8. Deja McCoy #4

I scanned the flyer, thinking that it was going to be like a typical movie theater, that had all the new movies playing, but it wasn’t.

They were advertising that tonight was 90’s night.

They were showing nothing but black, 90’s films tonight.

I felt like that was so dope. A lot of my favorite movies were listed.

“We can watch Boomerang,” I said to Wolf, handing him the flyer back.

The woman that was standing at the window, she heard when I gave my answer because she nodded her head and walked back over to the ticket booth.

She came back moments later with the handheld card reader, so that Wolf could pay for it.

He paid, and she quickly gave us the instructions.

She told Wolf which station to turn his radio, so that we were able to see the movie.

She let us know where we could get food from and told us the direction for the bathroom.

She gave us the route to take to get to the movie screen, and that was it.

Wolf thanked her and then headed in the direction of the movie screen. Once we got back here, we weren’t the only two that were out late night to catch a movie. There were multiple cars parked at different screens.

Wolf found the screen that belonged to us, and he parked.

So far, there was just one more car that was over here, parked at the same screen as us.

I don’t know if it was because deep down inside, I really did like the simple things, but this was so dope to me.

I felt like a character in a movie right now.

“Ima go get us something to eat. What you want?” he asked.

“You think they have mozzarella sticks?” I asked him.

“Yeah. They did the last time I came here. What else you want?” he asked, as if he didn’t think that was enough for me.

“Fries. A sprite too,” I told him.

“Aight. What about popcorn and candy? You don’t eat that?” he asked me.

“I do, but I’ll probably waste it. I can’t guarantee you that I’m going to stay up the entire movie,” I said.

“Lock the door,” he told me, right before he opened the door, and he stepped out.

I locked the door, and I followed him with my eyes.

I had no idea what was taking place between us.

Wolf didn’t give me vibes like he was obsessed with me like a lot of other dudes.

At the same time, he didn’t have a gun to his head to bring me out here with him tonight. He obviously wanted to be around me.

I ended up removing my seat belt, and I placed my phone, and keys inside his cupholder.

I cut the light on and looked around. I had such terrible PTSD when it came to niggas, so I looked around, just to see if there were any signs of a bitch being in his car, but there wasn’t.

Surprisingly, I could tell that the passenger seat was left in the same placement as I put it the other night.

No one has sat here since I sat here the other night.

There weren’t empty condom wrappers lying around.

I didn’t see a bitch’s eye lashes in the cup holder…

none of those things. He probably really didn’t have a bitch, and if he did, he did a damn good job at keeping it lowkey.

I cut the light off, and sat back in my seat, waiting for him to come back. He didn’t make it back until almost ten minutes later. When he did, he was holding a carton box in his hands, that held food and snacks.

I unlocked the door and reached over to open the driver’s side door for him. He sat the box down on the middle console, and you could see the mozzarella sticks, and fries that I asked for. My sprite was inside too. There was a big bucket of popcorn, along with all kinds of snacks, and candy.

Food was one of my love languages. I said before that I had the appetite of a man that was twice my size. I just knew that with it being so late at night, I probably wasn’t going to eat half of the items that he’d picked up for me.

“Thank you,” I said to him, once he started handing me the items.

He went ahead and took his seat. He didn’t reach for anything though.

He didn’t grab any snacks or his drink. He just sat down, relaxed in his seat a little bit, and paid attention to the screen that was ahead of us.

The movie was getting ready to start. Truthfully, I’ve seen this movie over a million times.

I wasn’t interested in watching the movie.

I really wasn’t even interested in eating anything.

I wanted to know what the hell him and I were doing.

“What are we doing?” I just flat out asked him. When I asked that question, he took his eyes off the screen, so that he could look at me.

“We watching a movie,” his response was nonchalant.

“Yeah, but why? What’s the catch? You said that you came to the club to check on things with my car.

I told you that I got my car back a couple of days ago, and that everything was fine.

