Chapter 4
Jenna felt the cold steel of the gun at the back of her neck while she whispered into Kyle’s ear. Too enthralled with Kyle, she hadn’t even heard the door open. The strangers hand came around and cupped her breast, his fingers squeezing her still erect nipple till she yelped in pain.
She was frozen by fear and couldn’t even scream, her heart pounding as if it were going to burst out of her chest. She stared into Kyle’s eyes.
All he did was stare back at her. She wondered why Kyle was suddenly not the guy she thought he would have been in a crisis situation.
He seemed to be as frozen in fear as she was, not lifting a finger to help them out of this obviously bad situation.
She wasn’t going to die like this. No, not like this.
The strangers breath was hot as he whispered in her ear, “We’re gonna have fun with you tonight, princess.”
He grabbed her around the waist and began to pull her from the car. She grabbed frantically for Kyle, finally finding her voice to scream for help. That was when she noticed another guy, the shadow creeping up just as he flung the passenger door open and hit Kyle over the head.
Jenna kicked frantically as he pulled her from the SUV.
He was strong, much stronger than her. But, she was going to fight.
No one was going to hurt her. She flung her head back as hard as she could and hit his nose.
She heard a crack and he dropped her from his hold, grabbing his now bleeding nose.
He stumbled back a few paces, his blood seeping down his chin.
“You fuckin bitch, you broke my God damn nose! We were gonna play nice with you. Now, you’re gonna pay for this.”
She scrambled on the ground and made it back to the open door.
Kyle was slumped to the side. She could see the blood dripping from the wound above his right eye.
Leaning in, she could hear his raspy breath.
They hadn’t killed him. She turned back toward the lot.
Every car seemed to have disappeared in the few minutes she had been unaware of her surroundings. Where had everyone gone so fast?
She knew tonight was going to be bad, felt it in the very depths of her soul. Yet, she chose to ignore it. Bad things always seemed to happen when she ignored her instincts.
One of the men grabbed her around the waist, pulling her from the car once more. She got her hand under the driver’s side seat and grabbed for Kyle’s gun.
“She’s got a gun.” She heard a man yell, but wasn’t sure where it came from. Suddenly, she felt someone rush her, slamming into her from the side.
Jenna silently prayed that the gun was loaded and that she knew how to use it.
She had never learned how to shoot it. She and her attacker hit the ground with a painful thud, dislodging her from her captor’s grasp, but allowing the other abductor to land on top of her.
She pushed away, kicking the second man in the chest.
She was fighting with nothing more than basic instinct. What did they call it, fight or flight? Well, she was going to fight.
She heard him gasp and felt a moment of satisfaction. She scrambled to her feet, her legs shaky, like bearing her weight was too much.
She held the gun out in front of her with two hands, her entire body now shaking. “I’m… I’m not afraid to use this,” she stated, her voice shakier than the rest of her extremities. But, she meant it. She would shoot anyone that came near her.
The guy with the longer hair wearing a long, black sweatshirt and jeans looked at her. He slowly put his hands up while picking himself up off the ground. The blood from his broken nose had dried on his face making him look even more menacing, if that were even possible.
“Hey, we were just tryin’ to scare you. You don’t want to shoot anyone with that thing.” He was slowly moving toward her, his hands out in front of him. “My friend and I were just trying to scare you.” His head motioned to the man getting up off the ground.
Jenna backed up, waving the gun back and forth between the two men that were slowly making their way toward her.
The realization that she was naked hit her.
She released one hand from the gun and covered her breasts, keeping the gun pointed at the men.
Modesty had never been a trait she thought she had.
She also never thought she would be pointing a loaded gun at two men while she was naked either.
“You certainly didn’t seem like you were kidding.”
The short haired man spoke, “Oh, but we were, we’re friends of your boyfriend.” His voice almost seemed too calm for the situation. “He said you’d like it.”
“You’re friends of Kyle’s?” She continued her slow move away from the men, closer to the woods. Probably not the best strategic move she had ever made. “How do I know that? How do I know you’re his friends?”
“We talked to Kyle...just a few hours ago. He told us to come here, we just—” His sentence was cut off as Jenna tripped over a log in her path while blindly backing up.
The gun fell from her hand and the two men lunged forward. Jenna rolled to the side and scrambled up, running as fast as her feet would move into the dark woods. She didn’t dare look back, not knowing whether they followed her or not.
She stopped a ways into the woods and leaned against a tree. Peering around, she strained her eyes to see in the near pitch blackness. Her heart was racing and her body shook uncontrollably from fear. Had the men followed her this far into the woods? Or, had they given up and left her here?
She heard leaves rustling and wondered if it was them. She wasn’t really sure how long she had run or how far, only that she couldn’t hear the sounds of anything but the woods. Her body was shaking from the cold September air, she decided. She had to calm herself.
“We gotta fuckin’ find her.” Her heart stopped at the sound of their voices.
They were close enough for her to hear them clearly.
She held her breath and slowly crouched down against the tree, careful to not make a sound.
She hoped they would be looking for her at eye level and have as much trouble seeing as she was.
Even though her eyes had adjusted to the pitch black woods, all she could make out were the shadows of two men slowly moving in her direction.
