One Week Later
I glanced at the wall clock and noticed I had two minutes before Harlan was due to come over.
I was going to break the news last week, but when he texted and told me he would be out of town, I took that as a way to postpone the news.
He was finally back, and to help myself, I decided to allow Hollis and Johnni to come up with a cute way to tell him.
I had a shirt printed that simply said “special delivery” that I put in a pizza box and put a set of the sonogram pictures along with a baby bottle and a blanket all things Hollis had already bought.
I threatened to cut her off to make her stop shopping.
Between Johnni and Hollis, I felt good about Harlan now, but that didn’t stop my nerves from going crazy.
With unsteady hands, I grabbed the lighter, sparking it against the candles on the table set for two.
This was such a huge milestone in our relationship.
Tonight was the night we would be taking huge strides toward the next level. I felt it.
Once I was done, I moved toward the front door, stopping at the mirror in the foyer to double check my hair and my makeup was still intact. I rubbed my belly, talking to the baby.
“Okay, baby, daddy is on his way. Be good to mommy. I want to keep my food down, okay?” I smiled as if they could actually hear and understand me.
I opened my door and poked my head out to see if I saw him coming down the hallway yet. Once I heard the ding, I quickly stood up straight, closing the door. “Breathe, Mickey, everything is perfect.” And it was.
I waited it out for a few seconds before I pulled the door open, this time to my man’s handsome face. His casual attire of a button down and slacks let me know he’d come here straight from work. I didn’t miss the big ass bag and flowers in his hand either and a takeout bag.
“Hi, baby,” he said in his cool tone as a sly grin appeared on his face. I stepped back, smiling as my arms instinctively lifted, moving around his neck as he walked into me, wrapping his arms around my waist, gifts and all.
“Hi,” I said as I inhaled his scent.
Harlan walked us backwards until we were both fully inside of my condo, so he could shut the door behind us.
“Got damn, Mickey, you smelling good as fuck. I missed you.” We walked backwards until we ended up in the living room where he set his bag down, then moved us toward the kitchen, placing everything else on the counter.
“Of course, baby, and there’s more to this. Come on, let me cater to you tonight.” Harlan palmed a handful of my ass in his hand and took my lips, tonguing me down nastily. I moaned into his mouth, loving the taste and feel of his lips.
Once he turned me loose, I grabbed his hand and led him to the table. Harlan passed me the flowers and I sniffed them.
“Thank you for the flowers, Har. They’re beautiful.” I knew he wouldn’t come empty handed and a vase already filled with water was on the table anticipating the bouquet as I unwrapped it from the plastic, making a mental note to cut and properly store the flowers once we were done tonight.
Harlan didn’t even give me a chance to fully set them up before he was back on me. His hands were moving fast, going up and down the front of my body. I wined into his pelvis, feeling his hard dick against my ass. His mouth found my ear.
“Feed me first, baby. It was a long ass week without you on my mouth.” I gasped when he bit down on my neck roughly while making circles on my clit through my panties. Harlan had me failing at staying focused on my mission right now.
“But I have a surprise for you.”
“Give it to me after I have my fix, baby, please. I’m here all night.” This time when Harlan bit down, he sucked on the same spot, my spot.
I guess there’s always later.
I turned to face him, wrapping my arms around his neck with him bending slightly to lift me, headed back to my bedroom. Our tongues interlocked the whole time until my back hit the bed. He sat up on his knees, pulling my boy shorts down then spreading my legs wide.
Harlan wasted no time, stretching his tongue and flicking it across my clit before he pulled it into his mouth, using his big lips as a suction cup.
I whimpered, instantly feeling the sensation going to my toes.
Harlan was good at making my body feel good.
This was the best part of sex with him. The dick was good, but his mouth had my back cracking.
“Ooh shit, baby, just like that,” I moaned as I ground my hips into his face.
I was close and needed this. Harlan must’ve known too because he inserted two fingers, curving them up against my spot.
I knew what he wanted when he snaked his arm over my lower stomach, pushing down.
My mind immediately went to the baby and now had me scooting back. I had to change positions.
