13. You’re never Alone
You’re never Alone
***
I couldn’t slip past the golden doors before they closed, so what happens beyond remains unknown. Thanks to my magic, I’ve gone this long without being noticed, and the more I follow her, the more involved we become. Despite the fay who now occupies Rebecca’s office with Her, and his unknown gifts.
Alex isn’t an ordinary fay. In fact, his demeanor twists the souls of others when he is around.
Females sing praises about how he is gifted in pleasure, tripping amongst themselves for a chance at getting his attention, clawing at one another in hopes of receiving his cock, and even conspiring to kill for him.
I’ve lost plenty of companions and friends from the simple gaze he swings their way.
Those who have gotten close to him perish without a trace.
Males are equally shameful, eager to challenge the fay known for using mystical abilities and being practically unbeatable, trying to gain his favor or be the one taking him down.
Neither have transpired yet. There are even mentions of them wanting his cock as well, though my time studying him leads me to believe he prefers the company of females.
Once he retires to his room for the night, one can never really know .
Rubbing a hand down my face, I’m restless because Kyra, my future eternal, was a naughty girl this morning.
She snuck out early without informing me and got herself into quite the altercation.
Under the assumption she was up training, I had begun cleaning her room before realizing my bond hates waking up early.
Thus, I arrived just in time to witness both Gina and Paige’s defeat.
Two females who have made it their mission to find the most valuable guys in hopes of being impaled into oblivion.
Paige’s words–not mine. And from the sounds of it, Gina found her thrust buddy.
Annoyed regardless, I heard the hatred flowing from their mouths, confused on whom Ethan has been thrusting into.
Which isn’t Kyra. The curvy female with temptress eyes and a full body seen leaving his room during the moon’s peak can’t hold a spell against my future love. Someone I’ll be looking into next.
I had raced down the halls ready to join her in battle.
My abilities were jolting from hearing Kyra’s war cry, but Mr. Above Average decided to intervene, destroying Gina’s clone.
I was damn near caught in his galaxy rip, but it will take so much more to defeat me.
Not long after, Alex demanded they leave before insisting on Kyra going into the office.
He had gotten too close to her, using his aura, surrounding them in a shield-like barrier and making her swoon.
Removing his head would have been easy if not for that fucking shield.
Nonetheless, I was sure my presence was known the way his devious leer found mine after she strutted towards the office, and he kept his energy around her.
But I was wrong, and everything appeared normal, until we simultaneously approached the door, him and me.
His pace halted a hair shy from breaching the threshold, ears perked, and listening attentively to our surroundings.
Every drop of blood within me froze as we were inches apart, and my lungs fought to hold a single breath.
He peered straight through me, and a dark presence lingered over his features.
Fear trembled my own, accompanied by thoughts of ending Alex once more.
Eventually he yielded, closing Rebecca’s door, leaving me outside to wonder.
Now I press an ear against it, energy sparking between my fingers hearing the two of them converse. About what–I don’t know–but being alone with him may ruin all our plans. And that shit’s not happening.
Another voice joins inside, and my fists ball tightly until the blood no longer flourishes over my knuckles. I reach for the knob and anger thrashes around my aura. Something is keeping the doors in place and me out. Who the fuck is in there?
Light sweeps beneath the thin crack– gold– relinquishing an answer of who the other voice is– Ethan –following a glowing black gleam.
Kyra yells, “What the hell was that?” And I gather an abundance of light, condensing and morphing it into one hell of a Warhammer.
The energy surge is so intense I’m taken out of my cloaking ability and am now bare for everyone’s viewing.
If now is the time for me to rid the world of them, then by the Gods, I’ll show no mercy.
My arms swing high, flexing each muscle sculpted to wield this disastrous weapon. Preparing to strike down Rebecca’s precious door, I pause as the knob jiggles. Shit. Not sure who will walk out, I disperse the weapon and regain control over my sporadic emotions before giving away my edge.
She appears at the entrance, and the hall’s light caresses her mesmeric features, causing my heart to skyrocket and flip from the mere sight of her.
Fuck that was close. Kyra huffs and strolls past, unaware that I’m still here now that my ability is back in place, and once again, I’m invisible.
She is safe, and I plan on doing everything to keep it that way.
I’ve already placed a ward around her room that keeps all Elders from entering.
A plan I set in motion after catching Holland meddling about.
