Chapter 4 Rayzor
After hitting the gym and a few brand meetings, I had an appointment.
Eris was on my mental heavy. Had been for days even though we’d been on the phone talking and texting since running into them at the movies.
It was something ‘bout her that calmed a nigga down.
She made me want to move slower, appreciate and sit in the moment.
With my life being on the go, it’s hard to stop and breathe. With Eris, she made it natural to fall into a flow state. Calmer. She brought a sense of peace. I liked that.
In my rearview, I noticed this car following me like it did back at the lot.
I could’ve been tripping, but you’re never too careful because mothafuckas knew who to fuck with.
Keeping my hand on my shit, eyes on all mirrors, I kept it pushing, but was ready for whatever in case it had to turn into a summertime shootout.
The car pulled outside the lot behind me. I got out, and it still sat there with the daytime lights foggy. They slow rolled toward me, stopping a few feet away. I walked toward it, and they pulled off.
I stayed back until their lights were down the road before going into the building.
Everybody was minding their business. The TV was on the news, and the receptionist was on the computer with the phones ringing crazily. This must’ve been one of those busy days Eris talked about.
“Welcome to BrightLine Dental. We’re only doing appointments today,” the receptionist asked without looking up from her screen.
“It’s a good thing I got one then,” I responded.
“Perfect. Name please.”
“Courtland.”
She moved her mouse around, typing on the computer before looking back at me. “Last–”
“Hannah. The phones,” another receptionist interrupted.
“You’re Rayzor, the boxer, aren’t you?” She gleamed.
I nodded.
“I’m Gia.”
“Boxer?” Hannah repeated, confused.
“Is Eris…” I started to say.
“Girl, yes,” Gia cut me off. “He’s the hottest thang out right now and damn, he’s fine. TV does him no justice.”
“I don’t watch sports, but he was just giving me his information for his appointment.”
“Eris here? I only wanna deal with her.”
“Eris who?” Gia retorted, insulted. The amusement in her voice faded and the irritation was showing. She was a jealous mothafucka.
I wasn’t fucking with the back-and-forth shit, so I let myself in the back. The office wasn’t larger than a shoebox. I found Eris in the back finishing up a patient.
“And we’ve already made your next six-month visit…” She paused, noticing me. I saw her trying to hide her annoyance. “Here’s your bag, Mr. Johnson,” she explained.
The old mothafucka got out of her chair, showing all twenty teeth he had.
“You always take good care of me, Eris,” he flirted.
“Don’t get them other ones knocked out, ole’ nigga,” I said, scaring his old ass. His eyes were wide as he shuffled past me with his goody bag.
“Have a good day, Mr. Johnson.” Eris led him away. I watched that ass switch in her scrubs.
“Sir, you can’t just come back here. You must wait for your appointment time.” Hannah chased me down.
“It’s alright, Hannah. I got it.” She pulled me to the side. “Courtland, what’re you doing here? This is my job.”
I looked around. “Yeah. I know.” I took a seat where the old man had just got up from.
“That nigga needs to wash his ass. I want brand new everything. Can’t be going inside my shit with nothing he touched.”
“First off,” she said distractingly as she went through her calendar on the TV screen mounted in front of the room.
“I need to see if you have an appointment… Wow, you do. Okay, so if you would’ve stayed up front then you’d have fresh everything because that’s part of prep.
Now, if you don’t mind… Hannah!” she called out.
And like fire was to her ass, Hannah’s lil’ white ass appeared out of thin air.
“Escort Mr. Kirkland up front for me while I prepare for his appointment,” Eris said.
I wasn’t going to give her a hard time, so I let it go.
All it took was four damn steps, and I was back outside. At least that’s what it felt like in that fucking toy box. I went out to the lot instead.
Gia came outside.
“Hey, Rayzor,” she flirted.
I threw my head back.
“So, we get a few celebrities here and there, but you’re the latest.”
“Oh yeah?” I kept it short.
“I mean, of course you’ll see yourself like that, but you have the city in a chokehold right now. I watched your last fight, and you did the damn thing. I already knew Flow’s ass was gon’ lose.”
“’Preciate the support.”
“So, Mr. Rayzor, or is it fine to call you Courtland? That’s so differ–”
“Rayzor,” I corrected her.
“Why Eris?” She tooted her nose up. “She doesn’t do nothing but work and go home to a house full of kids, and she’s boring.”
“And what is it you do?” I asked.
“I can do whatever you want.” She licked her lips. “What do you do when you’re not in the public eye.”
“Kill bitches.”
