coming through the club.

People were literally screaming for Poison to come out.

I could hear them all the way in the locker room, where I was finishing with my hair, and make-up.

Hearing those chants gave me the boost that I needed.

Not to say that I would be nervous or anything to dance because I’ve been doing this for well over five years now, and I’ve long gone stopped being afraid to get out there, and dance for a crowd of people.

The boost would just further remind me who the fuck I was, giving me all the confidence that I needed to get out there in front of everyone, and put on one hell of a performance.

I was dancing to Rocket by Beyoncé. It was one of my favorite songs to dance to.

I’ve never had a stage set to this song, but this was often a song that I would practice to whenever I was home, or whenever I was in the studio.

I liked this song because I could dance, and float up, and down the pole, without even trying to be sexy.

The lyrics spoke for itself, so it came natural for me to do my thing.

With the song playing, I felt like I was in control of the room.

I was halfway through the song, and there was so much money that had already been thrown at me.

My top came off about a minute ago, leaving me in just my thong bottoms. Usually, I would never look out into the crowd.

I liked to look everywhere in the room, except people.

That was a trick that my aunt taught me when I started dancing.

She would always say that you never wanted to look into the crowd because your eyes might fall on someone that you didn’t want to see, which could fuck your whole set up.

I broke my own rule tonight. I looked out into the crowd, and my eyes landed on him.

A nigga that I didn’t expect to see. I just knew that when he came the other night, and threw all that money on me, that I would more than likely never seen him again at the club.

I knew he wasn’t the kind of nigga to be outside like that.

All the girls knew that he didn’t come to the clubs, but here he was.

It was Wolf. He was sitting at the bar, turned in his seat, watching me with his eyes zeroed in on me. Arms were folded, legs were partially opened, as he sat there with his game face on.

When I say that I put on the performance of my life once I saw him, I mean that.

I thought that I would freeze up, since his gaze could be viewed as intimating, but I didn’t.

I did a trick called the Fonji. If you were in the stripper world, then you would know that that trick was dangerous as hell.

I didn’t do it often because it was one of those tricks that I feared I would land wrong and fall on my head in front of all these people. For Wolf, I’ll take that chance though.

This trick was an advanced dynamic pole move.

Two of my favorite dancers of all times, which is Caramel, and Pleasure, were the only two that I’ve successfully seen complete it.

Granted, I was a baby when they used to dance, but I’ve studied their sets over the years, and I’ve seen videos of them completing the trick.

I basically had to climb up the pole and reposition my body around it.

Picture me pretty much floating in the air, and having the entire crowd gasp, wondering how the hell I was going to get down.

Once I was all the way up, I would then release my grip and allow my body to drop.

For half a second, my body was airborne, and so I didn’t bust my ass, I would have to quickly reach for the pole again.

When I did that, everyone went crazy, and you could literally see the money that was flying into the air. Security was right there with the bags, bagging up all my shit, making sure that I had everything.

I danced through the entire song, eyes still glued to Wolf.

Once I finished, I took my little bow, as the crowd erupted for me, telling me to do just one more dance, but that was it for me tonight.

This was my final performance for the night.

It was well after two in the morning, and I’ve been here since 8.

I wanted to get my ass home, so that I could shower, and get in bed.

Nari would be at my house bright and early, so that she could drop Nico off with me.

“What the fuck, Poison! Your ass is showing off. A Fonji? What the hell made you do that dangerous ass shit?” Lyric asked me, standing backstage, looking at me as if I was crazy. I laughed at her, as I put the bra back on.

“Girl, Wolf is out there. I had to show off,” I told her.

“I figured you did that shit for a reason. You showed me your set yesterday morning at the studio, and I know damn well that I didn’t see you do a Fonji. Is the nigga by himself, or he came with his brothers?” she wanted to know.

“He’s by himself. He’s at the bar. Lyric, you know that nigga never comes in here. You think he came to see me, or am I being delusional?” I asked her, and my question made her laugh.

“If he’s by himself, then yes, he came to see you. What you going to do? You gonna go speak, or you’re leaving?” she asked me.

“I was about to leave. I’m not scared to go over there, and talk to him, but girl, that nigga makes me so fuckin nervous.

Go over there to him. Talk to him. Ask him why he came.

If he tells you that he came to see me, tell him that I’m about to leave and to meet me in the parking lot.

I just don’t want to walk up on him in the club, and the shit gets back to Hitta.

He was already on that bullshit the other night because of what Kilo posted on Instagram,” I said to her, and when I finished, she had a wicked grin on her face.

She came closer to me. She was so close that I could feel the way her ass was breathing.

“Friend, you want to fuck that man,” she called me out. I pushed her ass away from me.

“Girl, just go find out what he wants,” I left it at that, not confirming or denying what she just said.

“Oh, we know exactly what he wants. Ima go out there and talk to him though. I’ll make sure that he meets you out there in the parking lot,” she told me.

I hugged her, kissed her on her cheek, and headed to the back, quickly going for the locker rooms.

When I made it to the back, there were a lot of dancers back here. Most of them were backstage, watching me as I did my set, so when I made it to the back, they all went on and on, hyping me up, telling me how good I did on stage.

I was respected for the most part by the girls at the club.

There was always going to be a couple of bold bitches out of the bunch that didn’t fuck with me, but my face was good with most of the girls.

I really wouldn’t consider them to be friends though.

The only friend that I had at this club was Lyric.

She was damn near family. She held onto secrets of mine that I knew she would take to the grave for me.

“Does anyone know what’s going on with Obsession? She hasn’t been to work in a few days now. That’s not like her. That girl isn’t going to miss a bag. What’s tea?” one of the dancers asked.

They called her Plump. The stage name was fitting because everything on her was plump.

The ass, and the titties. She had a banging body.

She wasn’t the best technical dancer, but the body made up for it.

Plump and I didn’t really speak to one another.

She was one of the bold bitches at the club that I was talking about that didn’t really like me.

I’m sure she hated all the love and attention that I would get.

Plump knew that Obsession and I had issues.

That’s why the bitch was trying to be messy and bring her name up the second that I walked into the locker room.

“I talked to her the other day on Facetime. That was like two days ago. She was in bed, sick. That hoe is pregnant. I asked her about three times if she was, but she kept denying it. I know she is. I have two kids. I know when I’m staring behind the eyes of a pregnant woman,” Desire said that.

She was another one of the dancers that I didn’t too much fuck with.

Not going to lie though, hearing her say that Obsession might be pregnant, I felt my heart drop to my damn stomach.

All I could think about was the fact that Hitta fucked her.

I knew Hitta. He claimed that I was the only woman that he was fuckin unprotected, but the nigga lied so fuckin much, that you just never really know.

I don’t know what he’s doing behind my back.

I tried to pretend that I never heard what Desire said.

I literally tuned out any conversation surrounding Obsession, as I went over to my station, and started packing my things up.

I was finished for the night and getting ready to head out.

As I was packing everything up, two of the security guards walked into the locker room.

Each of them held two garbage bags in their hands, which had all my money in them.

They walked the bags over to me, and I thanked them for it. I’ve been doing this long enough, so I was able to pile all the money into my duffle bag, and once that was finished, I slipped back into the sweat suit that I came into the club with.

Now that I had everything, I walked around, saying my goodbyes and then headed for the door.

Before going out of the back door of the club, I walked into the private restrooms that belonged to the dancers.

I made sure that no one was inside any of the stalls, and once I saw it was clear, I locked the door.
