Chapter Three. #2

“That’s a shame. You look like you could be fun,” Kris said, his gaze raking me.

“I’m a certified blast, but you’re not going to find out because I’m quite happy on the shelf.”

“Oh, come on! You can’t be more than thirty.”

“No, I’m not.”

“So, how was your day?” Kris asked, changing the subject.

“Busy with my lawyer; we’re preparing to sue the asshole. What about you?”

“Boring until now. Do you have the evidence for that?” Kris inquired casually.

A wicked little smile crossed my lips. “Yes. And he’ll pay. You can tell Shane that when you next see him.”

Kris looked surprised. “What?”

“I stated I was na?ve, not that I still am. Look around you, Kris; there are plenty of beautiful women here. Yet you hit on the one who’s got a fuck ugly scar, and you don’t stare or comment on it?

No shock or horror when you saw it. That means you’ve studied my face before.

You knew exactly who I was when you sat here.

My first words didn’t scare you; most men would have backed off.

The surprise you feigned is good, but slightly off. ”

“You’re impressive,” Kris said.

“No. I’m wary and alert. I’ve been set up once and refuse to be caught again. You can tell Shane, I’ll be seeing him in court, and that bitch he’s covering for.” I slid off my stool.

“You’ve got a lead on something.” Kris narrowed his eyes.

I leaned into his space and whispered in his ear, “You’ll never know.”

Kris stiffened, then I turned and left.

Rascal

“Jinx!” I roared as I tripped over thin air and bounced down the stairs. Jinx looked up from the bar, shaking his head.

“I was over here!” he denied.

Sailor was laughing his ass off as Dollar gave me a hand up. Fanatic, now a brother, raised his eyebrows.

“Fuckin’ bring Danny round,” I snapped. We all happily recognised that Danny neutralised the Jinx Effect.

“He’s with Axel, who’s visiting.” Fanatic smirked.

“Then go get him,” I replied as I began walking towards the bar. Fuck me. Moments later, there was a metallic groan. Fanatic’s eyes widened, and then he dived at me, taking me down. A God almighty crash came from behind me, and Fanatic grunted.

“Shit!” I gasped. Fanatic lay across me, and I didn’t budge. Something had hit him, and with his liver problems, I wouldn’t risk harming him.

“Don’t move,” Jinx said, and I heard a grinding noise, and Fanatic moaned.

“Do you have a fuckin’ death wish?” Chance demanded as Fanatic pushed off me and turned around. I stared at the glass spread near us. The ceiling light had fallen.

“Someone fetch Danny!” I yelled, and Fanatic started laughing.

“Think my ankle’s broken, Prez,” he said finally.

“Your mother is going to vote to take your patch if you don’t stop getting hurt,” Chance threatened Fanatic.

“Mum can’t do shit. I’m a brother now,” Fanatic retorted.

Sailor looked at Chance from where he’d been checking Fanatic’s ankle. “He needs an X-ray, Prez.”

“Fuck my life,” Chance moaned and hauled Fanatic to his feet. He pointed at Jinx. “Sit down, don’t move. You’re on Rascal duty.”

“No probs,” Jinx replied, looking a bit hangdog. We’d long ago accepted that disasters followed Jinx around. Jinx had taken some crap for it, but he understood we had his back, even if we got banged up.

“There’s a delivery for April,” Dollar said, carrying a package gingerly. Harlequin appeared from nowhere and took it.

“She still getting shit?” I asked.

“Yeah,” Harlequin growled as he opened the box. Before he could stop us, we all peered in, and Harlequin cursed as we saw several sex toys inside.

“Woot! Go, brother,” I crowed as he slammed the lid shut and blushed.

“Fuck!” he swore as we began laughing.

“Were those his and hers butt plugs?” Fanatic smirked despite his pain.

Chance burst into laughter as Harlequin stomped away.

“Don’t forget lube!” Sailor yelled, and Harlequin flipped him off.

“Damn, that’s some funny shit,” Chance grinned and then glared at Fanatic. “Hospital. Sailor, stick with him.”

“Fine,” Fanatic grouched.

“What are you up to?” Bear asked, sitting next to me.

“Nothing. I’m being babysat.” I nodded at Jinx, who smiled broadly. Smug little shit.

“Do you want to go for a run?” Bear inquired.

“Fuck yes.”

“Not even gonna ask where?” Bear laughed.

“No.”

