Chapter 4 #3

“Good girl,” he praised, making Toni’s entire body shudder again.

Dropping his wallet to the dirt at his feet, he kept her secure with a hand under her ass as he lowered the zipper of his coveralls.

Where they were against the door of the truck wasn’t as bright as it would have been if they were in front of it or on her car.

The large hood lamp—that her inexperienced brain attributed to a stadium light—focused on what was in front of the truck, leaving them in shadows at the side of it.

But there was just enough light that she caught the pale skin revealed beneath the zipper.

Was he naked under those coveralls?

She couldn’t ask without dropping the condom, and then his eyes caught hers again as he removed the packet from between her lips, broke it open, and slid it on.

Fuck if she wasn’t determined to leave her wrists above her head as he instructed, she would have reached between them and moved her panties aside for him.

As if he knew what she was thinking, he gave her a crooked, approving smile as he shifted them slightly so he could position himself between her legs.

One hand on her hip, the other back on her wrists above her head, and his cock notched at her entrance, he stared intensely into her eyes like he was searching for her soul. “Don’t let me hurt you.”

The words, while odd, held such deep emotion that Toni let out a slight whimper at them.

He was a stranger. She didn’t know his name, didn’t know if he was single or married, didn’t know his age or history.

But she knew evil. She stared it down every day, trusting her instincts to know if the person in front of her was innocent or guilty.

And this man… He was haunted, gutted to the point of pain, and yet she knew he was a good man. She trusted him, believed he was worth something.

She didn’t tell him that he couldn’t or wouldn’t hurt her, hating when those cringy lines appeared in her romance books. Instead, she nodded her understanding. “I won’t.”

He pressed inside her, stretching her in the most delicious way.

She’d never gotten the opportunity to look, but from the feel of him, he was thick.

He felt so damn good, so much better than even her favorite vibrator.

She felt centered, and knew with absolute certainty, that she was exactly where she was meant to be.

Toni had never looked into a lover’s eyes before. Maybe it was her, maybe it was him, but she always closed her eyes when her partner was inside her.

Not now. Not this time. She couldn’t look away as he held her gaze like she was the anchor keeping him from floating away.

He did not go slow, did not tease her with short, easy thrusts.

The moment he fully seated himself inside her, he pulled out, and slammed back home.

Toni gasped out, her fingers above her head aching to touch him, to hold him, and yet she loved the domination, the power he exuded to take command.

She was always in control, always in check.

To let loose, to know that her pleasure was in his capable hands, was a relief.

And she craved more of it.

He exploded into quick, rapid thrusts, powering in and out of her.

His hand above her suddenly dropped, tugging on the top of her dress.

Despite that this was only the second time she’d worn it, the dress was cheap, a relic of her college days.

It tore with little effort from him, her breasts spilling free as her strapless bra shifted at the movement.

His head dipped, pulling a nipple into his mouth.

Toni’s fingers came down hard on his shoulders, fighting her way inside the loose coveralls to bare skin.

She was so close, barely hanging on the edge as he drove into her.

Their gasps were heavy on the night air.

Toni felt her muscles start to spasm around him, and a moment later he let out a throaty roar, like a revving engine.

Sweaty, messy, they stayed together for several minutes.

It took Toni a bit to realize that he was languidly kissing his way up her neck.

Shivers ran through her, the act feeling intimate and personal.

Yet, she found herself doing similarly. Petting the hair at the base of his skull, resting her cheek against his temple, caressing the muscle around his clavicle with the pad of her finger.

It was perfect.

Until someone cleared their throat.

Startled from the bliss coursing through him, Ranger lifted his head and looked to his left where the last person on earth he expected to see was standing there.

Susan Brown. The club’s business attorney.

He didn’t know her, know her, but he’d had plenty of meetings with her that there was no way to hide. Fuck.

Toni turned too, and the moment her eyes landed on Susan, he felt the immediate change in her. “Holy fuck! Susie!”

“You didn’t answer your text messages,” the woman accused, hands on her hips like she was scolding a child. “And now I see why.”

“I didn’t… I mean, I don’t…” Toni tried to scramble down, but it wasn’t so easy with Ranger still inside her.

