Chapter 16 The Eyebrow Razor
After she came in, she locked the door from the inside.
I stared at her in terror.
"Mom, what's wrong? Why did you lock the door?"
She ignored me. Right in front of me, she yanked open a few buttons of her top.
I was still confused.
Then she pulled off her underwear, threw it at my face, and started cursing me.
"You vixen! You seduced my husband! You really think my husband would want you? You dry, skinny, stinking woman!"
I was forced to look at her bare body.
I turned my face away on instinct.
She seemed to think I was looking down on her, and that made her even angrier. She sat down right in front of me and started tearing at my clothes.
She had worked year-round and she was strong. I almost couldn't push her off.
She was about to succeed. I screamed in fright.
"Dad! Help! Mom is going to kill me!"
Luckily our door wasn't soundproof.
Father-in-Law heard my cry for help and ran over at once, pounding on the door.
"You old hag! What are you doing to Shi Shi? If anything happens to the child in Shi Shi's belly, I'll kill you!"
Father-in-Law's voice was fierce.
Mother-in-Law had always seemed afraid of him. After he roared like that, she looked even more terrified.
She let go of me and stood there at a loss, not daring to open the door.
I seized the chance and got ready to run over and open it.
But Mother-in-Law shoved me to the floor. Then she turned and grabbed the Eyebrow Razor from my dressing table.
I thought she was going to slash my face. I raised my hands to block on instinct.
But the pain I imagined never came.
I slowly lowered my arms. Then I saw a terrifying scene.
Mother-in-Law was holding my Eyebrow Razor, slashing wildly across her own chest.
I watched blood seep from her chest. I was so shocked my mouth wouldn't close.
Father-in-Law couldn't hear what was happening inside. He seemed to think Mother-in-Law had really killed me. He kicked the door open.
By the time he came in, Mother-in-Law had already stuffed the Eyebrow Razor into my hand. She threw herself into Father-in-Law's arms and cried.
"Old man, Shi Shi used an Eyebrow Razor to slash my chest to pieces. She wanted to kill me. Quick, help me call the police and send her to prison."
Mother-in-Law's madness scared me.
Father-in-Law looked down at her chest and pushed her away in disgust.
"What nonsense are you talking? Shi Shi is supposed to carry on the Chen family line. If I send her to prison, are you going to give birth for me, you old thing?"
Mother-in-Law dropped to the floor. She stared in disbelief as Father-in-Law helped me up and checked me over for injuries.
"I'm the wife you've been married to for decades!" she shouted at him.
Father-in-Law acted like he hadn't heard. He helped me out of the room.
I sat in the living room, still shaken.
Then he turned and went back into my room.
I thought he was going to check Mother-in-Law's wounds. I didn't expect him to beat her instead.
I listened to Mother-in-Law howling from inside the room.
I stood up, walked to the doorway, and called to Father-in-Law.
"Dad, I want to go out for a walk. I'll come back later tonight."
Father-in-Law spoke to me kindly.
"Alright, go ahead. Do you have money on you? Dad will transfer you some."
I said I didn't need it, but he transferred it anyway.
I took it with a clear conscience.
After all, his money had all been secretly transferred to him by Chen Nan behind my back.