She gasped, taking a step back. I wasn’t fucking with her. She could drop to her knees with her mouth wide as open, and I still won’t stick my dick in it.
“Gia, you’re a trifling hoe.” Eris came into view. “You better take your ass back inside before I tell Dr. Smith you be writing yourself pain prescriptions,” Eris announced herself, wearing a scowl on her face. When the fuck she came outside?
Gia clasped her mouth shut.
“Yeah, you think I didn’t know.”
“Girl, whatever. It’s not even that serious.”
Eris stepped in front of her.
“You were just on my dick, though.”
“It’s not about Rayzor. Did you hear what came out of your mouth? You’re thirsty so bad that you thought telling him I had a child would make him fuck with you. I’m still a bad bitch with kids, with my working, boring ass as you claim it.”
I stood in the background watching Eris handling her shit. Gia was scared. Searching around for help but there wasn’t none. She could’ve avoided that by staying the fuck outta my face. I don’t feel bad for it, and if she’s not gone like Eris said, her ass won’t be there long.
“When we get back, yo’ ass better be gone and I’m not talking about on lunch,” I warned.
“What that mean?”
“Remember what I said about bitches,” I reminded her.
She scurried off.
“Yeah,” I mumbled.
Eris rolled her eyes at me before switching off.
“It’s time for your appointment.”
I watched that ass move in them scrubs and followed her.
They properly checked me in and everything and within minutes, I was in the back with Eris. She was putting on protective gear over her scrubs: face masks, gloves, surgical masks and eye protection.
“Take a seat, Mr. Kirkland. We have to do your x-rays first since you’re a first-time patient of the facility.” She had a keyboard, working the screen. It highlighted my name and afterwards, she put it down then covered me with protective gear for the x-ray.
“When’s the last time you’ve seen a dentist?” she made light conversation.
“About five months ago.”
“That’s recent. Why are you back so soon?”
“’Cause I wanted to see you.”
I saw her restrain her smile.
I chuckled while she moved around nervously to start the x-ray procedure. She didn’t have to say shit. I knew she was fucking with how a nigga went through lengths to see her.
An hour later
My appointment was finished. It went just how I knew it would. X- rays used a bit of time but after that, it was smooth. She liked to work with soft R&B in the background. At first, I thought her ass was gone fuck some shit up in my mouth, but she handled business. Got in and out without hiccups.
“You’ve been in this mothafucka working all morning, I’m taking you to lunch,” I told her while she handed me that weak ass goodie bag.
“I can feed myself.”
“There you go telling me what you can fuckin’ do again. If you got time, you ‘bout to eat.” I walked out of her suite, exiting the office and headed back to reception.
“Alright, Mr. Kirkland, your total is…” Hannah typed away on her computer.
“Five- fifty.”
I handed her my card.
“Hannah, after Mr. Kirkland, my calendar is clear. I’m heading to lunch,” Eris told Hannah as she came from the back only in her scrubs. Her hair was in a ponytail, and she only wore gloss. There were small indents in her face from her gear, but it didn’t take away from her beauty.
She headed out before me, and when I was done with my transaction, I caught up to her near my truck. She snapped her head with a loud huff, but I opened that mothafucka.
“I’m surprised you taking a nigga up on the offer.”
“I almost didn’t.” She hopped into the cabin, and I closed the door.
I jogged around and got in. She sat quiet, gazing out the window. I know that shit with Gia fucked her head up. Not knowing the right shit to say at first, I drove in silence.
“Never let a mothafucka get inside your head.”
“I’m good.”
I gently grabbed her hand. Her shoulders locked up from tension. I never wanted to see her like that. Never wanted to put her in that kind of position.
“If I didn’t come out there, would you have taken her offer?”
“What offer?”
“Don’t play, Rayzor. That bitch was throwing her pussy at you.”
“And? I get pussy thrown at me all the time. That hoe can’t even sniff my dick.”
“Yeah. Whatever,” she murmured.
I smirked. “Miss Impulsive checking hoes behind me.”
“Don’t get it twisted. That was about my respect. Not you.”
“You sho’?”
“Positive.”
It was something about that little snappy shit I liked. Not over the top with it. Grounded, stern voice, presence soft, but solid.
“You read my mind because I like Kong’s Chinese. They get so damn busy, and my schedules so packed, I didn’t think I’d have time to make it over here.”
Winking at her. “I got you.”
She went to open the door. “You ain’t opened a door while you’ve been with me, fuck you doing, Eris?”
She took her hands off the door. “Oh, my bad.”
The restaurant wasn’t as packed as she predicted. She could enjoy her meal without having to rush.
