Chapter 7

Kimmy kept thinking about what she’d seen. She didn’t know if she could see the future or if it was something that she hoped she’d see. The only part that bothered her was that Rance had been hurt, but his brother was dead.

His head had been removed from his shoulders by a sword that she’d seen in her home with Rance.

He’d told her that he’d used it in several wars over the centuries and that it had saved his life on more than one occasion.

It wasn’t adorned with anything, other than his name in vampire.

It was covered in nicks from hitting something hard and unforgiving like bone or heavy armor.

“How are you doing?” She turned and smiled at Rance, telling him that she was just fine and dandy. “I’ve not heard that saying in some time. You looked so furlong when I came upon you. You’re not still worried about us, are you? I’m telling you that we’re just fine and dandy as you put it.”

“David. Mostly anyway. I keep thinking that he’s going to hurt you.

And when he does, I’m going to be left all alone.

” He said that she has to promise to go to Brew.

He’ll know what to do. “But he won’t be you.

Don’t you see that? He’ll be able to take care of my needs, but nothing more.

I can’t stand the thought of being without you around me all the time. ”

He came to her and pulled her into his arms. “I’m stronger than him, you’ve told me this too.

I’m going to get him killed, and that will be the end of him.

” She let him hold her, and she did feel better.

“I promise I’m not going to do anything stupid.

I’m only going to take him on as a last resort.

Brew is going to take care of him for us. ”

“Yes, so he said.” He stepped back and lifted her chin up, asking her if she believed him.

“I do with everything that I am. I want him gone from our lives before he kills anyone else. And he will. No matter what you think about him, he’s going to kill other people while he comes to Brew.

And why is Brew letting him take so long to come to him?

Doesn’t he know what sort of person he’s dealing with? ”

“I honestly don’t think that he does. He knows what he’s capable of, but I don’t think he believes he’s still like that.

He has had the records of his parents looked into.

The only thing is that they were turned to ash as soon as he removed their heads.

However, it doesn’t say that they were sickly like he said they were.

There are no records of them ever going to the doctor in the time up to and right before they were murdered.

And I believe that he murdered them both.

They weren’t good people, but they didn’t deserve to die like they did. ”

“No one does.” She started pacing, and he stayed back. “I’ve seen him working his knife over someone else. I don’t know if it’s the future, now, or in the past, but he’s having a good time with the human.” She put her hand on her belly when it churned up.

“A human?” She nodded and told him that he couldn’t tell if it was a shifter or not and had taken her. “A female human is going to get him in trouble with the law, human law. They won’t be able to keep him from killing the lot of them the way that he is.”

“That’s what I’m talking about!” She had to calm herself down, or she was going to be sick.

The thoughts of what he was doing now made her ill enough that she couldn’t hold down any food.

The way that the two of them were taking so much time bothered her, too.

“Let’s just go to Brew’s house and let him know what’s going on.

If he really can command him to be with him, and there is no reason why he shouldn’t be able to do that, then David will be taken care of immediately instead of fucking around like he is.

I’m mad at Brew for letting David be out there on his own without being dead. And he needs to be dead now.”

“All right. We’ll go over to his house now.” She went to the door to wait on Rance. “You really want this done now.”

“Yes, and I can’t believe that you don’t.

He’s a monster and is harming other people like they’re nothing.

That woman could be suffering right now, and we’re sitting around with our heads up our asses doing nothing about it.

” She hated to get upset like she was, but she was sick of them doing nothing.

“I hope that he doesn’t take my mood out on you.

I want this taken care of now so that I can get on with my life.

Right now I’m sitting around and waiting, and I can’t stand that.

Brew is going to have to get David taken care of, or I will. ”

She didn’t know if he was mad at her or not, but they didn’t speak all the way over to Brew’s home.

Sick of waiting on something to happen, she thought that she really could do this on her own, if nothing more than to remove his head.

Kimmy knew that she could do it too. She’d seen it in her visions.

The sword had been there, and she was too when he was killed.

Not that the two things were that she’d swung the sword, but damn it, she would if they didn’t help her out of this nightmare.

She was going crazy waiting for them to do something.

As soon as she was let in the door, she demanded to speak to Brew.

He was just coming down the stairs when she saw him.

“What’s this all about? You can’t come into my house demanding anything.” She knew that he was mad. “Rance, keep your mate in control, or I will.”

“Where is David? Do you know what he’s doing right now? He’s killing a human female by flaying her skin off an inch at a time.” He pales a little. “What are you going to do about it? Tell me what you’ve done about it other than to half-ass order him here?”

“He’s not obeying me.” She said ‘duh’ and told him that she wouldn’t obey him either, the way he half-assed things. “You’re going to have to calm down a bit here. I’m still your king.”

“Then save me.” She burst into tears and fell onto his chest. “You want him to kill me? Is that what this is all about?”

“No! What a thing to say to me. I’m working hard here learning all the things that I can do.” She told him what he could do about David. “You know this? That I can bring him here in chains, silver ones, and keep him from harming anyone in my household? That would include you as well.”

“I know it. I know a lot of things about your job.” He looked over at Calla, and she nodded.

“She gave me the books so that I could read them, and I did. You don’t even have to behead him to kill him.

You have the power to kill him by death, and it will never mar your home either.

He’s got to go. Don’t you see what it’s doing to me waiting around for him to show up? ”

“I had no idea he was still killing either.” He took her from his chest and guided her to the living room.

Once she was seated, he sat down beside her and asked what she knew about killing David.

She’d been going over it in her head so much that she had no trouble telling him what to do.

“So, in order to command him here, I have to use compulsion. I didn’t the first time.

I thought, stupid of me really, that once I said he was to come to me that he would.

What else have you learned from those books that my Calla Lily gave you to read? ”

“You have the power to remove his head or just will it gone. He’ll turn to ash as soon as it’s removed, and he’ll no longer be a threat to humans or myself.

I want him gone.” He nodded, and she continued to talk to him about the way things had to go.

“You have to say that you want him in chains because once he’s in your house, you can never get him out.

It’s like you’ve invited him in with power, and he will just stay, doing what he wants to the people in the house forever.

He’s going to kill whoever gets in his way, and that would include trying to kill you. He’s a monster.”

“I should have known that from before.” He asked where the best place to do this was. “You have a place in mind, so that should be all right with me.”

“You can do it right here in the living room. He’ll only be a ball of pain when you bring him here.

Silver will hold him tight. Don’t just put it around his wrists and legs either.

You want him wrapped in it so tightly that he can’t escape.

There is no magic potion for it, you just say what you want, and you’ll be able to have him here wrapped up.

” He told her that it sounded too easy. “Of course it is. That’s why no one has thought of doing it before.

Your predecessors weren’t very big on magic unless it would benefit them.

And this will benefit a great many people. Especially me.”

“I’m not thrilled with you right now, but I can see your point in coming here the way that you did.

I’m assuming that since you can see the now, you might well be able to see the future too.

” She said she wasn’t sure what she was seeing just yet.

“All right. I can understand that, too. I don’t know that I’d be able to tell them apart either.

We’ll just have to assume you’re right about him killing humans and go from there.

He’s giving us a bad name for what he’s been doing, and that won’t bode well for the people of this town.

I’ll do it. But I need to have it worded just right so that I don’t mess it up, and having him in my home forever. ”
