Chapter 16
SIXTEEN
“Why haven’t you asked her yet?” Quintus asks as soon as our call connects.
“How do you know I haven’t?” I ask, even though he’s right.
“Because trust me, if you had, my kyau would have been screaming and crying, excited. She hasn’t; so you haven’t. What are you waiting on?”
“I just haven’t found the right moment. This has to be perfect for my baby.”
“It’s been four days. You come back Tuesday. You don’t have much time left.”
“I know,” I admit. “We’ve done some dope shit too. We got massages, went to this luau dinner where they danced with fire and last night took a boat out for whale watching.”
“Whale watching?” he questions, sounding like I did when Kyrah first mentioned it.
“Yeah. Apparently, winter is whale season. They come out at the end of November, beginning of December. We went yesterday afternoon and spotted two big ass humpback whales. She loved it, and I can’t lie, it was crazy. I liked it too. I was going to do it then but… I don’t know. It wasn’t right.”
“I feel you. I hate that I never did the whole proposal thing. I might have said some shit that night we got married but neither of us remember and I’m sure it wasn’t the proposal she deserved,” he says.
It took him a minute but he finally told me the truth about him and Sis’s drunken wedding night.
“Don’t rush it. When it’s right, you’ll know. ”
“I hope so. She’s not coming back without my ring and a promise to carry my name. I’m ready for everything with her.”
“Good luck.”
“Thanks. I’ll get at you when we get back.”
“Bet. Love you, bruh.”
“Love you too.”
I end the call then walk back into the suite.
For the past few nights, we’ve eaten at one of the resort’s restaurants but tonight we’re staying in because we have a super early start in the morning.
She heard about some sunrise picnic on a dormant volcano.
It’s popular and our suite assistant also recommended it.
“Quintus?” she asks.
“Yeah. How you know?”
“I was talking to Reya. She was still up, looking at ideas for the baby’s room. I’m about to order. You know what you want?”
“That steak and curry lobster I had the other night at that Duo place was good. I can eat that again.”
“That lobster was good. You want that same sauce on your steak?” she asks.
“Yeah, baby. That’s fine. What you getting?”
“I’m going to try the sesame I didn’t have time to think about children. Plus, until Niya, none of my besties had kids. They weren’t a part of our lives, which made it even easier to not think about them. But that’s changed and that has a lot to do with you.”
“I see my whole life with you, baby. Everything: marriage, children, hell, even a dog. I want all that shit.”
“That sounds like forever,” she says with a little laugh.
“That’s what I want. Forever with you.”
“Forever starts with a ring and promises.”
“What kind of ring?” I ask.
As I await her answer, I realize the perfect moment to ask has legit been every one we’ve already spent together. I love this girl and want to marry her. No matter when or how I ask, as long as she says yes, it’ll be perfect. Forever isn’t the proposal; it’s the life we will have together.
“Hmm. I love amethysts, and diamonds of course. I’d definitely want both gemstones. An elegant ring that makes a statement of luxury without screaming it.”
“Like a princess-cut amethyst platinum ring with diamonds, maybe three karats?” I say, describing the ring I’ve had on my person this entire trip.
“Yeah,” she says with raised eyebrows. “Like that.”
“Let me see what I can do,” I say, then rise.
Her eyes stare into mine then she tilts her head and stares deeper. When I actually step out of the tub, I see when things start to register.
“Shiro!” she exclaims as I grab the robe from the small hook on the wall. “Shiro! Don’t play about this.”
“Wait right here. I need to check something,” I say, then rush out of the bathroom.
Before my call to Quintus, I took the ring out of my pocket and slid it into the side pocket of my duffle.
So I head to the closet and grab it. When I walk out, she’s standing right there, wrapped in the other robe and staring again.
“What’s in your hand?” she asks in a shaky tone.
“Baby, I’ve been carrying this box with me every day and night of this trip, waiting for the perfect time to do this,” I begin and step closer to her.
“Then I realized every time you’re near me is perfect.
I’ve been waiting too long for the moment that has been here all along.
Kyrah, I love you. I really love you. I want everything with you and I want it right now.
No more waiting.” After opening the ring box, I pull it out then reach for her hand.
Her eyes get big as hell at the sight of the ring and her pretty lips part. “Marry me, baby.”
With her free hand, she covers her mouth and sighs, “Shiro.”
“Is that a yes, baby?” I ask and she nods first.
“Yes,” she finally says after dropping her hand. “You know I will!”
After making me the happiest man alive, she wraps her arms around my neck and kisses me with so much passion and love. Within seconds, our robes are off and we’re on the bed. She straddles my waist then her lips are back on mine. As we kiss, she holds my dick as she eases down.
“Damn, baby,” I groan on fucking contact.
“I can’t stop admiring this,” Kyrah gushes as she stares at her ring. “As soon as I walk in the door, I’ve been putting it on.”
“I’m ready for you to never take it off,” I say.
“Tomorrow. Everyone will know then and this is never coming off my finger. It’s perfect.
You did an amazing job. I love it and I love you,” she says before placing her hands on my face.
“I still can’t believe this and can’t wait to marry you.
” Before I can say anything, her lips are on mine and she’s kissing me nastily as hell.
“Baby, I think this ring got you possessed. You been all over me since you got it,” I joke, but only a little. She has been freaky as shit since I proposed but I’m not complaining, at all.
“There’s something about being a fiancée to the right man, the one I’m supposed to be with. I just want to feel you all the damn time.”
“A nigga not complaining. Trust,” I admit.
“So how are you going to tell your brothers?” she asks, smiling.
“I’m just going to tell them you said yes.”
“That’s it?” she sighs.
“That’s all they need to know, baby. They don’t need anything extra.”
