Chapter 6 #2
I swallowed thickly. “I, um, I was for about a millisecond, but it wasn’t for me.
” Which was putting it mildly. And then, before Sam could ask more questions, I rocketed on to, “All of Pittsburgh wasn’t for me, but I love Glenside.
I thought I’d maybe work over here for a few months and then find something else to do, but Common Grounds is such a great environment that I knew I had to stay. ”
“I’m glad you did,” Sam said, raising his glass to me with a warm grin. “You’re practically part of the family now.”
Shivers of delight squiggled their way through me. There might have been a lot of things in my life that I didn’t like or that I was ashamed of, but being part of the Common Grounds family wasn’t one of them. Knowing that counted for a lot in Sam’s eyes made everything else feel that much better.
Our conversation was paused for a second as Emanuel brought our food and asked if we needed anything else. I sent him a grateful smile at his offer and he winked at me. I hoped Sam didn’t think the man was trying to flirt with me, but he seemed mostly amused.
Luckily for me, as we started eating, the conversation shifted away from me and around to Sam.
“I really hope you don’t hold how long it took me to ask you out against me,” he said with a look that was somehow both hot and sheepish.
“It’s just that we were all pretty traumatized by the Matt and Melissa incident. ”
“What exactly happened there?” I asked, eager to listen to any story Sam wanted to tell.
Sam huffed a laugh and rolled his eyes as he chewed his ribs. “The two of them were young and impulsive,” he said. “They were both students at Arcadia University, and both into theater.”
“Oh my gosh, theater people,” I laughed, already guessing where the story was going.
“Right,” Sam said, his mouth twitching into a wry grin that made me want to kiss him.
“Which meant they were loud about falling in love. They practically gushed all over each other, which wasn’t great for work.
They would sneak off into the back to make out when things got slow, which inevitably meant the service was terrible.
I lived in constant fear that someone would walk in on them going at it. ”
I couldn’t help but laugh at that.
“And then they broke up,” Sam went on. “They did that just as loudly. Lots of glares and passive-aggressive behavior. And then came the public fights.”
“Really? Ugh.”
“Yeah. Firing them was hard,” Sam went on with a wince. “I hate firing people. But it had to be done.”
“Sounds like it.”
“I wrote the rule discouraging employee dating right after that and really drilled it home to people. Of course, anyone who was around during the Matt and Melissa episode was scarred for life and thought it was necessary.” He paused, glanced down for a second, then looked up at me with a look that had my blood rushing to all the right places at the wrong time.
“That was then. Things have changed a lot. I don’t think we’ll have those kinds of problems.”
I grinned at him in return, suddenly wishing the meal was over and we could get out of there and on to my nice, empty apartment. “I don’t think we’ll have those problems either,” I said.
Sam was on the same page as me. He finished up his meal quickly. I opted to leave part of my food uneaten. I suddenly had the feeling I didn’t want to continue the evening with a full stomach.
I also had the feeling that Emanuel knew exactly why Sam and I turned down his suggestion of dessert.
“You kids have fun,” he waved after us as we left the restaurant. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
I laughed, buzzing with excited anticipation and feeling like things might actually go the way I wanted in life.
“He’s a hoot,” Sam said as we walked around to the parking lot. “I think Diccon has actually mentioned him before from one of his dates with Theo.”
“Really?” I followed Sam to his car.
“Yeah,” Sam said. “I would totally hire him for Common Grounds if he’s ever looking for another job.”
“He probably makes good tips here,” I said.
I immediately regretted it, wondering if Sam would think I was implying he didn’t pay me enough. He didn’t seem to catch the potential slip, though.
“Did you drive?” he asked, making a quick sweep of the lot.
“No, I walked,” I said. “I just live around the corner.” I failed to mention that I didn’t drive at all because I’d never been able to pass the written portion of the driving test.
“Want a ride home?” Sam asked, a knowing smile on his face.
“That would be great,” I answered, meeting his knowing with a suggestive one of my own.
Once again, we were on the same page. It took less than five minutes to reach my apartment complex, and I barely had to say a word to coax Sam out of his car and up to the apartment.