They stopped mere feet from where she sat.
She had the sudden urge to pee, just like when she was a child and played hide and seek.
Jenna kept her breathing slow and tried to silently talk her body into not shaking.
She remembered what had happened the last time two men had tried to corner and rape her.
She had been sixteen, those boys hadn’t walked out of the woods then.
Not something she ever thought about, but she would protect herself anyway she had to.
“She’s gotta be around here, she can’t run that fast, I bet she found herself a little hiding spot.” Jenna wasn’t sure which one spoke, she just pleaded that they didn’t see her. Silver beamed in the sliver of light surrounding them. One of them carried the gun she had dropped.
She knew at that moment these two men were most definitely not friends of Kyle’s. In fact, she wondered if Kyle was even alive.
“We’ll split up, you look that way and I’ll look over here. We have to fucking find her before she’s able to make it back.”
Jenna watched as the shadows separated into the woods; one going to her right and one going to her left.
Her head rested on her knees, her long hair almost falling to her feet.
She tried to convince herself not to break down into tears.
Her plan was to go back to Kyle, if he was still there, still alive.
She had to make it back as quick as she could.
She had to tell someone what had happened, and then go straight to the police.
After waiting for what seemed like forever, she was positive they were gone. Jenna slowly stood up and a hand came around from the back of the tree, covering her mouth. Her panic was instant.
“Hello, sweet thing, looks like I found you first.” His mouth was so close to her ear, she could feel his hot breath and smell the slight hint of alcohol.
The dark stranger moved in front of her and she could see his features in the light. He stood about six feet tall and seemed to have shoulder length hair that was pulled back away from his face. In any other circumstances, he would have been attractive.
“I’m gonna make you scream for breaking my nose, bitch.” His voice was no more than a whisper, but it struck fear in her down to her soul.
He stood in front of her, her still naked body pinned against the hard bark of the tree. Jenna tried to struggle, knowing it was her only hope. She knew at that moment that the man in front of her was going to rape her and more than likely kill her.
“You like to be watched? Too bad no one’s around to see what I’m gonna do to you.” He pressed his body against hers, his other hand cupping her sex. “I’m gonna fuck you, tear into that pussy, come in you, turn you over and fuck you in the ass.”
“I bet you’re still wet, aren’t you? Fuckin’ whore.” His finger slid in between the lips of her sex. “You are still wet. You want me to fuck you, don’t you?”
He backed up and Jenna heard his hands fumbling with the zipper of his pants. She knew she only had moments before he did exactly as he described to her. His slight movement gave her enough room to bring her knee up and make contact with his balls.
She scrambled to her left, trying to run, when he grabbed her by the hair, yanking her back toward him. She let out an ear piercing scream and yelled for help.
“Kyle!” she screamed into the darkness. “Help!” Her composure was breaking and the tears she had been holding back began to flow.
“Scream for your boyfriend all you like, he’s not gonna hear you. We made sure of that.”
It was then that she realized this attacker didn’t carry the gun she had dropped, nor did he have any other weapons aside from his obvious size advantage over her. She had to fight with everything she had. It would be her only hope of getting out of this situation alive.
She tried to recall all the self-defense tactics she had ever read about, seen, or learned in all her years. Her only weapon was herself. No one was going to come to her rescue, no knight in shining armor was going to ride up on his white horse and take out her assailant for her.
She struggled and screamed some more, kicking and clawing at his face. If she was going to die, she would at least have his skin under her fingernails. In TV shows, the perpetrator is always caught when DNA is extracted from under fingernails. A plus, defensive wounds to match.
This only made him angrier. Jenna felt the back of his hand slam into her cheekbone.
The pain felt like the side of her face had exploded.
He obviously wasn’t a subscriber to the never hit a woman philosophy.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t a fighter. She had never even been in a school yard tussle.
She was fighting based on instinct and what she had seen on TV.
Yet, here she was, naked and fighting for her life. At least she was only fighting one of them.
“I got her over here,” her attacker yelled into the woods, loosening his grip.
Luck was obviously not on her side. There was no way in hell she could take on two men; she was barely defending herself against the one.
As soon as she recovered from the shock of the blow, she used his confidence to take action.
Quickly wiggling herself from his already slackened grip, she took off in a dead sprint.
She knew she had two problems. Well, two additional problems. One, she was turned around in the woods and didn’t know which way was back to the truck.
And, two, she didn’t know where in the woods the other guy was.
She figured he couldn’t be that far away, but hoped, by some shred of luck, she didn’t run directly into the guy.
Two gunshots rang out and she froze, wondering if she had been shot, thinking she may not have felt it due to shock.
She knew it was a stupid thought, but since she had never been shot, she stopped to check.
Her hands quickly roamed her body. Nothing.
She hadn’t been the target of the gun shots.
Two more shots rang out. She had to keep running.
Jenna ran forward, away from the gunfire, she hoped. Relief sprang from her as she saw the parking area come into view, thankful that she still had some sort of luck on her side.
The sudden feeling of hope set in.
She picked up her pace and yelled for Kyle. She saw the truck, but there was no movement, just the dim illumination from the interior light. All of the other cars had left, only Kyle’s truck and a black van remained.