“Put it in, baby,” I whined. I yanked at him, showing the urgency of needing him right now. I said a silent prayer when Harlan looked up at me with a sly smirk.
“Oh you ready for me to knock this pussy out, huh, Mickey?” I used my elbows and moved back more on the bed as Harlan climbed up, stripping out of his clothes in the process.
He reached me and I helped with his pants, getting them down enough to get his hard dick out.
I jacked him a few times before I positioned him at my hole.
We exhaled at the same time. His strokes were slow at first before he put my legs on his shoulders.
“Gotdamn, Mickey, you feel good as hell, baby.” His pace picked up and so did my moans.
Harlan must have been in a good mood because his dick pounded me out.
I was cumming and knew this was the first of many tonight the way he grunted and stroked me right now.
As I rode out my first one, I pulled him closer, clinging to him tightly while I mentally prepared myself to tell him the news after this.
Hours later, I woke up alone in my bed, completely forgetting we had fucked and skipped dinner. I got up, grabbing my robe as I made my way to relieve my bladder and freshen up so I could find Harlan. I was starving now and hoped he was already in the kitchen with the food heated up.
“Baby!” I called out but got no response. I accounted that to him not hearing me since I was now running the water, letting it warm up while I peed.
Once I was done, I made my way out to the living room with Harlan not being there either.
“Harlan,” I called out again, this time laughing nervously. It was the middle of the night. I didn’t think he would leave just like that. I made it to the kitchen, stopping in my tracks when I noticed the pizza box was open but no signs of Harlan.
Panic set in as I made my way to get my phone off the charger while I talked myself down from the ledge that he had dipped out with saying anything. I took a seat on the couch, my left leg bouncing uncomfortably while I scrolled through my phone until I came to his number.
“Shit, Mickey, this wasn’t how this was supposed to go.” I hit his name, praying he answered so we could talk about this, but of course Harlan didn’t. Instead, I got his voicemail and opted out of leaving one. I hit the button again, getting the same result.
An hour later, I was unmoved from my position beyond my hand repeatedly calling Harlan. I lost count of how many times until the voicemail was the first thing that greeted me, but I refused to believe this was happening right now.
Maybe he just needs a minute to process this, Mickey. You needed one, remember.
“Yeah. Maybe that’s it.” A nasty taste formed in my mouth, sending me to the bathroom to throw up. I should have taken that as my sign. After I re-brushed my teeth, my stomach growling violently reminded me I still hadn’t eaten.
I palmed my baby and apologized for being careless while walking back to the kitchen.
“Mommy’s sorry, I’m feeding us now.” I snorted at the pizza box before I moved to the takeout bag on the counter, seeing it was Korean BBQ. I laughed until tears welled up and poured down my face. Through my crying, I heated up the food.
“Okay, so we’re definitely keeping the baby, right?
” Hollis asked as we walked around a baby store at The Shoppes.
I told myself I was just browsing, but everything I saw and picked up somehow ended up in the basket.
There wasn’t anything major since I was still too early to determine the sex of the little being inside of me.
“Yes, for the millionth time since I told y’all the other day.
But still, don’t go crazy, Hollis. Remember no gender has been identified yet.
” She squeaked her excitement as she began grabbing everything like me.
I giggled as I watched her with her wild eyes like a kid in a candy store right now.
She did good for a week and a half of not buying anything for said baby and I feared giving her the green light would have my dining room full before I made it to my second trimester.
Even though I’d told my girls, I still hadn’t told my family.
I knew they wouldn’t trip too hard, but the lack of a father in the picture was holding me up.
I still hadn’t heard from Harlan, even after my several calls and text messages.
I hoped he would come around that night he’d found out I was pregnant, but that had been damn near three weeks ago at this point.
Harlan had gone completely ghost on me. There was no way I was going to tell anyone, not even my girls, no matter how badly I wanted to talk to someone about this fucked up situation.
Yes, I was grown and my parents allowed me to be just that, but the thought of telling them that the father of my baby wouldn’t be involved because he’d disappeared on us already wasn’t a conversation I was prepared to have.
I could be thirty and still wouldn’t want to disappoint them, nor my grandpa, in any way.
