Chapter 70

SEVENTY

A couple of weeks later…

The plane rumbled and the engines revved as it readied for takeoff. It gained speed down the runway and swiftly lifted off the ground, making a sweeping left turn toward its destination.

As it flattened out, the flight attendant rolled the drink cart by the passengers. Katie leaned in and kissed John, lingering just a bit longer. They were heading to their next vacation location before returning home.

“Where do you want to go after this?” he said.

“Surprise me.”

“Katie Scott, I don’t think I could ever surprise you.”

“What do you mean? You surprised me with that first kiss in Echo Valley. Remember?”

“Oh, I remember, but I think it was you who kissed me,” he said playfully.

Katie took John’s hand and smiled. “I love you.”

He held and squeezed her hand. “I never knew what my life would be with you, but now I cannot imagine my life without you.”

The plane bumped and rattled with light turbulence, but their love would always stay the course.