Not wanting her to hurt herself, Ranger said sternly to Susan, or Susie. “Could you give us a bit of privacy?” Though phrased as a question, it was not.

“If you wanted privacy, you shouldn’t be fucking on the side of the road where anyone could drive up on you.” She indicated her cage behind her. “Case in point.” But she did give them her back.

Guess that was the best he could ask for, especially with the fact that they were not in a bedroom where she could close a door behind her.

Toni didn’t stop squirming. “Baby, stop,” he urged. “Let me get us situated?—”

“I’m not your baby!” she snapped. Then clamped her mouth and eyes closed as she conked her head back on the metal of the truck door. “Fuck!”

Taking the edge of the condom, Ranger carefully pulled himself from her tight center.

It was like leaving paradise to enter a blizzard.

One arm around her waist, he lowered her to the ground and ensured she had her footing before he stepped back.

As he pulled the condom off his shrinking dick, she tried desperately to right her panties and ruined dress.

Fuck, he wished he had a shirt or a jacket to offer her.

But all he had were these fucking coveralls.

If he showed up naked back to the garage, there was no way he wouldn’t be accused of being high.

Then again, he wasn’t high, and she clearly needed them more than he did.

But before he could offer them, she was charging away from him with her arms desperately trying to cover herself. “Take me home, please,” she said to Susan.

Susan immediately spun around. “Did he hurt you?” Her question might have been directed at Toni, but her eyes were glaring daggers at Ranger, who still had not zipped up his coveralls.

Ranger didn’t answer. He hadn’t hurt her, had he? It wasn’t like him to be so out of control, but damn, she was like a flame and he a helpless moth.

“No,” Toni said loudly, her eyes flicking back to him. “No, but I need to go home.”

“Wait!” Ranger called after her. This felt…wrong. Rushed. Incomplete.

But she shook her head. “Just leave my car. I’ll take care of it tomorrow.” Then she hurried on unsteady heels over to the passenger side of Susan’s cage.

Susan looked back and forth between the two of them before shrugging and following after Toni. Her cage was still running, so she easily got behind the wheel, backed up, and then drove up the mountain road.

Ranger stared after the red taillights, completely flabbergasted. What the fuck just happened?

* * *

They were barely around the bend before Toni and Susie glanced at each other, and then burst out laughing.

“Holy crap, girl!” Susie choked out. “I don’t know if I should commend you or scold you. What the hell was that?”

Toni’s laugh turned into a pitiful groan.

“I don’t know! I don’t know. It was… Fuck, Suz, it was like I had no control.

The moment that man stepped out of that tow truck, I was on him.

” Her face fell into her hands, hoping her elbows kept her dress up enough where she wasn’t flashing Susie. “He must think I’m such a whore!”

Susie took her hand off the steering wheel to slap blindly at Toni, catching her forearm. “Stop that right now. It takes two to tango, so he was equally whore-ish.”

Toni lifted her face out of her hands, stared hopelessly at Susie’s profile, and then hid behind her hands again.

“Hey,” Susie said, calmer. “Was it at least good?”

Fuck, it was fantastic. Her groan must have said it all, though, because Susie started laughing again.

Sitting up, Toni threw her head back against the headrest. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me!

I just had sex with a man whose name I don’t even know against a tow truck on the side of the road—where who knows who passed us or what they saw!

Hell, I didn’t even hear you pull up. How much did you see? ”

Susie did not look away from the road as she said, “Enough.”

Toni closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead. “Great.”

“Wait, you don’t know who he is?”

Sitting up, Toni turned towards her friend. “Should I? He’s part of the club, right?”

Susie nodded, but there was a tightness to her expression now and her lips were pointed down in a frown. “Yeah. That’s Ranger.”

She said the name like Toni should know it.

Most recently, she was familiar with Maddox Bane, or Bones.

While she was not defending Jett Deininger, she had been approached about it.

She could have argued that it wasn’t a conflict of interest—she’d never represented Bones and the times she had represented club members weren’t substantially related to the current attempted murder case—but she had not felt right taking the case, given certain assumptions she’d made during her time defending Steel about how the club operated.

Which also gave more substance to those rumors she heard about.
