Chapter 18 News At The Station
When I arrived at the police station, I was told that last night Father-in-Law had been bitten through the carotid artery by Mother-in-Law and had bled to death. Mother-in-Law had also killed herself out of guilt. She jumped this morning and died after rescue failed.
My whole body went weak. I collapsed onto the floor.
The officers hurriedly helped me up, told me to accept their condolences, and asked if I could get in touch with my husband.
"Your husband's phone isn't being answered, so we had to contact you. Can you tell us why you weren't home last night?"

"Father-in-Law didn't believe her, so he scolded her. After the two of them started fighting, I got scared. I told Father-in-Law I wanted to go out and hide. Then Father-in-Law even transferred me some money and told me to stay at a hotel."
"But... you said Mother-in-Law killed Father-in-Law. Could this be a misunderstanding? Father-in-Law has been beating Mother-in-Law all these years. Mother-in-Law is terrified of him. She shouldn't have dared to kill him..."
After I said that, the officers seemed to have a clear picture.
They had a female officer take me to a room. After they calmed me down, they had me call my husband.
I called Chen Nan several times before he picked up.
When I told him, choking, that Mother-in-Law had killed Father-in-Law, he was so frightened he said "impossible" several times. Then he hung up in a rush and hurried to the police station.
