Chapter Four - Christopher #6

“Megan on my fuckin’ side,” Christopher snarled. “She don’t want her son and her daughter in a fuckin’ relationship. See how the fuck that sound? Fucked up!”

“Ax, come here,” Diesel called.

“No!”

“Don’t tell Mom anything for now,” Ryder said. “Reb’s eighteenth birthday is three years away. Let’s just make sure Diesel’s happy with Jana and Rebel loves Kaia.”

“She can love a kangaroo,” Christopher grumped. “She better love that motherfucker from a distance.”

“We said we don’t keep secrets from Mom no more,” Axel said, wiping his cheeks.

“How about this?” Ryder started. “Keep watch on everyone. If they step out of line and you think it’ll upset Mom, put them back in place. I’ll even help you.”

“Me, too,” Ransom promised. “We’re your men, remember?”

Axel swiped his hand across his snotty nose and nodded. “Okay.”

“Come on, Ro,” CJ said, nodding toward the door. “Let’s go downstairs.” Placing his hands on Axel’s shoulders, he guided him into the hallway. “Later,” he said once all the boys were out of the room.

“Do you still want your drink, Knox?” Diesel asked.

“I’d love it.”

While Johnnie, Digger, and Cash debated on if that fuckhead had called Kendall a cunt, Christopher grabbed his phone.

Christopher: Hey, baby, you okay?

Megan: A little tired, but I’m fine otherwise. What about you?

Christopher: You went to the natatorium.

Megan: I kept seeing Rebel floating. It was hard to be in there, but Axel was so excited.

Christopher: How about we talk about it later?

Megan: Okay. I love you.

Christopher: I love you, too, baby.

“I’m calling Kendall right now!” Johnnie declared.

The moment she answered, he demanded Kendall and the rest of the girls come to the mancave. She made the motherfucker wait, so by the time they arrived, Knox had his drink and Johnnie was pacing.

“What, Johnnie?” Kendall demanded, sweeping into the room with the regalness of a queen.

Roxy headed to Knox, while Zoann hurried to Val, and Megan came to Christopher, kissing him and sliding on his lap. Bunny remained close to Roxy, near the bar.

“Where’s Fee?” Stretch asked.

“Home by now,” Zoann said with a sniff.

“Can you two fuckin’ make-up?” Christopher asked.

“I don’t befriend stupid bitches. It might accidentally rub off on me,” Zoann told him.

“Continue this argument later,” Johnnie barked and signaled for Kendall to come closer.

She folded her arms.

“Please, gorgeous?”

Irritation crossed her features, but she gave in and sailed to where Johnnie stood.

Smiling, he grabbed the gift bag from next to the chair and held it out to Kendall. Instead of taking it, she stared at it.

“I love you so much, sweetheart,” Johnnie started. “I haven’t bought you anything in weeks. Forgive me? I know I don’t deserve it, but I would be so lost without you, Kendall. I adore you. You’re my entire world.”

Megan placed a hand over her heart and sighed, while Zoann leaned against Val and snuggled closer.

“You don’t know how long I’ve waited to hear those words from you, Johnnie,” Kendall said softly, accepting the gift and stepping into his arms.

Relief flooded her face as they embraced.

Whistling, Mort clapped, so they all joined in. At least the motherfuckers who didn’t have casts on their hands.

Johnnie laughed and released his woman. “Open it, gorgeous.”

When Kendall held up the delicate crystal shaped into the Scales of Justice, Christopher admitted the motherfucker might’ve found a piece of his fucking brain.

“I want to have a painting commissioned,” Johnnie told Kendall, taking her face between his hands.

He thumbed away her tears and kissed her.

“You as Lady Justice.” He slid his fingers through her hair.

“I can imagine you in a toga, blindfolded, and holding a sword, your gorgeous red hair falling around you.”

“I would love that,” Kendall whispered, accepting Johnnie’s kiss again.

“I’m having chocolate shipped from Belgium just for you, sweetheart.”

“You’re ruining the surprise,” Kendall pouted.

Johnnie grinned. “I can’t help it, gorgeous. You make me insane.”

“The feeling is mutual,” Kendall said, and they all laughed.

“I can’t wait until you see the flowers I bought for you.”

Kendall poked him, although Johnnie’s fucking game became crystal fucking clear to Christopher. He got an inkling of where this was going because the fuckhead was as stupid as ever and never knew when to shut the fuck up.

“Why don’t you girls go back to the den?” Christopher blurted, hoping to curtail Johnnie’s fuckup. “Johnnie about to fuck up, Megan,” he whispered.

She slid to her feet. “Uh, yeah—”

“Go, love,” Johnnie said. “Just remember to throw Bash’s flowers away.”

Kendall smiled. So far, so good. “Don’t be jealous of Bash, Johnnie. He’s quite charming, but I love you.”

Johnnie kissed her again. “If you would’ve acted like it yesterday, I wouldn’t have had to spend so much fucking money to prove that to you, Kendall.

She froze. All her momentary peace and happiness fled.

“Idiot,” Megan said under her breath.

Grinning as if he hadn’t just broken Kendall’s heart all over again, Johnnie returned to his seat and sipped his Scotch. “Honestly, gorgeous, I’m shocked that you think any man should spend so much on you. You’re a middle-aged woman and you should be above all that.”

Mort scratched his jaw. Pursing his lips, Val glanced at the table. Stretch drummed his fingers.

What else could any motherfucker do with that fucking level of cluelessness?

Megan, Roxanne, Zoann, and Bunny were gaping at that fuckhead like he’d gone insane. And, still, he wouldn’t shut his fucking piehole.

“Besides, Kendall, you haven’t been very dutiful to me, so I think you made me jealous on purpose. You knew I’d want to outspend that fuckhead to stake my claim and remind everyone you’re mine.” Johnnie drank again. “I wish the boys were still here.”

“Johnnie, don’t—”

“They’d see what I mean when I said you still act like a cunt sometimes,” he barreled on, interrupting Val and ignoring the plea on his face. “But you win, gorgeous. You got me to act like Christopher does behind Megan.”

Kendall stared at Johnnie as if she’d never seen that motherfucker before.

He frowned at her. “What, Kendall? What the fuck did I say now that’s pissed you off?”

“How about everything?” Val told him.

Smiling, Kendall walked the short distance to where Johnnie sat at the same table as Cash and Digger. She still held her crystal Scales of Justice.

She slammed that motherfucker to the floor. The shattering glass echoed in the silence of the room. Holding Johnnie’s shocked gaze, she stomped the million little pieces for good measure and stormed the fuck away.
