Chapter 34 Saint

They’re half carrying me, half dragging me.

Which is impressive, considering I’m not exactly built like a lightweight.

I’m big. All muscle. Dead weight when my ribs feel like they’ve been hit with a sledgehammer.

We all know I’m too big for them to carry.

But I don’t argue.

I don’t fight it.

The processing plant groans behind us.

Metal shrieks.

Fire starts licking out of broken windows as smoke pours into the night.

The place is dying.

Good.

I look back once.

Flames crawl across the structure like they’re hungry.

“This isn’t over,” I say.

Marco appears beside us, stepping out of the shadows like he’s been there the whole time.

His face is calm.

But his eyes are colder than I’ve ever seen them.

“No,” he agrees quietly.

“But now she’s the one running.”