“Unwanted Bastards. Inglorious ordered a part for his bike. You need to deliver it,” Bear said. I was on my feet within seconds.

“I’m on it!”

“With Jinx,” Bear warned.

“Sure thing, Veep. Just a drop off?” I checked.

“Yeah.”

Like all bikers, there was nothing better than riding my Hog on the open road.

It was freeing, and nothing else came close.

For me, any excuse to ride seemed perfectly fine.

A far cry from who I used to be. That guy had no idea what he’d been missing.

Hellfire MC was the only positive from my attack.

I took the lead with Jinx behind me. The part was strapped to the back of my Harley, and we headed into the Black Hills towards Merritt. It was a beautiful ride, and I enjoyed it. As a club, we rode many routes, but the ones in the Hills were my favourite.

We pulled into the parking lot and swung off our bikes.

“Don’t you move, Jinx!” a guy ordered, and I began laughing as Vortex, the Unwanted Bastard VP, came into view.

Jinx shrugged, and my bike wobbled. “Jinx!”

“Oh, shut up, it’s fine,” he snapped and walked over to clasp elbows with Vortex.

Vortex slapped him on the back, and I smiled. Jinx needed acceptance like this, and it meant the world to him. He was a good kid.

“You got the part?” Vortex peered at the parcel.

“Yeah. Were you waiting for us?” I asked.

“Nope. Everyone’s looking for Chill. Nanci’s after his ass again and he’s hiding. While he’s doing so, Hercules became her target. That means Hercules sent everyone out to find Chill to get her off his back,” Vortex explained. “Who’s going to argue with that big bastard?”

I began laughing. Nanci was on a mission. She was like the female version of Drake and Chance, who’d both been known to play matchmaker. Only Inglorious, Lasher, and Vortex had old ladies, and Nanci felt like she was in a minority.

“Chill still avoiding Meadow?” Jinx asked.

“Like the plague. It’s fuckin’ funny how he drops the ball around her. Fucker can’t talk without mumbling. And Meadow blushes whenever she sees him,” Vortex continued.

“I like Meadow,” Jinx said, and Vortex eyed him sternly.

“I like you, kid, but if Chill comes for ya, that’s my brother,” he replied.

“Oh, no! Not like that. Meadow makes great food!” Jinx stammered, and I laughed.

“Typical man, thinking with his gut,” I teased, and Jinx shrugged. I sobered. We all had guessed Jinx had a rough start in life. He’d known hunger, so none of us would give him a hard time.

“Motherfuckin’ asshole!” Chill bellowed from somewhere close by.

We headed down the path that led to the town of Merritt.

The Unwanted Bastards had done it up as an old Wild West town, and it was open to tourists.

They’d kept as many of the original buildings as possible.

Chill was flat on his back, being dragged down the dirt road by Hercules by his ankle.

Nanci stood outside the clubhouse with a wicked expression.

Hercules dropped Chill in front of her and poked a finger in her face. “Back off now, Nanci!”

“Fine. But if he runs again, you’re the one who’s going to keep catching him,” Nanci retorted.

“No skin off my nose. Stay the fuck out of my love life,” Hercules demanded.

Nanci smirked, and even I knew she’d no intention of doing that. She reached out and patted Hercules’ arm. “Okay, Beastie.”

“Stop calling me Beastie!”

“Whatever, Stud,” Nanci quipped, and Hercules let out a loud growl.

“I don’t know how the hell Inglorious puts up with you,” Hercules snapped.

“He likes my blowjobs. Now you…” Nanci turned to Chill, who took to his heels.

She shot Hercules a gimlet stare, and he chased after him.

Movement caught my attention, and I turned and saw Inglorious watching.

There was laughter on his face mixed with pain.

The Unwanted Bastard Prez was healing, but his losses wouldn’t ever truly fade.

Inglorious met my gaze and nodded. “Nanci, we’ve guests.”

Nanci turned around and broke into a wide smile. “Jinx!”

“Every fuckin’ old lady loves him,” Vortex muttered.

“I know, it’s a cross I must bear,” Jinx retorted, and I laughed in surprise as he accepted a hug from Nanci.

“Kid grew a mouth,” Vortex said, shocked.

“He’s Hellfire MC; what did you expect?”

“True,” Vortex mumbled as Nanci came over to greet me. Inglorious gave me a death stare as she hugged me, and I grinned at him.

“You’ve a suicide wish.” Vortex smirked, and I shrugged. That was life!
