Chapter 12 #2
“Did I say just dinner? I meant dinners. Remember I told you that she cooks for us still. Well, just like…”
Before I could even finish my sentence McKay’s head was already shaking, protesting my words.
“Uh uhn, not at all. BK, we talked about this. Keep this clean and basic and strictly professional. Your mother including me in her meal prep meals she does for you and your brother’s house has nothing to do with me.
Just the one dinner meet up will be fine.
” Once McKay was comfortable on the couch, her legs tucked underneath her as she sat Indian style with the plate in her lap, I took a seat next to her.
I grabbed her legs, untucking them, placing her feet in my lap as I began to give her a massage.
“McKay, I also told you that taking care of your and Peanut’s food needs and wants was a nonnegotiable listed rule of yours.
And I could’ve just sworn you said you wanted someone to meal prep for you.
Anna is offering to do that. Now, I told her you’re on a chocolate kick.
What else would you like me to include? I can tell her you’re loving oodles of noodles and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,” I joked.
“Wait! Absolutely the fuck not. I can’t tell you the last time I’ve even eaten oodles of noodles but I can tell you it won’t be today, tomorrow, and the next day.
Now, that peanut butter and jelly ain’t sounding too bad.
But instead of jelly, use marshmallow fluff, and ooh, replace the bread and peanut butter with peanut butter cookies and spread chocolate sauce on each cookie.
Yeah.” I watched her eyes dance with excitement as she described the cookie sandwich and I chuckled out loud.
“Yo, can you taste it too?” I cracked because I knew she was mentally making plans to make one.
When McKay snapped her head in my direction, she delivered the sexiest snarl as she rolled her eyes. She went to remove her legs from my hold, but I prevented her from moving.
“Yup, and just for trying to be smart, I’m definitely not sharing my shit when I make it either.” McKay stuck her tongue out, playing as she shook her head. She went to remove her legs from my grasp again, but my hold was firm as I laughed at her pressing her lips together.
“That’s fucked up. I was just playing though.
But seriously, back to this list, at least give me a week’s worth of cravings you’re having to start.
It might seem like a lot to you, but to my mother, this is her way of having her catering business she never got to start since motherhood called her first. She enjoys cooking and loves when she gets a new mouth to taste her food.
And I know you enjoyed the other dishes I dropped off that day, so you know she can cook for real. ”
“I don’t—"
I cut her off. “C’mon Mickey, it’s just her way of feeding her grand baby, and since she thinks this is her first, she’s going to go all out.”
“And that’s why I’m shutting it down now. It’s just food right now, then next week she’ll be shopping for baby clothes. I can’t let your people spend money on a baby that’s not yours, BK. We didn’t think this all the way through,” she cried out.
“And you’re thinking too much and too far ahead on this.
Relax, I promise everything will be okay.
You just have to look at whatever my family buys as early baby gifts.
I can’t have your family thinking the daddy’s side ain’t doing shit.
” I shrugged, causing McKay to tilt her head to the side and shoot daggers at me as she pressed her full ass lips together.
“How the hell did I miss that you don’t take shit seriously?
You’re not following the rules, BK,” McKay stressed, this time snatching her legs from me and shifting on the couch, sitting upright and placing her feet on the floor.
She then put her plate of half eaten food on the coffee table before she put her head into her hands.
“This whole plan is about to blow up in our faces. Watch, our people are going to hate us. Well, my daddy is going to kill you off the principle alone for lying and playing in his face.” I waved her off, moving closer as I grabbed her, pulling her face up to look at me.
“I’m no expert on the sensitive nature of pregnancy or anything, but I’m pretty sure you stressing ain’t good for Peanut. McKay, this was my idea. Let me handle the heavy lifting,” I said, placing my hand on her stomach as I referenced the baby. McKay put hers on mine and gave me a small smile.
“I just don’t want them doing too much when we both know this whole thing is—”
“Yeah, yeah, I know, fake. Part of this working is you getting out of the habit of saying that word when it comes to us. To the world, our relationship is real, even if only for the next three months and we have to put on a solid performance to make them not only see it but feel it. That means half of those rules of yours? Gone. I need you to be comfortable under me, as I should be familiar with your body’s response when I touch certain places.