She races down the halls and out the building with me hot on her trail.
Hemera, now the sun’s Goddess, has risen and bathed our Academy in a beautiful glow.
I battle these formidable urges not to stare at her in those well-tailored tights.
Once she is officially mine and ruling over these lands, I’ll have time to indulge myself.
Until then, this ache of not touching her shall become my fuel.
Fumbling to hold her phone, she sends messages to whomever is on the receiving end. Though I’m not sure who she texts, our plan is simple, return to her room and finish enjoying the day with just us two. That is until the flank of dragons pulls her focus.
She whispers, “You have got to be shitting me.” Fuck, this isn’t good.
There is something about these particular shifters that no one here knows. A secret sworn only to their kind. Fortunately for me, after a few weeks of gathering intel, that secret extends to another branch. One I’ll use when the time is right.
Kyra ceases her pace, staring high, and her eyes widen in fright. My aura has reached well below its safe point, using it all night for her protection, so I need her to keep moving before one of them notices. But time has dwindled for such an option as a dragon descends with haste.
Dust explodes around us, quacking the compacted earth with forceful trembles, reducing the soil to a soft sand-like texture, and I draw towards Kyra ready to defend her.
As the Goddess of luck would have it, the largest and most fearsome beast has now become a problem, and I can only ponder what brought us such horrible luck.
Perhaps her beauty rivals the Goddess, and she demands penance.
This earthly fog settles, and Kyra removes the hair shrouding her view. My fingers twitch, wanting to tuck that escaping tendril behind her ear, not wanting a single strand hiding her divine perfection , but seeing her features warp into fright redirects my attention.
Shielded by silver scales, enormous, mountain-like spikes flow thickly down its gigantic back, ending at its tail. Despite it being near the field’s center, its size leaves nothing for comparison.
With no room to run, she retreats, pressing her back upon the wall as another text pings her phone. Sudden movement alerts the beast like a loud siren, and it turns, charging towards us as I sprint before her to be used as a shield.
My aura craves to command the shadows. Another natural energy I’m able to wield, but I hold off for now. The dragon stalks forward, dragging its massive frame along the ground, and whatever magic I have left rushes into my palms, objecting to my plans.
“Please don’t eat me,” Kyra whimpers, and it stops shy from colliding with me as if responding to her command. Star-kissed, green eyes peer from its unnatural height, boring into my soul and burning at what remains of my aura.
Blood begins boiling beneath my skin, heating me from the inside as I struggle to inhale. If I didn’t know any better, I would think this dragon knows of my presence. Fuck.
It blows a dense fog, freeing me from its binds, and I step beneath the remaining trees’ shadows. We both may perish in a battle, but her life is worth much more than anyone here can fathom.
After another blow from its nose, the fog disperses, revealing its head placed upon the ground and dangerously close to Kyra, searching her over for something unknown. She reaches for her phone, and the silver scales coating it vibrate from a murderous rumble, warning her of such actions.
Her body grows rigid, and she removes her hand from the pocket containing her phone.
She wears fear like a well-placed mask, as though viewing this beast isn’t her first encounter.
But even I can tell it’s only a matter of time before she cracks.
Pleased with her actions, the dragon turns around, knocking away the trees concealing me, and nods at the highest point on its back.
“You want me to get on?” Kyra asks, confused but intrigued. Her brows pinch together as she places a hand atop its scales, each one as big as her torso.
Students caught in the radius of its landing stare in disbelief at what lies a few feet away. To my surprise, the ignorant bastards begin recording, cheering and raving for her demise.
“Kill her!” one shout s
“Go on, give us a show. Kill the mortal bitch!” another yells. Two lives that will no longer tarnish Rebirth’s halls after tonight.
With a random action, this titan of a beast lifts its back leg, flinging Kyra high and forcing her upon its back.
I race towards it, gripping one of its scales, and before I’m able to lift myself up, a disastrous screech spreads over the yard, shattering phones and rattling my brain with excruciating pain.
Discomfort spans quickly, and I release my hold, placing both hands over my ears as its wings stretch outwards and take to the sky.
On my knees with blurry vision, my muscles twitch, and an acidic taste coats my tongue.
I want to vomit as my fingers grip the soil, waiting for this to pass.
An echo of sounds batter against bones and organs.
Thankfully, I am able to track what direction they’re headed before disappearing amongst the clouds.
I’ll be there soon. Wait for me.
