Chapter 1 Reborn That Same Day
I was reborn.
I came back on the very day my husband was diagnosed with Azoospermia.
Just like in my last life, he held the report, covered his face, and cried until he could barely stand. He said he had let me down. He said he could not let me be a complete woman.
In my last life, I comforted him.
I told him I did not care whether he could have children. I only wanted to spend this life with him, the two of us together.
That same night, Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law showed up at our door with bags and bundles.
Mother-in-Law knelt in front of me.
She said the Chen family could not be left without an heir.
I was lost. "But Chen Nan has Azoospermia. He cannot father a child."
Mother-in-Law grabbed my hands, her voice shaking with heat. "Chen Nan's thing cannot be used. Father-in-Law's can. He is still strong. Let him do Seed Borrowing for you."
I yanked my hands back, my voice trembling. "Mother-in-Law, what are you saying?"
"I do not want this either." Mother-in-Law covered her face and cried. "Chen Nan is still young, and his career is rising. If word of his Azoospermia gets out, will people not laugh at him?"
"Let Father-in-Law do Seed Borrowing and give you a child. Outsiders will not even know if the baby is a younger brother or a son. Take pity on our Chen family and say yes!"
I kept backing away, shaking my head.
"Mother-in-Law, this is insane. No. I am Chen Nan's wife. How could I do that with his own father?"
"Besides, if we cannot have a child, it is fine. We can adopt from an orphanage. That is the same."
I even turned and pulled Chen Nan over, telling him to stop Mother-in-Law's crazy idea at once.
Chen Nan patted the back of my hand and told me to go back to the room first. He would talk his mother around.
After that, Mother-in-Law really did not bring up Seed Borrowing again.
She even acted as if guilt had gotten to her. Every night before I slept, she heated a cup of milk for me and told me to drink it. She said I worked too hard, and warm milk before bed would help me sleep.
After I drank the hot milk, I did fall asleep fast.
Only, every morning when I woke, there were bruises on my body.
I asked Chen Nan, shyly, if those were his doing.
He stared at the bruises, turned his face away, and admitted it, looking embarrassed.
Two months later, I found out I was pregnant.
At the time, I still thought it was a medical miracle.
Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law treated that hard-won child as even more precious than Chen Nan did.
I praised them to everyone I met. The disgust I had felt toward Mother-in-Law faded away.
Until the night I came home from the hospital after giving birth to our son. Chen Nan wrapped his own hands around my neck. Only then did I learn that my son was Father-in-Law's seed.
The hot milk Mother-in-Law brought me every night had sleeping pills in it.
The bruises I saw when I woke in the morning had never been Chen Nan's work at all.
