Chapter 70 Havoc

Havoc

Isee her before I hear her.

Aspen.

Running toward us.

“What are you doing?” I snap.

“I’m not staying back,” she fires right back.

Of course she isn’t.

Another shot cracks through the air.

She drops beside me without hesitation.

“You’re bleeding again,” she says.

“Later.”

“Now,” she counters, already reaching for my shoulder.

“Aspen—”

“I said now.”

And somehow—

In the middle of a firefight—

I listen.

Because that’s what she does.

She makes me listen.

Her hands move fast.

Checking.

Pressing.

Stabilizing.

Gunfire echoes around us.

But right here—

It’s just her.

“You’re going to tear this open again,” she mutters.

“Occupational hazard.”

She glares at me.

Even now.

And yeah.

That’s definitely a problem.

A big one.

Because I don’t want her anywhere near this.

And at the same time—

I don’t want her anywhere else.

“Stay behind me,” I say.

“Not a chance.”

I almost laugh.

Because of course not.