“Just so you know,” I said as I unlocked the door and stepped inside, “my roommate, Kendra, is a nurse at Abington Hospital, and she’s working a night shift tonight.”
“Oh, really?” Sam asked, reaching for me as soon as the door was shut and locked.
“Really,” I said on a sigh, melting into his arms.
It was everything I could have asked for and more. In a flash, Sam’s warm, strong arms were around me. He caught his breath as he gazed hungrily at me, then surged in to take my mouth with his, kissing me within an inch of my life.
I wasn’t even going to pretend that I didn’t want exactly this and more. I might have been clueless and na?ve about some things, but when it came to wanting to get naked and sweaty with Samwise Meyers, I wasn’t even a little bit shy.
“I’ve wanted this for a long time,” I gasped between kisses as I pulled him closer to my bedroom. “I just want you to know that. You don’t have to hesitate or be coy or anything.”
“Good,” Sam said, his voice low and rumbly in a way that had my dick straining against my jeans. “Because I think this is long overdue.”
“Hell, yeah, it is,” I said, smiling into our next kiss.
Things escalated quickly. I ran into the corner of a side table on our way to my bedroom, but it didn’t phase me at all.
The two of us were clumsy as we pulled and tugged at each other’s clothes, stepping apart only as long as it took to get shirts off or to step out of shoes.
I didn’t want to be apart from Sam at all.
I loved that he was so much bigger than me.
I wanted my skin against his and my mouth melding with his.
I wanted my mouth on other parts of him, too.
“You’re sure you’re okay with this?” Sam asked as we stepped apart one final time to shuck trousers and underwear and so that I could yank back my bedcovers to give us a clean, cool canvas of bed to work on.
“I am more than okay with this,” I said, sinking into bed on my back and practically offering myself to him.
Sam accepted the offer enthusiastically, climbing onto the bed with me and covering my smaller body with his big one.
He felt deliciously overpowering as he took charge, kissing and touching me in as many places as possible while I arched and sighed to meet him.
Sam was good with his mouth and with his hands to the point where I was almost giddy with how lucky I’d gotten.
I wasn’t about to be outdone, though. When we were both worked up and sweating, I flipped us so I could kiss my way down his chest and belly to his groin.
He nudged his legs apart, giving me plenty of space to nuzzle, kiss, and explore before taking his cock in hand.
I worked it with a few strokes, then closed my mouth around his tip, using my tongue to ignite every nerve ending there, then bore down, taking as much of him in as I could.
“Fuck, Brian,” Sam groaned as I swallowed him, slurping and licking.
God, I loved everything about his taste and the way he felt in my mouth.
I loved it so much that I went for broke, giving it my all and bringing him right up to the edge in no time at all.
I didn’t even mind when he tensed and made a tight noise before bursting and flooding my mouth with everything he had.
I swallowed and drew his orgasm out as long as possible.
I didn’t even pause to think whether he’d be disappointed to come so soon.
Whether that’s what it was or not, as soon as he started to soften, he flipped me to my back and slammed his mouth over mine, rewarding me with a toe-curling kiss.
He reached for my hard and dripping dick, stroking it as he kissed me until I couldn’t hold back for a second longer.
I came with a jolt, thrusting into his hand and spilling all over it and my belly.
Sometimes I was self-conscious about mess, but I didn’t care one bit as he pulled the most amazing pleasure through my body.
I would have given him anything and everything to feel that connection between us in its fullness forever.
Eventually, we both stilled and lay sprawled together, panting and grinning.
“That was fantastic,” I hummed, rolling into him and stretching a hand across his back.
“The first of more to come,” Sam said, kissing me tenderly.
I was too blissed out to do more than kiss him back and say, “I’m glad I decided to come to Glenside and work at Common Grounds.”
“So am I,” Sam sighed, rubbing his nose against mine. “More than you can ever know.”
I was glad I hadn’t told Sam the full story of why I’d left Pittsburgh, too, because now more than ever, I didn’t want to lose what we had once his opinion of me changed.