It’s three in the morning, and you have me in the car with you at a drive- in movie theater.

What? Is this where you bring your hoes or something?

” I was all over the place because I was confused.

“Nah. I actually don’t bring hoes here,” he responded.

“So, where do you typically take them then?” I inquired.

“What hoes? What the fuck are you even talking about right now?” he asked.

His voice was so calm. It was deep as hell, but it was calm.

I’m so used to being around the kind of voices from a man that made me tense up.

By no means was I calm though. All I really knew was chaos.

I would often match the kind of energy that a nigga gave to me, which was chaos, and aggressiveness.

I’m so used to asking Hitta the simplest questions, and often, when his ass was lying about something, it would cause him to get loud, and defensive.

I could sense that Wolf wasn’t like that though.

He did have that aggressive side in him though.

I saw it the other evening at Range Rover, when he all but forced me to cancel the Uber.

“I’m just confused. We don’t know each other, but you had me follow you here and get in the car with you. I’m just trying to see what your motive is. You trying to fuck me? What is it?” I asked the question that I really wanted an answer to.

When I asked him that, his entire demeanor changed. He looked at me as if he was turned off by my question.

“Why I gotta have a motive for coming to your job, and getting you to follow me to watch a movie? Because I got you with me, that mean I’m trying to fuck you?” he asked.

There was confusion written all over his face. I didn’t know if he was pretending to be confused or he really didn’t understand what the hell I was talking about.

“I don’t get why you’re acting so fuckin confused.

It’s three in the morning. You took me to a fuckin drive- in theater, where it’s just me, and two other cars parked out here.

You came back with all these snacks for me.

It’s gotta be because you want to fuck me.

Niggas don’t just walk around doing shit out of the goodness of their hearts, especially not for a bitch that they barely even know.

When a man does something for a woman, nine times out of ten, they expect pussy as repayment.

That’s typically how that goes,” I shared with him.

“And you really believe that shit? You think I brought you out here, and bought you snacks because I want pussy from you? Ay, I don’t want shit from you.

In all humbleness, I get pussy thrown at me every second of the day.

It’s a million bitches out here that I could go to for pussy, without having to put in any kind of work.

You should really change the niggas that you deal with.

If every nigga that you give your time to has you feeling like a meal comes with an invoice to some of your pussy, then switch up on the kind that you fuck with because that’s corny as fuck,” he spat.

This was the first time that he really showed some emotion tonight. That nonchalant shit that he was typically on had gone out of the window.

“I don’t think it’s a situation where it’s just certain men that I deal with that have that mindset. I think all men have that mindset. You can’t tell me otherwise. I think poorly of men. I don’t believe that there are good men out there,” I hate that I even said that to him.

I really did feel this way though. This was just something that I would vent to my girls about or say out loud to myself. That’s because I felt like these kind of conversations were sacred, and it made me come off as vulnerable, and that’s the last thing that I wanted to portray.

“I don’t know what niggas you’ve come across, but it’s sad that they got you thinking that way.

You putting every nigga in the same box.

I can tell you right now that I’m not shit like the niggas that you’ve dealt with.

When I do things for people, I don’t expect nothing in return.

I ain’t the nicest nigga in the world, but I got a big heart.

I asked you outside the club if you’d eaten yet and you told me you hadn’t.

That’s why I got all this shit. I didn’t know the kinds of snacks or candy you like, so I got a little bit of everything, knowing that it had to be something in this box that you liked.

I brought you here to the drive- in theater because I wanted to respect you when you told me that you didn’t want to be around a lot of people tonight, since your face had already been in the blogs this week. Ain’t no motive,” he shot.

I nodded my head to that. I didn’t say anything else after that. I didn’t know what I should say. Maybe he was telling the truth. Hell, maybe he was lying like most men. I didn’t know him well enough to trust him yet. He could just be talking up a good game to me.
