7. Eris #3

“Not at all. Ms. Richardson, your HCG came back positive.”

“HCG? HCG? That’s…” Rayzor murmured.

“Pregnant,” I blurted.

“Nah, baby, that ain’t it… That’s…” Rayzor shooed me in deep thought as he tried cracking the code that I just decoded for him.

“Yes, Ms. Richardson, the HCG is significantly elevated, which is consistent with pregnancy. We’ll need an ultrasound to determine how far along you are.”

“Oh shit, she’s pregnant?!” Rayzor jumped up, and I dropped my head. How in the hell was I pregnant? I mean, I knew how, but how the hell? When the hell?

“Yes. She’s pregnant.”

“Are you sure?” I asked, not wanting to believe it, but I felt it was true. I’ve had a feeling.

“Yes. Congratulations are in order.”

“Thank you.”

“I’ve ordered the ultrasound, and it’ll be here shortly. I’ll give you two some privacy.”

The moment he walked out, Rayzor placed both his hands alongside of my face and kissed me deeply. Despite my mouth feeling yucky along with my body, he looked at me with so much love and admiration.

“Fuck. I didn’t think I could love you anymore than I do now.” He leaned down toward my stomach, placing his head on it. “And you, lil’ one. I love the fuck outta you and you don’t even know it. Just bake low and slow. We’re waiting on you, aiight? We’re on your time.”

I started crying. Not the initial confirmation, but his words were so sweet.

He glanced up at me with love in his eyes.

Thirty minutes later

A knock came at the door.

A woman pushed a portable ultrasound machine into the room, followed by a nurse.

“Hi, Ms. Richardson. I’m going to get you set up for your ultrasound.”

I looked at Rayzor then back at her.

“Already? I thought it would take a while. He just ordered it.”

“Shit. That was too long if you ask me. I’ve been ready since Doc said it,” Rayzor added.

She smiled. “We work pretty fast around here.”

Rayzor stood up, grabbed my hand and waited for the next steps.

“You good?”

I nodded.

The room got too quiet.

The nurse moved around in the background. The sonographer programmed the machine, and in a couple of minutes I was shifting and positioning myself on the table. My heart was pounding so hard I felt it in my ears.

The sonographer lifted my gown and placed gel on it. “Are you comfortable?”

“Yes.”

She moved the wand around and the gel started heating up.

Rayzor kissed the top of my head.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

I froze.

“What’s that?” Rayzor asked.

“That’s your baby’s heartbeat,” I told him through tears.

His hand tightened around mine.

“That’s my baby.” His voice cracked. “Damn, that’s my baby with that strong ass heartbeat.”

“Yes, it is,” the sonographer stated.

“That’s our baby in there, baby,” he said, trying to remain strong.

“Based on gestational measurements, I’d say you’re about fourteen weeks.”

I dropped my head back on the pillow, staring at the ceiling. That blindsided me.

“Fourteen?”

“How long is that in pregnancy, three months?” Rayzor asked.

I was searching in my mind about how the hell I ended up this pregnant when we didn’t get back together until recently. That meant I got pregnant when we were broken up.

“Three and a half months,” the sonographer stated.

My eyes moved up toward Rayzor.

“Damn, you weren’t even fucking with me like that. But that spin back got that kick back.”

The nurse and sonographer were both holding their laughter.

“It doesn’t matter now. You got the ring now.”

“The baby ain’t gave me no signs.”

“Just in there big kickin’ it. They knew mama and daddy was goin’ to give them their forever home together.” He kissed me. “OG knew what he was doing when you came to the fight that night.”

Somehow, we were in chaos, but there was already beauty forming in the storm. This baby was meant to be here. Rayzor was meant to be in my life.

“You know that means we gotta live together, right?” he said.

“We do.”

“Hell yeah, we do. You think I’m about to let my future wife and my unborn live apart from me? I let you have your independence, but you can call on daddy from here on out.”

“I’ve been calling on you.”

“From inside our own shit, though. That’s different.”

“Courtland.”

“Don’t call my name like that unless I’m in that pussy.

This ain’t a debate, Mrs. Kirkland. You almost fuckin’ fainted working out with me.

Ain’t no telling what else your ass been doing by yourself.

You can keep your crib. I won’t take that away from you, but you and my kids are coming home with me.

” With that, he leaned down and put the most passionate kiss upon my lips; it made my heart flutter.

“Well,” the nurse said, interrupting us. “Someone’s happy.” She pointed to the monitor.

I pushed him away. “And you can see why.” I smiled.

“Ain’t nothing wrong with that.” She laughed.

Rayzor and I stared lovingly into each other’s eyes as the sonographer finished cleaning off my stomach. Our lives were about to change for the better, and I couldn’t be more excited, even though I was a bit scared. We were taking leaps that I didn’t even see, but I was ready for the ride.