For instance, I need to know what happens when I do this in front of people.
” I leaned into her neck, hooking my hand around it as I did something that had been driving me wild since her scent had flowed into my nasal cavity and planted itself deep into my temporal lobe, making it impossible to forget it.
I inhaled deeply just as McKay gasped and her breathing became low and choppy.
I placed a light kiss just below her ear.
Ooh she smells so fucking good.
I whispered, “Just like that. Now finish feeding Peanut.”
I picked the plate up, but instead of passing it right over, I forked up some of the Korean BBQ beef, bringing it to her mouth. McKay stared at it with the same annoyance she had been giving me for the majority of the time I’d been here before she nodded and accepted the bite.
I took that as her finally falling into us acting like a real couple and not the business one she wanted us to be.
“Fine, but your ass is still not getting any pussy,” she said as she chewed. I smirked but held my comment back.
“Good, so when are we telling your parents?”
McKay
My heart was racing as I knocked on the door.
It had been a long ass time since I’d brought a man home and now, in the words of Burkeley, I was bringing not just my man but my child’s father too.
I still couldn’t believe that in under a week—no, two days—he had me going back on a lot of the rules I’d set in place to keep us both safe.
The only few that remained intact were no sex and no kissing outside of appearances and when deemed necessary by one of us.
But of course, Burkeley did whatever he wanted, like right now.
I felt his body all over mine as he leaned into me, placing a gentle and innocent kiss to my forehead.
I couldn’t lie, my damn eyes closed and I leaned into the quick kiss as my beats per minute seemed to calm.
I hadn’t felt his lips on mine yet, but I enjoyed feeling them in the two spots they seemed to always find now.
My neck and my forehead.
“You’re shaking, McKay. Calm down, girl. They’re your parents.” He chuckled as he muttered more to himself but since we were so close I heard him loud and clear. “I should be the one nervous right now.”
The sound of the locks disengaging had me smoothing my hands down my jacket over my stomach before Burkeley’s hands stopped me mid-swing of the door opening to my mother’s warm and bright face.
“Well, hello my beautiful daughter. I swear if your ass avoided me one more gotdamn day I would’ve forgotten who you look like. Still me I see,” my mom said as she pulled me into the house.
“Girl, you act like it’s been months. It’s only been a couple of weeks.
You’re doing way too much in front of company,” I said as I walked inside with Burkeley helping me take off my jacket, making my mom put her bright eyes on him as his smile seemed to grow bigger.
My mom put her hand on her chest, gawking while I rolled my eyes at her dramatic antics and hung my jacket on the coat rack, then reached for Burkeley’s as he blushed from Kat’s reaction to him.
“Oh my. I know you said you were bringing this mystery man, but Mickey, he’s handsome.”
My dad cleared his throat, gaining everyone’s attention as he came into the foyer sporting his infamous scowl.
“Kat, I know good and damn well the only man you better be calling handsome is me and yo’ daddy.
How you doing, young man? I’m Chris and this is my wife Kat.
It’s nice to formally meet you. I feel like my baby’s been hiding you for far too long.
” He extended his hand to Burkeley who accepted it and shook, while my mom waved him off, dragging me away from Burkeley.
“Mama, Dad, this is Burkeley,” I said as I grabbed the bag with the surprise for their baby announcement.
“It’s nice to meet you too, Dr. Bailey, and trust me, you’re not the only people who feel this way about our relationship.
My parents just said the same thing about McKay.
I hope you’re a fan of Black Ops.” He then presented the bottle of liquor I told him was a bad idea considering I couldn’t drink, but of course Burkeley laughed in my face and said it wasn’t for me.
“Chris, please. And you’re my kind of guy, this is perfect. Let’s crack this open with dinner.”
“Speaking of, I hope it’s ready because I am starving,” I said, eager to get this secret out now that I was here. Even though my pudge was still small, I still felt it necessary to suck my stomach in.
“Starving is a new word for you, but yes, it’s ready. Burkeley, I hope you enjoy seafood. My daughter called and requested catfish for dinner.” He chuckled as we all walked to the dining room with Burkeley’s hand dangerously close to the top of my ass on my lower back.
